Finally. Xbox Series X and S have combined sold a total of 2 million units in the UK.

The new consoles took 128 weeks to sell 2 million units in Microsoft's 2nd biggest market. This is:
  • 12 weeks faster than Nintendo Switch,
  • 24 weeks slower than Xbox One,
  • 18 weeks slower than Xbox 360, and
  • 30 weeks slower than PS5,

Interestingly they also gave us the average launch selling price of the Series consoles: £386. What can we make of this number? Or is it just the average between the MSRPs?

As long as you keep the MSRP at

Series S £250
Series X £450

You can actually use the average sale price and the combined number of sales to come to solid estimated amounts.

Unsurprisingly the more expensive Series X is selling more consoles, because people don't want blue screens on borderlands 3 I assume

Yeah, you can make your assumptions alot more simple by fixing the arpu to the rrp.

Also given the series s seems to be more discounted, the percentage should skew more to the Series X if I ain't being slow.

Blue screen probably isn't the issue.

Slower than the Xbone? Ouch...Xbone was the worst console in Xbox history (also under Phil Spencer) and its selling weeks slower? Its over this gen for Xbox.
It sold pretty well in the first 2 years before it went downhill.
If it weren't for those 2 years, Xbox would have had lower sale lifetime.

Yeah, people forget how well the xbox one started.
Exactly. I've been saying this for some time now. People blame Don Mattrick for the Xbox One failure. And although he was partially responsible for it, the launch of Xbox One did not suffer from it significantly.

The real problems of Xbox One started after a couple of years when the games dried up under Phil Spencer.

For the first 2 years, Xbox One competed extremely well with the PS4.

Yeah the FOMO and advertisement influence is gone. Word of mouth has to be very bad when they cant even sell the Series S for $200 over the holidays.

It was under mattrick because the brand needed inhouse studios to make those games, considering how long it takes to make games.

Phil however lacked the resolution to get 3rd party games to his platform in order to cover those holes.

Both of their actions led to Xbox one situation.

Games. They lack the thing that sell the console.

Xbox one had pretty good 3rd party exclusive games.

If the series console had those games, it would have sold a lot.

Slower than the Xbox One is crazy.

Remember the Xbox One came off the back of the Xbox 360, people where excited for the next installment, it was coming off the back of an incredibly well received product.

However the Xbox Series was coming off the back of the Xbox One, the question asked at launch was "how could it be worse?"

Blue screen probably isn't the issue.

I was using hyperbole to poke fun at Series S being the red headed step child of the Series.

Anyone know who was in charge of first party during the final years of the 360 gen and Xbox One gen under Mattrick?

You don't need to Google, you just need to know he needs more time.

Are Dring and gamesindustry MS PR mouth? It should have never being compared to the Switch which had less holiday sales in the first place.
Right? Also, those two consoles aren't even direct competitor.

Either compare it with a PS5 (if you want to compare it with direct competitors, launching in the same time frame), or compare it with Xbox One (the last console launched by the same company).

It is the eighth fastest home console to reach this number, GfK says. It is one place ahead of Nintendo Switch, which reached two million sales in 140 weeks.

In terms of other Xbox consoles, Xbox One remains the fastest-selling Microsoft machine, hitting two million sales after 104 weeks.

PlayStation 5 reached two million sales in October last year, becoming the fourth fastest-selling home console in history.
