I'm currently doing just that. It's absurd and I'm tempted to make a thread about it. Should be a way to jump within the system to distances that far.

You can customize pretty much every aspect of the modules in your ship. Power plant, jump drive, thrusters, shields, power distribution, sensors, fuel tank, life support etc. Then you've got the internal compartments to fit either a shield generator, fuel scoop, cargo racks, refineries, interdiction module, and discovery scanners for exploration. With all that comes power, heat, and mass balancing. Higher mass meaning less jump distance. Livery has multiple paint jobs and decals but not every ship has multiple paint schemes available at the moment. The type of base ship determines how many internal compartments, hardpoints, and utility points are available to fit.

Sounds amazing, thanks man.

so....x55 or x52 pro?

Warthog.

I have to say, I'm really interested in Elite. I'm damn disappointed it's not on Steam though, but I'll probably get it sometime soon anyway, especially since the other good-lookin' space-sims are quite far out (Limit Theory & Star Citizen are the only ones I'm aware of, besides Elite ofc)

But at the very least, I want a damn stick, if not a full HOTAS setup before I cave in. So I'm currently trying to figure out which to go for aswell, and I have to say it's hard to decide :/

Ok so I have not payed any attention to Elite at all. Now I read that it's coming out on the 16th and today is the last day to pre-order it with some goodies. I'm close to impulse buying it but I know absolutely nothing about it. Can anyone give me a quick rundown? Is it worth to get the pre-order edition or should I just wait till after release/reviews?

If you read through the thread you can find a lot of impressions and videos about the game.
If you are interested in just the feel of the game, here is a video I took two days ago.
No commentary, just the game speaking for itself.

I was watching the GiantBomb quicklook and my God, are they thick.

"Is there really no sound anywhere in space, even when there's a big explosion?"

"There's no air? Ohhhhhh, so that's why you can't breathe in space."

How can you spend your entire life without the slightest bit of curiosity about the universe you live in?

Man, it would be nice if my game stopped microstuttering. I've been dealing with occasional (every three to seven seconds) stutters since I first played the game back in May. Switching video cards, reinstalling Windows, updating to Windows 8.1... Nothing helps.

But it sure looks like I'd enjoy the game if I could play it.

Has to be a nod to Sherlock series as he didn't know the earth revolved around the sun. Meta GiantBomb. Right?

Hi,

Gamma 2.05 is incoming. Everyone will be moved off the server at 5pm GMT and the servers will be off for up to 45 minutes.

Here's the change log:

- Fix a rare crash that could occur if a ship belonging to a stale but valid faction shot someone
- Fix a rare crash that would be caused by a missile that was partially constructed (or partially shut down) appearing on someone's radar
- Fix rare crash in nebulae sorting
- Fix a rare crash when hyperspacing
- Prevent crash if we fail to allocated vertex or index data
- Scrolling with the Game Pad in a module slot in Outfitting causes the highlight to disappear
- Fix unrecoverable error when trying to abandon a mission
- Stop missions disappearing when switching servers
- Stop in progress missions disappearing when switching servers
- Reputation fix for massacre missions
- Decrease many reputation gatings for missions
- Increase number of missions on a board
- Fix independent permit missions
- Fix salvage mission contracts so that they tell the player what system to search
- Make sure that permit missions are included in the upload
- Added in game links (in the training descriptions) to the external tutorial videos
- Fix for several system specific mission components failing. Specifically addresses salvage and assassination missions
- Don't allow the route finder to make more then one step which performs a galaxy octree search to improve performance
- Filters are reset when you exit from the map
- Avoid showing trade route lines for the same commodity flowing both ways
- Update stations to allow for planet classification changes (fixes some missing stations)
- Fix a bunch of incorrect meta-data about terraformed planets
- Mission jump distance corrected for long range jump distances
- New batch translations (French & German - not text complete yet)
- Better debug output for starsystem web request errors
- Rename slave category to 'slavery' to hopefully reduce confusion about slave legality
- Various text fixes
- Fix erroneous cargo item "CropHaarvestors" in USS

Hmm, anyone else having this issue?

I suspect it's more common than people think. Perhaps some people aren't as succeptible to framerate inconsistencies like that, or maybe it just doesn't bother them. As for me, the stutter is annoying on a monitor and it ruins VR. I can't play it like this.

I've been posting in a thread on the official forum: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=65415

While no devs have commented in that thread, they've at least been responding to the support ticket I opened 2.5 months ago.

Nothing like that happens on my rig, maybe is it related to SLI/XFire config?

It's not. I don't use two cards. I get the stuttering even at 640x480 with graphics set to Low, in all areas of space, even when I'm doing nothing at all.

The thread I linked goes through all of the ridiculous troubleshooting we've tried but nothing helps. I'm thinking it's an engine bug.

Since the problem is virtually impossible to document with a Fraps or Shadowplay video (the stutter is even worse in the video), the best way to illustrate the problem is to use Fraps to create a frametime graph as the OP does.

I don't believe so, and I doubt it ever will. Basically because of its niche status the players who want it won't care if they get it off steam or not. So selling it on steam (at least at launch) would hurt their profits quite a bit.

Because it's a niche game, the majority of people who want to play it already are. Being featured on a steam front page or being in a sale will boost their sales massively, and this game needs the players for it to work as featured.
However, like Kerbal, they might just wait until their own sale's portal is exhausted. Then they'll probably publish it on steam as a Steam Edition including all the expansions and what not. Not doing even that might be the death of them.

Elite Dangerous [OT] It's full of stars! (400 billion of 'em)

I like this one. Great reference and speaks to the game's scope. Maybe some variations?
