Where are the spiritual sequels to Max Payne 3 on the current generation?

Gritty crime. Amazing gunplay. Quality production. The closest thing on the horizon is Remedy's Quantum Break, and that's basically the original daddy back on the scene. But in terms of the last generation's best shooter, where is this generation's third person badass action game? I haven't really played any third person shooters that were as addicting and had as amazing feedback as Max Payne 3.

Like I mentioned, Quantum Break is the closest thing, but is there anything else?

<-- is the most important one given... Remedy.

I can't say I really liked Max Payne 3 from what I played... Stranglehold was quite fun. Im not sure many games will try and emulate it, need to be open-world etc

Somebody has to beat Rockstar at their game. MP3 was so damn good, I really miss it.

except those long ass unskippable cut scenes

The OP asks for spiritual sequels to May Payne 3, Remedy made the first two and their new game is all about wicked time stuff, so I think Quantum Break as an evolution of May Payne is the most important game
Max Payne 3 doesn't really feel like Max Payne 1 or 2 though.

All I can think of is this little gem from the makers of The Specialist Mod for Half Life:

Double Action: Boogaloo!

Not the same, I know, but it's a shit ton of fun. Multiplayer only though. There has only ever been one good Max Payne clone...

...and that was Max Payne 3. ;)

I don't think there's anything quite like MP3 on the horizon. Which is sad, because that game was awesome the first time through. R* could release a lazy remaster with the ability to skip cutscenes and I'd be in day one at full price.

I hate to admit it, but I'm actually with you there. I still replay it occasionally to this day, despite the long ass cutscenes. There's just nothing else out there that feels like it.
