Some people are so eager to anoint Infamous PS4's champion to go up against Titanfall. That's like Troy sending Hector to battle Achilles, but they chopped off one of Hector's hands first. The marketing for Titanfall is insane! I'm confident the Xbone version alone is going to absolutely smash Infamous in next month's NPD, and dare I say it will even outsell it worldwide. PS4 may be dominating in worldwide sales, but I don't think it will be enough to overcome Titanfall's monstrous tie ratio. Infamous is just not being positioned to be that sort of absolutely-must-have title for PS4. And that's okay. PS4 is selling well enough without needing to spend tens or hundreds of millions marketing any single title.

Regarding talk about potential lost PS3/PS4 sales of Titanfall EA incurred by selling-out to Microsoft, I have no idea what those companies' internal math says. It may have sold more simply by being available to a larger installed base. But I don't think it would have been that much more. First of all, if it was multiplat, Microsoft wouldn't be putting all that marketing money behind it. It would just be another multiplat FPS that goes up against COD, BF, KZ, etc.. It may sell well on its own merits after people experience it for themselves and sell it to their friends on it, but it wouldn't have that pre-launch frenzy it enjoyed as a hyper-marketed exclusive. I also think the 80+ million installed base of PS3 doesn't mean much. I think Titanfall PS4 would have actually outsold the PS3 version. I would have expected it to absolutely flop on PS3. Poor sales of late gen PS3 titles, even GT6, have shown that many gamers have moved on. I don't think an online-only multiplayer FPS that would have almost assuredly been the worst-performing version of the game would have sold well on PS3.

Agree on Infamous but disagree on the bolded. It's still EA. You think EA would not have made a shitton of Marketing/Ads/PR without MS???

That IGN headline is so sad, I want to say that they're paid off but they gave Titanfall an 8.9 and not a 9.8 like Halo 4. Maybe it's just the one fanboy on the site that came up with the title.

Well, Titanfall is not being marketed just by Microsoft. It's a combination of both EA and Microsoft. That's why the marketing campaign is so huge, bigger than any single game I can think of. So, take the current marketing and subtract Microsoft's contribution from it and you have whatever marketing money is left from EA. Like I said, it would be going up against the likes of COD and BF, two multiplat FPS, with one being from EA. BF4's marketing was big but no where near Titanfall's.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Do you know how DK diud digitally vs retail?

No one knows, Nintendo didn't give any percentage. Given it's been tracked for a week + digital sales seem to be far lower than 3DS for retail release, I suppose 120k were sold at retail...

I feel special knowing I'm one of the few people in the world who played and finished that game.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

Almost hit the nail on the head

Lets have some perspective here. It's not like the PS4 did worse. Still in a virtual sell out shipping more consoles for the month than anything thought. Just the XB1 did better than anticipated.

Maybe people will shut up about lol consoles doomed mobile only future now.

PS4 did better than people thought, Aquamarine had people in the prediction thread thinking the PS4 wasn't even going to sell 200k along with the Xbone

I expected xbox to do well feb and march due to titan fall, since the deals are great. Those who were waiting to get the xbox till price cut, has great reasons to buy it. PS4 did ok, I periodically check my area in SF, and it's been mostly sold out so we'll see if infamous or mgs will bump that as well. I"m curious of the worldwide number :)

I think the new Infamous title will be the best selling in the series, only because the ps4 is starving for a new exclusive title. And with that said, it will rival Titanfall pretty well. Both are new games people want to play on their new consoles.

MH 3DS ~ 240K now

Great! Between this and BD, I'm quite hopeful for MH4U, unless Nintendo really screws up things early next year.

However, US is seeing a similar trend to Japan: 3DS software sales are improving compared to last year (in January 6%, this month 25%, which is definitely more significant). Hardware is down, but not way down like in Japan, the decrease is faaaaar more limited.

LOL IGN:

Looks like someone corrected Mitch Dyer work. Correction, they only corrected it on the front page or when you click on the article. It still has the original title before you click on it in the Xbox One section but it's no longer on the front page and PS4 section. The same guy that said you can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080p unless you have a 60 inch TV or bigger.

Also:
Microsoft to be 'Direct and Honest' With Fans (IGN)

I'm sorry, but IGN is looking more biased everyday.

Mithch Dyer, again!? are you fucking kidding me....

Heshinsi

"playing" dumb? unpossible
So XBO+X360 = ~372k
PS4 + PS3 = ~370k.

Why would they even bother doing a spin like this:

Microsoft said:
With Xbox One and Xbox 360 combined, the Xbox platform sold more hardware than any other home console platform and held 43 percent of the home console market share in the U.S.

With the numbers being a virtual tie? So you've got 43% of the market? So does the other guy.

It's either a Titanfall bump or PS4 is supply constraint.. ..

Posts like this are amusing and frustrating in equal measure. There's a third option you know - people want the Xbox One as they are more enticed by its overall lineup. It's almost like you have an inherent bias.

Still nice to see PS4 winning NA though..
Aaaand there it is!

I wouldn't have bet on that even with that bad momentum for Xbone..

On that I agree entirely

Not sure how you got that?
I can see the argument I suppose. The US and the UK were the best territories for the 360, so good for them that they essentially counteracted the RoW sales going the other way.

Currently they're seeing second place sales in the US and UK and presumably RoW going even further the other way. And they'll want to reverse that obviously.

Do we ever get UK hardware numbers?

I hope these XB1 numbers will finally cease the endless litany of "XB1 in trouble" reports we keep seeing in the gaming media.

This is the market they need to run away with, not break even in. NPD sales health for a MS console should be domination over their competitor since their worldwide marketshare outside of the US is usually so much lower.

Breaking even in the NPD is a win for Sony after the marketshare numbers of last gen in NA when you consider that Sony still sold 80 million worldwide after losing big time in NA.

Yes i'm sure this month of trailing the number one slightly less will end all the hardware troubles, poor sales in Europe, lack of news about tier x countries and horrible pr.

To be fair, yes you are right.

However, it seems like the media is treating XB1 like Wii U lately.

Its ridiculous.

Lol awesome gif.

Try Infamous Second Son

So the 3DS is wedged between the 360 and X1, saleswise. Not too bad.

PSP did 243k in the same point in its lifecycle. 3DS might not even reach PSP numbers. I think Nintendo should be very wary about the handheld market

Nothing! I said nothing!

They are only slightly behind at $100 more expensive and a tonne of early mistakes. They will be fine in NA, the price cut will help in UK. Time to start launching in more counties.

It probably still wouldn't be comparable to what they have now. Microsoft is positioning Titanfall as the one game to get to their entire existing and potential user base, and they've been doing that since E3, even to detriment to their own releases. Besides, when a game (especially a new IP) launches as a platform exclusive (or even semi-exclusive, like in this case), you have the whole of the platform's fan base rallying behind it, and the other consoles' fans rallying against it, making it a hot topic of conversation and creating a lot of exposure. Publishers are well aware of that.

How many XB1's did Microsoft sell in January again? What was it like 145K or something? Decent bump in sales from last month if that is true.

I am surprised to see that Sony cannot ship more PS4's to the U.S. than this. Why are they still having such supply problems? I guess that Asian launch didn't help matters.

I still say they should've help off the Asian launch until the summertime and sent that extra stock of PS4's to the U.S.

Japan launch, and at least a week lost production in the china factories due to Chinese New Year, both of hose would have hit February stock availability.

I'm surprised Sony had this many to supply at all.

March should be much better - amazon restocking regularly seems to point to Sony both supporting infamous launch and heading off a titanfall spike

The issue seems to be for many if the XB1 isn't leading PS4 its doomed and failing. The PS3 had the same issue for a long time (although arguably the case was stronger against PS3 for a fair while).

Clearly in US the XB1 is selling solidly enough and is finding its audience. The PS4 is also selling solidly and a little ahead and that seems to be triggering the usual over-reaction.

At this point only one console is clearly in trouble in US and that's the Wii U - the PS4 and XB1 have both sold okay in US and the signs are they will continue to do so provided games and services continue to flow to each (which they will of course).

If there is a reason to be concerned for XB1 it is from the worldwide perspective only, centered around Europe at this point with obvious concern for how it fares in Japan.

PS4 seems solid everywhere and remains challenged by supply - with the possible exception of Japan although I personally think it's doing as well as any console could at the moment given it's library at this point combined with the local market conditions.

When all is said and done, I expect Xbox One will win the United States by a small margin while failing disastrously everywhere else.

Microsoft will handily take March thanks to Titanfall.

Are those platforms in order of sales? So CoD sold more on Xbox than PS4? That's interesting given the sales edge to Sony and the momentum currently. That, plus titanfall might start to define Xbox one as the FPS box, and I'm sure MS's wouldn't mind that at all.

Brand association and exclusive timed DLC.

If co-marketing (aka waste of money) wasn't effective, neither Microsoft or Sony would had paid for it.

Why would they? Sony will probably announce 7M+ shipped for their quarterly report to annouce 2M above expectations.

MS will probably announce some 5M shipped, which clearly shows how much they are trailing behind with that not even showing the real difference.

And being outsold by factor 2 or 3 worldwide in 2014 doesn't really help.

Microsoft is definitely benefiting from PS4 shortages. However, the whole situation also means that they can hold off from making any significant moves (like dropping the price, especially in Europe, and launching in other countries) until Sony resolves those issues. In the mean time, they're riding those higher margins for all they're worth.

Wait, is there confirmation that 360 > PS3 > Wii U? Damn:/

That's really not much different than any other month in NA right? PS3 just isn't America's game system of choice. And Wii-U is on life support with graphics that barely set it apart from those other systems without the cheap and hugely extensive library that would appeal to those people just now buying last gen consoles.

I disagree here. In the US i think the xbone looks to be fine but in Europe they are in trouble despite the PS4 supply issues. If they don't change something Sony will completely dominate that market.

I think both XB1 and PS4 will sell more than 400K in March.

The would be crazy/great.

I am expecting an increase next month due to both console having big games for this month but I think the Xbox One will outsell the PS4 in the NPD by just a little bit. I'm thinking they will both be over 300K.
