Yakuza 6 actor suspended by agency over alleged link to organised crime

Hiroyuki Miyasako, the actor who plays Tsuyoshi Nagumo in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is involved in a scandal.

Miyasako is a 49 years-old Japanese comedian who’s among 11 actors dropped by talent agency Yoshimoto Kogyo Co. after recently discovering they attended a party hosted by someone linked to organised crime.

Japan Times reports that the party was held five years ago by a group “involved in money transfer fraud.” Miyasako and other comedians provided entertainment for attendees, and were paid for their efforts.

Despite the actors not being aware of this apparent connection, the agency is nonetheless no longer interested in representing them. “Although (the comedians) were not aware it was a gathering hosted by an antisocial group, we still consider it a very serious matter that they accepted money from such a group,” Yoshimoto Kogyo Co. said in a statement.

As you might expect, broadcasters in Japan have already begun taking episodes where the comedians are featured off air, or cut out their scenes entirely. This is typical for Japanese media, as recently seen with Judgement’s actor Pierre Taki, who was replaced after the game’s release with a different actor.

Sega had to call back copies on sale and reissue a patched version from which Taki was completely scrubbed. The same could happen with Yakuza 6, though it’s unlikely given the game’s age.

We won’t know for sure until Sega decides whether the matter is grave enough to warrant taking action. Yakuza 6 is likely going to end up on PC at some point, which could be reason enough to make a change.

Doubtful they didn't know. The full story is that is one comedian brokened the deal with the yakuza group without going through the talent agency first (unlike modern hollywood, but like it was in the past, people on TV belong to an agency and are subcontracted to tv programs and movies). The actors denied receiving payment while also claiming innonence. At this point things were iffy.

Then they found out they -did- get paid and they got punished.

With judgment sega scrubbed Pierre since the game was new. Nagoshi said maybe he wouldn't have done anything otherwise so ps4 Yakuza 6 is safe.

As for the PC version, I think it's considered for foreign audiences (China and America) so they might not scrub him but it is possible.

One of the guys who is getting punished is Hard Gay; Pro wrestler turned comedian that hasn't been on TV for a long time since he got married (to a woman).

Cynical take: actors tried to bypass their "pimp" and get a juicy private contract, they got caught and are getting publically "executed" as a lesson to the other ones that even top stars need to play by the rules.

It's one thing for Pierre to snort coke, but this guy did nothing wrong. He basically just got unpersoned for reasons beyond his control.

That is horrible. He is getting punished for something he had no clue was wrong and happened 5 years ago.....crazy.

This is typical of Japan and it's pretty stupid since it was just entertainment. Miyasako is a really interesting guy and been a staple on TV over here for a long time.

Japan still overreacting to this kind of shit.

I find it fascinating how certain cultural issues make people go batshit there but not in the USA, and other issues that make people in the USA go batshit while Japan couldn't care less.

Humans gonna human.

If this was a GTA game and it was reported that one of the voice actors was connected to a Mafia group, Rockstar would be milking the news to its fullest extent.

Personally, I think it is rather amusing that a voice actor from Yakuza is connected to the actual Yakuza. That is kind of awesome. Props to Sega for their authenticity. Sad to hear about the guy losing his job, though. But that's the strictness of Japan for you.

Exactly. It's way over the top.

Isn't this the third Yakuza actor with criminal ties or involved in crime? Can swear there have been 3 by now at least.
