Some people went to the console their friends with, or has the version of multiplats they would like to play, controller preference, maybe some of them even like those darn indies Plus offers. I mean this is all speculation as much as speculating that MS should be doing better because XBL isn't down as much.

Actually XB1 is doing very well; above MS's expectations. The PS4 is obviously a bigger hit right now. MS may never catch up but that doesn't mean it isn't doing well or doesn't make lots of money for the industry.

That's a bit of under-estimating though. While they are both games that do not appeal as much to the mass market, Sunset Overdrive has had actual Marketing muscle behind it. I mean they had an add over American Apparel in Time Square ffs.

Better hardware, better performing multiplats, greater selection of games. There is a reason why a third of new PS owners come from Wii/Xbox 360. "PS fans".

More powerful console, and Sony has done an excellent job creating a diverse lineup and partnering with the right big titles. Also I think MS's strategy to buy exclusives is not going to work this gen, people are smarter than you think and they feel most of these exclusives won't stay exclusive. Even Ryse may come to PS4 now, and has already come to PC. So that leaves MS with a cycle of Forza, Halo, Gears, and Fable. I don't think that is going to cut it.
I don't saw that. Anyway, it's strange a Musou game outselling Donkey Kong, even being related to Zelda.

How do we know it's above MS expectations?
Because last we had a sense of what kind of expectations they had for this gen, they were talking a billion consoles across all companies.
I take it by that they were expecting 300-400% better sales than 360 across the board.

I could care less; I have both systems for two specific reasons.
Xb1 for multiplats(most friends game there), online, UI features
PS4 for exclusives, PS+ deals

Sony mostly made up for its mistakes which helped sales in year 3. Microsoft still has a way to go before it is totally forgiven of their gaming sins.
So tell me what Xbox one has essential to play online that ps4 hasn't please tell me

Because the XB1 was a weaker console than the PS4 and still is. MS can't change that. The only thing that has shown to move consoles is to reduce XB1's cost well below that of the PS4, but MS has been unwilling to do that on a wide scale permanent basis. Btw an actual price drop is move effective and a pseudo price drop by including a free game. I've said for a while now that the $349 XB1 is about at parity to a $399 PS4. However the more the XB1 is seen as the losing console, the greater the price reduction will have to be in order to reach mind share parity with the PS4.

That's the only way I see it assuming it is a notable aspect boosting the PS4. MS even with all their promotions seems to have been fairly conservative this year. Everything was timed bundles, timed promotions to garner some outcome for a specific month. No real price drops other than the unbundling of the kinect. I feel next year MS will start to get more competitive in that regard.
I would see it more like the White XB1 Bundle has Sunset Overdrive attached to it. Should help bolster SO sales
PS2 was in no way a monopoly. Nor would even a PS4 that managed to outsell PS2 [not happening] be a monopoly due to PC and mobile being so competitive

Zelda is a huge series with tons of characters. Musou games is pretty much a character games. That's a recipe for success and I'm actually surprised that it couldn't do more.
SCE is a subsidiary of Sony. Even if Sony somehow goes bankrupt (doubtful), Playstation still isn't going anywhere; Sorry to burst your bubble.
They'll most likely spin it off into it's own company.

Rising from the ashes is a bit of an exaggeration. It's still below 20K a week. It's likely below equivalent Dreamcast month, although that system was at bargain bin prices by this time.

I think you are downplaying the "cycle" that MS has. Sony has a "cycle" as well. They all do.
Buying exclusives, like Rise of TR, for MS was probably done just to have something to compete w Uncharted.

Whenever I see you post I always feel as if you try to detract from what is going on now. The PS4, today, this month, and the past year, has outsold your preferred Xbox. Do you ever get tired of constantly diverging from reality? I mean, sure, you bring up semi relevant points with Sony losing money, but what about Microsoft who's lost money on their gaming division? Why? Zelda games have always been bigger than Donkey Kong, and while HW is a spin-off, the game still got in the spotlight thanks to fans and because it got overall better marketing than Tropical Freeze.
