It's that time of the year.

Let's do this. Take a look back and reminisce. Games you stuck with till the end.

Skip the dropped and abandoned like I did if you feel there are too many due to subscriptions.

In order of appearance:

Lake - a game for 13-year-old girls. Don't ask.

Cyberpunk 2077 - Proper finishing all side arcs and the campaign I semi-dropped in 2020 cause I couldn't fucking take it any longer. At the current state, it's TOTALLY OK. Not enough to wash the taste off playing 90 hrs of it on launch tho.

SIFU - PLAT. Best kung fu combat brawler EVER, true modern beat'em up.

Elden Ring - PLAT. 320+ hrs later wtf. GAME OF THE YEAR.

FAR: Changing Tides - Zen gaming. One of indie highlights of 2022.

Trek to Yumi - charming presentation but falls flat due to wonky combat, ultimately forgettable

Ghostwire Tokyo - some good ideas not enough to make up for a lackluster barren open world. Mid-range.

Returnal - Tower of Sysiphus DLC - PLAT, AWESOME expansion to my 2021 GOTY, nuff said.

INSIDE - 1000/1000 gamepass replay.

Horizon Forbidden West - Low key hated it despite 89hrs on the clock, how the hell did that happen? I mean it was barely alright. 2017 game rehash adding nothing of significance to the original, making it worse by a painful upgrade system, insufferable self narration and horrible climbing. Maybe I wasn't ready for another open world of this size after Elden Ring. Maybe I'm still not ready.

Martha is Dead - An actually good walking sim thriller, wow.

Thymesia 1000/1000 - Amazing indie soulslike underrated banger. Rough around the edges but totally worth it. Challenging, satisfying sekiro meets bloodborne vibes.

The Ascent DLC - 1000/1000 Good to see you back indent.

Stray - PLAT - I love the pussy but that ain't no GOTY pussy man.

The Last of Us Part 1 - PLAT. All over again. Happy it exists, now PS5 HD P2, please.

MoonScars - no joke great metroidvania, genre's best entry of 2022. Don't miss it if you liked Blasphemous.

SCORN - 1000/1000 - Proves the point for gamepass. Remarkable, weird, slow and just different. Love it or hate it, imo essential.

Plague Tale: Requiem - Not the AAA step up over the original I expected. The environments look nice but overall a letdown. Good story, great voice acting, copy - paste last gen gameplay.

Signalis 1000/1000 - The best videogame story of 2022. An amazing survival horror, exceeding all expectations. On pair with timeless classics of the genre.

RE: Village DLC - Piss poor DLC to a very mediocre RE game.

Return to Monkey Island - Best point and click I played in 2022. The only point and click I played in 2022.

God of War: Ragnarok - PLAT @ 96 hours. This is PS 1st party AAA. A perfect sequel to an incredible game. Absolutely loved it.

Somerville - Great art but the rest is all jank. Hoped for so much more.

Endling - Nicely crafted indie furry game that released on the same day as Stray so nobody noticed.

Pentiment - TL : DR. Very well written.

Callisto Protocol - PLAT. A painful one. I'm not done here.

This is the way. It’s one of my favorite games of the year and I’m not sure I’ll ever forget about it, so weird, so unique, so visually cohesive and amazing. I didn’t ”PLAT” it but I finished it and once again I learn that I can’t trust critics. Last year that game was The Ascent, this year it was Scorn.

As for the topic I stayed til the end on:
Scorn, a one of a kind gaming experience
Uncharted Lost Legacy, I want more
Elden Ring, 350+ hours, GOTY
Miles Morales, LTTP because of PS+, fantastic
Returnal, LTTP again, favorite game on PS5
Immortality, ugh, yet again can’t trust critics

Pending…
Will hopefully finish GOW Ragnarök in a couple days, I’m not as excited about the gameplay as I thought I would be, pacing is all over the place, but the story is great and feels like it’s made for grownups, cool bosses too.

Will probably go through Horizon FW after that, stopped early because I fell in love with Elden Ring, I think I’m 30 hours in or so, really liked it.

Live from NeoGAF, it's Friday Night!
Carrion - My first game of the year. Lovely pixel art and it was so cool to play the bad guy. Platinum.

Hot Wheels Unleashed - This got crazy addictive. Took a while to master the controls but then it was a hell of a adrenaline rush online. Platinum.

Sifu - sogood.gif

Horizon Forbidden West - It looked so good, but I hoped the game would be a lot more than it actually was. I doubt I would play a sequel. Platinum.

My Name Is Mayo 3 - Don't judge! I played the first two and wanted to know how the story continues. Platinum.

Gran Turismo 7 - This is where i stopped playing other games this year because this one consumed my life. GotY. Will be my most played game next year for sure. Platinum.

Redout 2 - I hoped it would fill the Wipeout hole in my heart but it didn't and i dropped it halfway through. Cool soundtrack!

Returnal, Tower of Sysiphus - I'm so happy we got this. Still play it here and there. Go Housemarque!

Stray - It was cool. Especially the atmosphere. Not to deep however. A one and done for me.

The Last Of Us Part I - It felt still rather fresh in my mind although it's been long since i played the original. Speaks for the quality. Platinum.

Prodeus - This was my sleeper hit this year. I love it. The community maps keep me coming back on a weekly basis. What a game! Platinum.

Signalis - This was super eeri and atmospheric. A love letter to a forgotten time.

The Callisto Protocol - Not a flawless game but i had a wonderful time with it. I really hope we see a sequel. Can't wait for the DLC. Platinum.

God of War Ragnarok - Finished it today and i'm on my way to platinum. It was a very good game but i feel burned out by the franchise.

last of us 2 . story hit like a truck

elden ring . rekindled what I felt for skyrim back in 2011. nuff said.

hitman123- no hud, full immersive, hard difficulty. one of the best gaming experiences i've ever had. levels are full of details, dialogues and cues on how to find creative ways to kill your targets. sometimes it took 2 hrs to complete a level this way, but man... was it satisfying. later, meddled with some speedrunning stuff. overall it stuck with me. i will return to this exquiste trilogy one day

death stranding story hit like a truck

guardians of galaxy , it was the most energizing, fun game i ve played this year. positive vibes all around

a plague tale requiem, ending hit like a truck

gow ragnarök... a bit meh. kratos' ending hit like a truck. the whole ragnarök event was disappointing. it nullified alot of cool buildup that could've been something more

I like to just go through my achievement and trophy menus on consoles by the end of each year, it's all there chronologically.
Thanks for this tip. I had no idea I'd picked up and dropped so many games this year until I went through these trophy lists lol

Games I completed, grouped by genre/what they mean to me:

Immersive Sims - played after being unfulfilled by Deathloop:
Prey
Dishonored
Dishonored 2
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider
Deathloop(?)
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Soulsbornes - played through all of these immediately after Elden Ring because I wanted MOAR:
Elden Ring
Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3

Replayed personal favorites during the dry summer months:
Dead Space
Dead Space 2
Max Payne 3
XCOM 2

New games (for me):
The Order: 1886
Ghost of Tsushima
Dying Light 2
Dragon's Dogma
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
Horizon Forbidden West
GOW Ragnarok
The Callisto Protocol

Also, there's a number of games that aren't exactly possible to finish and I tend to revisit them every couple of months to play them for a week or two, including:
Elder Scrolls Online
Elite Dangerous
Forza Horizon 5
Call of Duty Vanguard - Zombies / CoD MW multiplayer

Fuck me, that's a lot of games. No wonder I have no social life to speak of, lol.

Not so much gaming from a volume perspective this year but what I did play was some amazing stuff-

Elden Ring- New bench mark for open world games, incredible sense of exploration and giving players agency over how they play, plus drop dead gorgeous architecture and world building, played somewhere around 150 hours. My Game of the Generation.

Returnal- Just dripping with atmosphere and plays like a dream, more people need to play this game, played 40-50 hours

TLOUR- Every bit as good as I remember. Along with Demon Souls is a high water mark for how to do remakes. played +/-20 hours

Small games include- Witch and the 66 mushrooms, Beholgar, Lost Ruins, and Creaks, and I'll possibly finish Guacamelle and Astalon as my last games of the year.

how is your number of beat games past Covid? 2022 felt like I gamed a ton, turns out it's much less than previous years this gen. If I include DLC and old game replays that's

2022- 26

2021 - 40 - that includes over 500hrs of GoT MP
2020 - 45 with multiple NG+++ replays of soulslikes and such.

Blacksaad - Haven't finished it but cool Noir story

Thimbleweed Park - Didn't like it after the first third

Cyby 2077 - Addictive but not as good as Witcher 3 obvs

Dying Light 2. That game was cool, but not as good as the first game. The scenario (eastern european city) was less interesting and they put too much focus on conflict beween the different human factions. I would have wished they had put the zombies in the spotlight. Overall a very enjoyable experience for zombie fans like myself, but a class below its predecessor. I also hate that you can't repair weapons in Dying Light 2.

Scorn. It was a cool little game with a unique artstyle and some proper old school survival horror momens. I really liked the game, something unique and daring.

Modern Warfare 2. Infinity Ward delivered. A very addicting multiplayer experience. The only problem for me is, that it's lacking classic 6vs6 multiplayer maps. Infinity Ward just released 2 remakes for season 1 and that simply is not enough imo. Other than that, a ton of fun.

I played and completed a few older titles, GTA Vice City Stories, Resident Evil 4 (in anthicipation of the remake) and Forza Motorsport 7 - to name a few - but nothing that came out in 2022. It's been a rather dry year for me, but 2023 will bring the heat.

I beat the most games (12) I've ever beaten in my adult life this year. I've already beaten one for 2023 so I look forward to doing this again next year!

Beaten in 2022:
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (PS4) (Platinum!)
Bloodborne (PS4)
Demon's Souls (PS5)
Slay the Spire (Switch)
No More Heroes (Switch)
Triangle Strategy (Switch)
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition (Switch)
Ratchet and Clank (2016) (PS4)
Ys VIII (PS4)
Resident Evil Remake (PS4)
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (GameCube)
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness (PS4)

Suikoden: A (Vita)

The first game I played in 2022. Absolutely loved it. Used a guide and got all the characters. The story is fantastic and each cast of characters are unique. The graphics are good. The gameplay mechanics are all fun. I loved to fill out my hideout/Castle and I loved how it added more things the more I recruited characters. Overall a great game

I played some of Suikoden 2 on Vita but the save file got corrupted and save got deleted. I'm just waiting for the HD Remaster on Switch. I'll play it that way. Suikoden 2 is the only game in the series I haven't finished

Breath of Fire 4: A (Vita)

Great Great game. I haven't played Breath of Fire 1, 2 and 5. But so far this is my favorite Breath of Fire. The graphics are fantastic, with 2D looking Sprites with 3D backgrounds. The plot is Gripping and the cast is memorable. The battle system is fun and I tried to find every dragon gene. I appreciate that I could swap out any of my party members during battle. The minigames were actually more forgiving and I had alot more fun as a result. The OST is great. Also Four-lu is a great villain

Lunar Silver Star Harmony: A (Vita)

Simple but great love story. The visuals are amazing, I love the look of the 2D sprites with 2D backgrounds. The battle system was alot of fun with a ton Strategy. The music is catchy. The casts are stereotypes but still charming. The plot was enjoyable despite being predictable. Great game

Hades: A (Switch)

I'm a huge fan of Supergiant Games. The artstyle and 2D graphics are fantastic. Each run through Hades to get to the top addicting. I'm not usually into Rogue Likes but this game is fantastic. Interesting characters and a plot that reveals itself slowly everytime you die and go back to the beginning. I can't wait for Hades 2

Final Fantasy 9: A (Switch)

This game and Chrono Cross are the first games I ever played and finished. This was back when they first came out on the Playstation 1. So this is a replay. The cast is still a quirky fantastic delight. Vivi and Steiner being the standouts. The prerendered backgrounds look fantastic and the 3D models look great. The soundtrack is great. The plot is a fun ride that does alot of callbacks to the older Final Fantasies. The sidequests are fun, especially Chocobo Hot And Cold. The battle system is my favorite out of all 3 Final Fantasies released on the Playstation 1.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3: A (Switch)

Loved this game. It's number 3 of my favorites of 2022. The graphics are fantastic and the open world was interesting to explore. I played in docked mode, so for me the experience was fine. Ran perfectly and I loved to go to new areas to see what interesting geography I would run across. The battle system is fun and semi action based. I thought the sidequests were interesting and I specially liked to do the Heroes Quests. The story was fantastic and had alot of twists and turns I wasn't expecting. My only gripe is the cast, they are still good but not as memorable as Xenoblade Chronicles 2 cast. Also I wished we got more fanservice too. That was a disappointment. But overall I loved it more than the first Xenoblade but the second Xenoblade is still the best. So when it comes to ranking the Xenoblades, this would rank second. They were still some excellent WAIFUs though.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: A- (Switch)

Fun JRPG aimed at kids. Battle system was a Rocks paper scissor type of deal. It was fun and strategic. Plot was simple Kiddie fare. Not a bad thing though. Kayna is WAIFU though

Live A Live: A (Switch)

My 2nd favorite game of 2022. This came as a massive surprise for me. By the end of the game I ended up loving it. The 2D HD graphics were fantastic. Each Time Period had an interesting plot and good cast. The battle system is great and very strategic. Had alot fun with the battle system. The music was good. I ended up grinding alot and getting the best ending. I did all the extra sidequests too. Didn't know this would be my second favorite of 2022.

13 Sentinels Aegis Rim: A (Switch)

Fantastic Vanillleware Visual Novel game. It's more like a Visual Novel with High Production Values. Each of the backgrounds, characters and characters animation is what got me fully immersed in the world. The plot and characters were all fantastic and I was gripped from the start. The amount of twists and turns was staggering. The story went to places I didn't expect. I would say the weakest part of it though is when you have to battle in your mech. I found those parts a little boring and I played better SRPGs than the SRPG aspect offered here. Graphically looks phenomenal. One of the best looking Vanillaware games I seen. Runs smoothly on Switch and the loading times were fast. The soundtrack is great. Also there's alot of great WAIFUs.

Resident Evil Revelations 2: B+ (Switch)

Fun horror game that's all.

Triangle Strategy: A- (Switch)
I played a lot of this game. The SRPG gameplay is fun and addictive. The story is great too. The 2D HD graphics are pretty. The characters are good but the voice acting is hit or miss for me.

Trails From Zero: A (Switch)

My favorite game of 2022. I tried to do everything in the game. The cast of characters is fantastic. The plot is fantastic. The graphics are charming and the music is fantastic. The battle system is again fantastic. I can't wait for Trails From Azure.

Persona 5 Royal: A (Switch)

I played the original on the Playstation 4. Great game back than. Still a great game. The extra added story stuff was worth it. It was great replaying this game. My only issue is that most of the cast don't really interest me other than Hacker NEET Girl.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope: A (Switch)

I loved the first game. This is an absolutely fantastic sequel. I ended up 💯 every world. The graphics were colorful and popped. The music is excellent. The gameplay is as addictive as ever.

Tunic: A (Switch)

Fun Indie Zelda like game. I ended up getting all the pages and opening every chest. I really liked the combat. It was fun. Not to mention the graphics. Looked amazing. The soundtrack was mellow. There was hardly any story but I didn't mind, I was just exploring the world

Spirit Hunter Death Mark: B+ (Switch)

Good Visual Novel. But the gameplay loop got kind of repetitive. Not to mention each story in the game was a bit predictable. But the creature designs were horrifying and they did a good job making the player anxious exploring these creepy areas

These are all the games I've completed in 2022. Been a slow year for me. Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West and AC Valhalla took up huge chunks of the year. But overall I didn't play as much as I used too, due to being preoccupied with life.

1. God of War Ragnarök
2. Dying Light
3. Legend of Mana
4. Turtles Cowabunga collection
5. Elden Ring
6. Blair Witch
7. Inversion
8. Blood Omen Legacy of Kain
9. Broken Sword Directors Cut
10. Resident Evil OG
11. Silent Hill
12. Rise of the Tomb Raider
13. Horizon Forbidden West
14. Beyond a Steel Sky
15. Jak and Daxter: Precursor legacy
