NPD Sales Results for September 2014 [Up1: Smash/HW/MK8, Destiny stats, 3DS HW]

Yes, but even with the free game give away I didn't think it would be the case since people would have (obviously) needed to buy a system with it.

This month blatantly shows that digital sales need to start getting tracked. More than likely made up a significant portion of Destiny sales for both consoles (as you pretty much stated).

Digital sales are growing all the time, it's odd they don't track them.

So you did then?

::shakes your hand::

Thought it would be close due to those COD stats (and stats for other shooters) but I still thought the PS4 standalone would do better.

I've always said that regardless of marketing, it's hard to wipe away a decade of Halo-association with Bungie, and Halo association will lean towards Xbox, being that Halo will still be on XB1 and nowhere else. That, and as shown by CoD, despite the install base difference, FPSes with a history on Xbox will do equal, ( or better at launch ) compared to PS4... for now. If the install base gap continues to widen, then welp.

I think a few months from now, standalone Destiny LTD on PS4 will outsell XB1, but the results were what I expected at launch for NA.

I wonder if Mordor has a solid shot at charting higher next month. NBA 2K15 will outsell it, but no October AssCreed this year. Warner has to be happy about the word of mouth on it. Still need to pick it up myself.

I predict a Xbone pricedrop by the holidays. Either that or a crazy bundle like $399 with Halo:MCC and another game. All EA sports games selling more on the PS4 does not bode will for the deals MS has with AC and CoD. Those will likely sell more on the PS4 as well, unless the price is right.

And I'm really glad that Hyrule Warriors did like it did for being released near the end of the month. World needs more Warriors love

So can I look forward to a "over 140 billion bullets fired in Destiny on Xbone" press release from Microsoft soon?

In all seriousness MS, you put out a Kinectless Xbone + MCC bundle for $349 and I'll bite. That's the best offer you're going to get from me.

Those reviews didn't do shit

Man, I'm telling you folks, as a Halo fan: The word of mouth around Destiny is not positive. It sold amazingly well, but its population numbers will drop off a cliff.

The competitive suite is not sustaining players and people are already fed up with the repetitive nature of the missions and raids. Halo 4 was the fastest selling game in franchise history but the community wholesale rejected the game, and the word of mouth surrounding it was not good. This lead to declining player population to almost nothing (relative to what past Halos would pull) by the end of the year. I suspect something similar will happen with Destiny.

The one wrinkle in my comparison is the kind of hooks Destiny has, along with the upcoming DLC. If I'm wrong - which is possible - it will be because Bungie made fundamental changes to loot, and infused compelling content into a game which sorely needs it. Bungie are smart game company so they're never truly out of it. But they have some work to do.

"In addition, the PS4 sold more copies of every EA Sports game released last month than any other system and was the largest console for Destiny."

goddamn.

I think the New 3DS is going to damage the sales a lot this holiday season. Their fault for not releasing it before Christmas.

Well NoA probably wanted to clear out their current stock of 3DSs before the N3DS comes out, so expect big sales on it this holiday.

So, considering that Destiny PS4 bundles are not counted... Sony dominated completely?

I didn't think otherwise, but guys, I'm telling you, November will be closest! I mean, if Halo can't do it...I don't know what to think

That's not the Halo game people go out and grab a console for.

I think Destiny effect on PS4 HW sales means that this Holyday season should be interesting for the actual gen performance against the last gen.

And of course PS4 was gonna beat Xbone sales...WTF Patcher.

3DS: 140K (-40.4%)

This is troubling. I hope Nintendo dosn't expect to hold 3DS for two more years with just a hardware revision.

A significant portion of the new Xbox ones sold last month were during that free game promotion and destiny was sold with most of those.

Adding those while subtracting the ps4 bundles would make it incredibly shocking if xb1 version wasnt number 1.
The free game promotion was only for a week and this is pure speculation:

Digital sales are growing all the time, it's odd they don't track them.

They track them so publishers/shareholders have relatively accurate numbers to go off of. There's no need to have a third party track digital numbers when they know exactly what they're selling.

RIP Pachter.

Those Destiny sales really interesting.

Destiny sold most retail copies on XB1? Weird, guess a bunch of bundles/digital sales for PS4.

Wait, Destiny sold better on XBO? It's gotta be due to the game being bundled on PS4, right?

Edit: FIFA 15 sold better on PS4! This after that article from that one retailer saying otherwise. Ha.

Uh oh

Why is XBO the first SKU for Destiny?

Destiny Xbox > PS4

Destiny XBO > PS4!

It's fate, I tell you!

Even though it doesn't include bundles, I'm still very impressed with X1's Destiny performamce. The game doing better stand alone on X1 goes to show just how damn well it did

That's what more than a few people have suggested as the sweet spot for system sales.

Broad digital data doesn't exist, so tough to say. Recent core releases have trended there, however.

Really looking forward to see if the Call of Dutys and ACs of the world get strong digital share, or if it's more the core gaming audience that is leaning more digital than they have before.

Is it fair to say 'the younger the demographic of a game, the lower the %tage of digital sales'?

Halo can't do shit against that GTA5 bundle.
