Media Create Sales: Week 37, 2014 (Sep 08 - Sep 14)

I might be wrong, but I guess Japanese gamers really like the Playstation brand. They want to buy a PS4, and as soon as good games start coming, they will get the console.

Which is exactly what people have been saying , yet get constantly drowned out.

Give people games to play that they want to play and they will play it , regardless if it os on a smartphone , Handheld or a console

Why would Japan be any different ?

Smash numbers a kinda ridiculous

not sure why that series this big.

Also I expected a slow drop in 3DS sales for the New 3DS versions where is the drop?

Obviously Japan waited for the white PS4 and now the sales train won't stop
;)

At least the PS4 managed to sell above 10k before the year ended. I wonder how it will do next week.

The Xbox one drop made me laugh hard and I'm not sure why. Smash is killing it. Did it perform better than Yokai Watch opening week?

Sony needs to release a nVita.

Is it me or does you're avatar change expression like every other week

Red PS4 bundle with Bloodborne

Do it, Sony.

With some cool art on it as well.

So did the PS4 receive a bigger one-week bump for Destiny than Wii U did for other big name games (on a non-holiday week)?

The biggest week the WiiU had excluding holidays was 22,829 with the release of DQX. Though as people have said the White PS4 had a notable part to play. Iirc the only way to get a white PS4 was through the bundle.

Agreed. Save that big price cut for holiday 2015 with FFXV and a new model :)

Exactly. New model will probably be 2016. No way 2015. I expect a price cut in 2015 though.

The problem with your hypothesis is that the PS4 has thus far sold worse than the Wii U launch aligned.

After 205 days on the market(that's how long the PS4 has been out):
PS4: 709,000
Wii U: 960,000

PS4 will be getting a lot of new games in 2015 however most of those will be multiplatform so they won't have a dramatic effect on sales.

The one major exclusive PS4 game, Bloodborne, typically does 300k in Japan.

Meanwhile Nintendo is releasing at least 8 exclusive Wii U games. PS4 probably won't overtake Wii U in Japan in 2015. However, it will live longer than the Wii U and will be able to catch up in 2016.

Wii U launched during holidays: their first 4 weeks were highly affected (positevely) by that: the Wii U launched with NintendoLand and NewMarioU and MH3U. I think that during those 205 days (not sure about this) Wii U also saw the release of Game&Wario and Pikmin. The fact that Nintendo will have exclusives is not that important (HW-wise) when: not all the exclusive are great sellers (as Game&Wario?), and even with big hits (like New Mario or MK8) we saw significant bumps nor change of paces).
PS4 is selling worst, aligned, but still without any holiday and we way less significant software releases. I think that it is pretty clear that the Wii U struggles despite significant software (even if sporadic), while PS4 struggles because of the lack of software (that will somehow come, starting probably by end '14 with God eater and than from early '15 on?))

I don't even know why they bothered with another Xbox in Japan.

Wii U continues its slide. Just to irk whoever asked me last week: something something new baseline something.

PS4 surprises. Now if only they can release Destiny every week.

Maybe there will be a Bundel with each destiny DLC :p

it's less than 40K off last year's pace... I don't think it's definite.

The gap will be practically reduced to 0 the week that coincides with the release of Wii U Family Hardware Bundles (40.118 units sold).

What Bruno said (but I don't understand the gap reducing to 0 ¿?¿). Last October Wii U had very good bundles (Wii Party + NSMB U) so the gap will get bigger with 2014 YTD.

Now I'll wait for Dengeki to see where Gaist Crusher charted :p

Didn't Gaist Crusher chart last week? (at least in Dengeki). I don't think it'll appear this week :|

The thing is in Media Create the sales dropped by 26%, but in Famitsu the sales increased by 1%. So by that reasoning, suddenly a massive number of download cards sold last week.

Also, how can their LTD be lower if they include downloads?

10./15. [WIU] Mario Kart 8 <RCE> (Nintendo) {2014.05.29} (¥6.156) - 4.859 / 669.100 <80-100%> (-16%)

Mario Kart 8 run out of fuel, what a disappointing performance in these last weeks after a good August. Now it is evident that Wii U won't be able to match last year's sales unless it has some very aggressive promotions for December holidays. Time for more Wii U family hardware bundles?

Did you mean double?
I really think that no MK8 bundle in Japan was/is a suicide.

Smells like real blood!
Hideo Kojima actually wanted to do something like this with Snatcher for PC. He wanted the floppy to have some coating that "melted" (or something like that) from the heat of the computer, giving and odor that would smell like blood. There would also be a hidden message revieled on the floppy. The idea never happened though, the game was released on a standard floppy instead.

Wow, Destiny actually had some sway in Japan.

Code:
|System | This Week | Last Week | Total |
| PS4 | 22.213 | 6.373 | 28.585 |
| XB1 | 3.574 | 23.562 | 27.136 |

PS4 already surpassed Xbox One in Japan launch aligned thanks to a Bungie game published by Sony.

Flop, failed to join the 1 million club.

06./02. [3DS] Dragon Quest X Online <RPG> (Square Enix) {2014.09.04} (¥4.104) - 22.977 / 75.351 (-56%)

Awesome, too bad Dragon Quest is dead in the west. :(

Fully expected the X1 to drop like a rock, but it's still kind of shocking seeing those numbers! It doesn't even have anything that'd potentially bump sales in Japan for the rest of the year. MS fucked this up bad.

3DS didn't drop last week though
Its sales have been quite mediocre this year even when big titles like Yo-kai Watch 2 released before the n3DS was announced.

The problem with announcing a unit right before it goes on sale is that it will be leaked everywhere. You can see this with the iPhone 6. No pictures of the Apple Watch ever leaked.

Edit:

Like everywhere else. It's a next gen title with a last gen port so people want it for the PS4 like we've seen with previous next gen games like MGS and Watch Dogs. Install base has got to be the most over valued thing in SalesGAF :p

Yeah its pretty clear people are done with last gen, probably because how long it lasted.

Nintendo needs a new family bundle this year. A Mario game (3D World or Kart 8) and Wii Sports Club.

If only NCL could have a price drop ready for the holidays. A £199.99 ¥ equivalent, MK8/Smash Bros. plus a free choice of another game bundle might not be a bad idea...

The worst part is it will receive more Japanese centric AAA Console Games than the WiiU xD

Oh Nintendo all the opportunites...

Sorry, for some stupid reason I mistook Last YTD column for YTD.

Well, this way Wii U doesn't have the slightest chance to match last year's sales without a price drop and aggressive bundle promotions which I don't think it will happen. Nintendo can't afford to bleed more money.

Are we looking at the same sales of Yo-kai Watch? Let alone many doubted it would give a boost at all since it was supposed to have an established fanbase at the system.

This argument becomes boring. One month from now we'll know who's right and who's wrong.

By the way if there wasn't Smash, 3DS would have fallen to 4 digits by now.

I absolutely nailed the first week, but was off by a thousand this week.

I'm thinking five figures, like 25,000. And then a major drop to 2,000 the next week.

These numbers are based on zero market research and have been pulled from deep within my buttocks.

For the third week, the fires are showing me the culmination of the past. So my guess is 361 sales for the Xbox One (or maybe it will actually be 362 sales; the flames were unclear if the first Xbox counted in the foretold totals or just the numbered iterations).

No, you won't. Whether it's 3DS saturation or the New 3DS announcement, the numbers would look the same. New 3DS will definitely be strong out of the gate, and there has been 3DS saturation talk all year. You'll just be having the same argument in a month, with different numbers.

so N3DS is going to sell over 3M units in 3 months ?
Wouldn't surprise me at all. It has changeable faceplates. It only has to sell 1M though.
