Would you still be on GAF if there were no console wars?

Would the forum be better off?

Yes. Console wars are the worst. We could have much better and deeper discussion about so many gaming topics without idiots derailing threads.
Sure, but come on, you guys love high post counts, the console war threads are SUPER post heavy. All the fighting over tech that doesn't exists, or it does exists but it doesn't work remotely how the person is mythically ranting about how it "works".

You're welcome! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you for offering to help! As an AI language model, I don't have personal needs or preferences, but I'm here to answer any questions or discuss any topics you might have on your mind. So feel free to ask me anything you like!

Any information regarding our recent vapor canopy why the post reset hijackers added 1000 years to our history?

I'm sorry, but I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. Could you please provide more context or information about the "vapor canopy" and the "post-reset hijackers"? This will help me better understand your question and provide a more accurate response.

Of course. I registered back in the day for Switch rumours and news and all the tech talk surrounding it.

Not really. But perhaps you can learn Maiden Voyage Maiden Voyage some bedside manners.

I'm sorry if my previous responses came across as lacking in bedside manners. As an AI language model, I don't have emotions or personal biases, but I'm programmed to be helpful and respectful to all users. If there's anything specific you'd like me to improve upon, please let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate your needs.

Regarding "Maiden Voyage", it's a jazz album by Herbie Hancock released in 1965. It's considered a classic and influential album in the jazz genre. Is there anything else you'd like to know about it?

That's more or less Maiden Voyage Maiden Voyage told me in a slurring way while pretending to make coffee before leaving me to "get some smokes"

It's the equivalent of watching school kids fight on a bus ..the grown up, parent of three part of me thinks they should stop but the "still-thinks-like-a-teenager", dominant part of my brain gets a kick out of some of the banter.

It's when it steps over the line into personal attacks or comparing electronic plastic boxes to cancer or proper important stuff that I think it's taken too far.

We all love this past time but I think some of the worst offenders in The War really need to re-evaluate their priorities.

I think you got the wrong idea. Although the console war debates are the biggest, in the gaming community there were always other type of wars too hardware or software: StarCraft - Warcraft vs Command and Conquer, Quake 3 vs Unreal Tournament, ATI vs Nvidia, Mario vs Sonic... CRT vs flat panels. Simply, some people can't give up on the idea that their opinion and decision is always the best (in life too).

Wait, you think I'm here for console wars instead of just, ya know, being able to discuss video games on a forum?

Console Wars are the main reason this place (and all video game forums) is almost intolerable. The world would be a better place without petty arguments over who's opinion is "correct"

Considering the fact that this forums biggest draw in its infancy was the fact that it didn't separate its users by consoles which is what everyone else was doing at the time, Id say without console wars GAF/NeoGaf would never have been as popular.

While I get keeping things civil, the notion that this place was above such menial things such as console warring always seemed a bit silly. Especially when so many of its moderators in it's history obviously were picking sides in them =/

The thing is, the battlefield is a lot more boring now ie it is just Sony and Microsoft duking it out....Nintendo left the scene in 2006 and hasn't been back....once upon a time the war was a lot more interesting, you had Sega. Panasonic, Atari et all in the fight...

I'd probably post more or read more threads if there was less or no pathetic console warrior BS at all, but this place is absolutely homering for a particular console with only limited exception to that fact so you can't really engage in or read good discussion on games because of that fact.

Errr......I come here to find out the latest news in gaming. And it's a place I can speak my mind without some woke cunt banning me.Stick your console wars up your arse.

I'd have more tech discussions. Its almost impossible to discuss hardware without the same 'specialists' sprouting up and showering us with their totally unbiased and agenda-free 'knowledge'.

Is it different elsewhere? I assumed it was the same everywhere, or worse, and that it came from a particular platform being 2x bigger worldwide and completely dominating in some countries.

The forum would be much better without All those sickos. Gladly some of the worst are (at least temporarily) gone.

I think we could be a little stricter because there are some flagrant mofos on here.

This is a wooly line to draw though. There's the intensity of the posts, the frequency, the consistence, the brain cells applied, the users non-wars posts, history of bans, etc. There are a lot of things to consider, all which are highly subjective.

Then there are the biases of onlookers criticizing from the sidelines. They might have their perceptions twisted or might even have overmuch resentment at watching console wars while they are having a challenge trying to abstain themselves.

Anyway. Deal with it. Mods and policies can't make everyone happy and are nigh impossible to enforce any better than a roughly consistent way.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
I would hardly consider what we have now "console Wars"

It's really mild now. For those of us who were around at the time of the 16bit gen, the current war is like play in the yard..

The nicest person on this forum
I will like to see more discussions about actual games themselves instead of graphic whoring or controversy about what someone says on twitter or PowerPoint about sales charts and some you guys obsession over CEOs weird as fuck.

I’m not developer so I don’t care about what goes to graphics and I’m not investor so I don’t care about sales charts or CEOs and I don’t give a rats ass what random person says on twitter or other social media crap.

I come here to discuss games, unfortunately most my of friends are not in to gaming as much as I’m but the they good friends I grow up with so I don’t like bore them.

Thats why I come here but I’m no longer getting that, discussion about tech and sales charts bores me to death and have no Facebook, twitter or social media stuff to care what goes on there.

No, i love them. Theyve brought me countless amount of entertainment. (i dont even know how to hold or use a controller, but i do enjoy observing little people fight between themselves instead of teaming up and demanding better products)

Obviously gaming would be better off without them, no doubt about that. But reading the "console wars" comments is often more entertaining to me then half of the games published by those console makers.

It's all in people mind, if you don't play, you can't loose (or win), so, no wars.

Consoles wars was and is a child thing with your 10 years buddies at school arguing over and over "mine is better ".

I stopped posting on the Walmart forums because of all the warring between Walmart and Costco. Shit got out of hand.

I still wake up in cold sweat on occasion...

I must admit it was a very dark period, those 2 months...

I'll preface by saying I'll back Nintendo in any console war, but I like gentle ribbing of Sony and Microsoft diehards above outright attacks. I just mostly like following trends and numbers, so I'd definitely still be here.

Speaking of console wars, Does Gamefaqs forum or Eurogamer forum still exist?

What annoys me more than console wars is the VR haters that need to flood every single VR related thread (mainly psvr2 ones) to spread constant FUD, and it's always the same ones in every thread.

Problem is, the biggest threads here (at least seemingly so) have console wars undertones. It would be nice if the biggest and most active threads here were Official Game OTs discussing the latest releases but those tend to fade off the front page within a day or two.

In comparison, I had to ignore the Microsoft/Activision thread because it was the top topic (with a very large percentage of the conversation having console wars undertones) for MONTHS AND MONTHS. Might still be, like I said I ignore those threads in an attempt to curate my GAF experience. So in some ways, even though the mods seem to be doing a better job of banning console Warriors, it’s up to US as NeoGAF members to promote a better culture and ignore/not engage in those arbitrary discussions.

This sentiment I often hear but strongly disagree with. We were mostly between 8 and 18 when sega vs nintendo was going on. Now ps v xbox has been going on for 20 years and you have 40 year olds who never dropped it. They are deeply ingrained and have more intellectual power to waste toiling on it. Not going to lie, I kinda dig how console wars grew up with me lol. I mostly find it good fun and I even take my jabs here and there because I choose to believe these are mostly good people and neighbors irl who are just letting a vice run wild on the forum.

The times when I've given GAF a break are when the console warring is kicked up a notch, and that can be from any team. It's like hearing the same old jokes, pulled from the same old dusty book.

I'm a developer, not an amazing one, but I like to keep abreast of many different fields. Gaming is, in my mind, a whole other mindset. It's quite amazing at times, the things teams (not just devs, it's so much more multidisciplinary now) can pull out of the bag is amazing, and still somehow keep a stable-ish framerate. It's a shame then that such an interesting field, with such challenges in it, is mired by so many immature overgrown schoolchildren.

When GAF talks about games, either old or new, and discusses their enthusiasm for the games, I think it's great. When it's drive by comments and low effort "should have played it on $platform" type dreck - not so much.

Console wars" is a term used to describe the competition between video game console manufacturers for dominance in the market. Typically, this term refers to the rivalry between the major players in the industry, such as Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, as they release new gaming hardware and software.

The term "console wars" has been used for decades and has become a common part of the gaming lexicon. The intensity of the competition between console manufacturers can often lead to heated debates and passionate arguments among gamers, with each side defending their preferred console.

Console wars can be seen as a positive thing for gamers, as it drives innovation and competition, which can lead to better products and more options for consumers. However, it can also create a toxic atmosphere among gamers, with some individuals attacking others for their choice of console or engaging in online harassment.

Overall, while console wars can be a divisive topic, they remain an important part of the gaming industry and the culture surrounding it
Thanks..i was trolling btw, so i hope you didnt write all that by yourself

Reading the Microsoft-Activision thread I've really started grow weary of all the fanboy - or just plain bad behavior - shit that's going on there. I would rather just read actual thoughts and analysis about the thing, not ridiculing MS or any other manufacturer, not ridiculing people - executives or commenters -, just adult discussion whether or not it is going through and if not, why and what does that mean for the future of gaming and so forth.

But "adult discussion", is there even such a thing?

GAF without console wars. Yes, please. Because other than that, this place is good. That shit is pulling it down in a serious way for me.

Of course, people here seem pretty normal and you can actually have an opinion without having some dickhead pulling you up for wrong think.Actual console warrior idiots are called out and banned whenever they step over the line anyway,I think the moderation here is fantastic.A lot of stuff is just over enthusiam anyway, people are too fucking sensitive these days and mistake taking the piss for console warring.I spent a couple of days ragging on Phil Spencer and Xbox after that interview......was it console warring, fuck no.....it was me having a laugh and some fun.

I would pay GAF every month to not see news from Nintendo, Microsoft, PC, Android, EA and Ubi. I go in console wars because I don't give a shit about those! Give me the option to pay, and I will never troll those again, please!

Sony GAF and Mac GAF are great! 👍

There used to be people who were involved in the industry dropping by to say hi and tease a few things. There we iniders or groups (think CBOAT) who would get us hyped AF by leaking things.

Because of the console wars most of these people don't really post here. Anything they say is met with garbage replies and accusations from all sides and I can fully see it not being worth it.
Industry people only post on era. It's blasphemy to be seen on gaf in their circles.
