yeah so, if that's the cutoff for top 10 now (and this is actually #8), time to open bets on what position Splatoon's gonna chart next month

What's releasing next month?

Wii U - Splatoon
3DS - Puzzles & Dragons combo pack
PS4/XB1 - Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
PS4 - Ultra Street Fighter IV

Are those our new releases next month?

Where does this thinking come from? Boggles my mind.

Because when people are actively fighting to be top dog, it leads to fun developments and innovation.

Look at ALL of the software updates the XBO has been getting lately. It's kinda insane. If both companies are fighting for top, then they'll both be trying just as hard.

Yeah. Minecraft, MKX, CoD, NBA, Hardline, and GTA will be staying next month, so placing well for Splatoon will be a challenge.

Also interested in Mario Party 10 2nd month sales, since it apparently was one of the top 10 selling SKUs this month.

I'm pretty sure that's a running gag btw.
Ahh! I don't read these threads too often. So its actually a 13k difference, which is not a big deal in the bigger scheme of things.

USF4 is not coming to XB1. Its published by Sony.

Fixed. Thanks!

Also anyone else expecting Puzzles & Dragons to not do well next month? Normally Nintendo only seems to be able to promote a game/system at a time and the marketing support is clearly going to Splatoon & the Wii U...

It's a dumb viewpoint. Are you saying Sony has been doing nothing all this time?

Hoping a company doesn't "win too much" makes no sense. Weren't any of you around for the PS2 generation?

They'd be rolling out the updates anyway and them being behind as much as they are hasn't lead to a change in their ID@Xbox policy.

Competition fosters not only creativity, but better prices for gamers. Perhaps it's boggling to the fanboy mind... but for the rest of us, we've had enough Ma Bell and Madden, thanks.

Do you believe that because Sony lost this month they're gonna start giving budgets out for more creative games or are those games already in development meaning that Xbox winning a couple months doesn't affect what they're doing, creative-wise?

Gamers make it so there's better prices for gamers. That's the free market. The market has dictated that people prefer the PS4 to XBO so XBO has to do things to improve it's value in the eyes of the consumer, price cuts being one of them. The market forced Xbox to cut its price, a couple lost months in the US will not affect Sony's plans of when to cut the price of the PS4.

People expect way too much from North America sales parity.

Edit: And it's a difference of only 13k? People think this is gonna change things?

biggest and most important market.

Have you forgotten about China?

If just 1% of the population buy a PS4 that's like 13 million units.

Does NPD include digital sales? I always forget.

You can't digitally download a PS4.... as far as I'm aware.

And the saddest thing is, this is the Wii U's best market. If it weren't for the USA, Wii U sales would be REALLY awful.

It's doing worse than the dreamcast that had been discontinued at this point (aligned launches) and bear in mind the Wii U is still selling whilst the dreamcast at this point was selling 0. Yet the dreamcast is still ahead ltd.

Pretty surprising that Xbox pulled ahead this month, even if it was only by less than 20k, especially when the software for the month leans so much in PS4's favor. There were some really good deals on Xbox in April, correct?
Bloodborne falling off the charts is really sad.

this will mark the first post of many others who will prove to us that competition is not necessarily good. How during the ps2 days..blah bah blah

Interesting results that I definitely was not close to predicting

competition is good

This is only good for the consumer. We all remember how amazing Sony was during the PS3 days when they were loosing to MS that they eventually tied the 360 in worldwide sales.

And if Sony doesn't bring something good for this year (or at least that $50 price drop) I don't see them winning this holiday season either what with the XB1's price advantage and three big exclusives coming their way.

I'm surprised, Xbox one didn't have any noticable games on April but took no.1?!
But as an xbox one owner, I'm pleased.

Let's revisit that assessment if or when this becomes a trend. If the needle continues to move Microsoft's way in North America, and that's a VERY BIG if, Sony will drop the PS4 price in response. It's Economics 101.

Put that fanboy card back in the deck, friend. The point was that sales parity does not equal competition.

This is not that. The PS3 was losing handily in the US but was always doing well Worldwide. A loss of less than 20k in the month of April isn't gonna make Sony go twice as hard.

Nobody is saying that, do you think MS would have been doing all of their promotions and incentives to get a XB1 if they were not getting whooped by Sony on their home turf?

On the Xbox front, trade-in deals.
On the PS4 front, potential minor decline due to Batman bundle holdout.

It's not just games that sell consoles.

2 ~ 105, 4 ~ 51%, 1 ~ 42%

Welp MKX certainly cleaned up. They beat BFH first month sales despite debuting in one of the slowest months of the year o_O

Brand power wise I agree!

But mad max will be a surprise hit like sleeping dogs, only I think because of how well the movie is being received, it will get a huge boost.

Hah Nah I doubt it. Not when the protagonist looks like someone took an Abercrombie and Fitch mannequin out back and mercilessly beat him with a generic everyman bat. He might as well be named Joe the incredibly average looking leather fetishist.

But hey my predicictions were WAY off this month so who knows. I guess anything is possible.
