I love the MCU and am going to see this movie just because it's MCU...but...

It really does look like a pretty weak entry. Every single thing they show has Paul Rudd coming off as awkward. I have to imagine it's a problem with direction (and an intentional choice) but that seems puzzling to me. I'll withhold final judgment until the film is actually out though.

Re: Crow Threads/Walls of Shame:

I share the opinion that they are pretty stupid and pointless. The occasional "I will suck dicks if Shulk makes it into Smash Bros" type of post is probably somewhat deserving of mockery but those are fairly rare. Most of the comments that go into these posts are much more mundane and along the lines of "It doesn't look great" or "I don't think it will do well". It's just people sharing their completely justifiable opinions. Congratulations, you pointed out that some people on the Internet were wrong about something. Was the time investment to comb through threads and find these statements really worth it? I'm not naming any names but I think the people who do it need to find something better to spend their time on. It's one of the only aspects of NeoGAF I really don't enjoy since it seems to be incredibly common.

Nailed my feelings on "Wall of Shames", since all it does is stifle people speaking freely. Sometimes there is a good crow post/thread for hyperbolic crap that we can all laugh at, but most of the posts in this thread seem pretty reasonable in their concerns. Honestly, I think at this point there should be a wall of shame for all the fanboys that keep touting all the crow that will be served on this movie, in the event that Ant-Man underperforms.

I like the MCU and I like Ant-Man, but these trailers are just completely underwhelming for me. If the movie had fun with itself and we saw more stuff like the train scene then I would be confident in it like I was with GotG, but the marketing comes across as 1: generic superhero blockbuster and 2: cynical / self depreciating. (haha he's Ant-Man, we get it)

I keep waiting for them to drop a "definitive" final trailer that really sells this movie.

Not that I need to be sold, but just because everything so far just feels like teasers. There is a missed opportunity right now to sell some fun and quirkiness. Right now it feels like a pretty generic action movie with a tiny hint of sarcasm. If this wasn't Marvel, and I wasn't already prepared to see this film, I might give it a pass.

Why do people keep talking about how cynical the marketing has been?

I almost think people don't know the meaning of the word. Because they keep cutting to Paul Rudd making self-deprecating comments about the name? That does not equal cynicism.

I'm still cautiously optimistic about the movie but that was a lame spot. With the exception of the second trailer, all the advertising around this movie has been cut very awkwardly. Like the marketing people have no idea how to sell it tonally and are trying to figure it out within the actual marketing.

I understand marketing a hero with the power to shrink in size with a dramatically ironic "Heroes don't get any bigger motif," but I'm not sure if these trailers really sell that premise. The generic action scenes are meant to sell the film, but I think they'd do better selling the ex-con with his daughter. (Which some other trailers have shown a little.)

Playing up the connection to the rest of the MCU isn't a bad idea either. I wonder if this movie will get more attention after the character appears in Captain America: Civil War.

I'm there Day 1. Really looking forward to it; I'm sure it'll be a fun movie. Don't doubt Marvel! As for the Wall of Shame, I enjoy them whether it's for people who doubted the movie or supported it. It's in good fun so feel free to add me to the Wall of Shame if the film ends up being a putrid piece of shit.

Nah, there's nothing wrong with you being optimistic and looking forward to the movie. I was mostly talking about some users who like to shit talk the skeptics.

Er.... Captain America:CW is next year, Ant-Man is next month.

I know. I'm saying I wonder if more people will watch this movie after the character goes on to appear in other films.

(This is definitely a thing that applies to comic books.)

You know... I get the feeling this might be the first truly underwhelming Marvel film. Too bad Black Panther has to come out after it...

There was an article saying that the new script is more american.

“I think the most defining difference between the two scripts was that Edgar’s didn’t take itself as seriously. It was fun and silly and brilliant irreverent – a romp from beginning to end, in classic English fashion. Whereas where we’ve gotten to is so much more American. There’s tons of levity, but just as much emotion.”

I think the old one sounds better.

I don't care much for Marvel movies. They are pretty entertaining, generally well done, and I really appreciate the effort at building a MCU. But I just don't care much for superhero movies, as much as I loved TDK back on the day.

And still, despite the fact that actual Marvel fans are expecting to be disappointed, I get a strong feeling that I will really enjoy this. Go figure!

Put it like this, if they pull this off, Marvel can rest easy on Strange, Panther and Carol, abeit not use the Marvel playbook as much.

Haven't had much exposure to Ant-Man before either outside of some old Avengers issues here and there, but I'm really loving the new Ant-Man comic. There's a ton of great humor, fun uses of the character's power, and genuine heart between all the laughs.

For this movie, I don't think it will "bomb". I can't even remember the last superhero movie that would really qualify for that. (Green Lantern?) Although, I do think it will be the lowest grossing phase 2 movie and finish below Thor 2.

Totally agree.

What if it passes both Thor and Thor 2?

I'm excited in this movie mainly to see if they can pull it off. The marketing hasn't been great so far.
Well I'm hoping it's just the marketing.

Ants carry twice their weight or some shit like that. Plus, he's still has human strength when tiny. And controls ants.

Please....

According to different estimates, ants can carry 10 - 50 times their body weight! How? Because ants are so small, their muscles have a greater cross-sectional area (they are thicker) relative to their body size than in larger animals. This means they can produce more force pound-for-pound (or in the case of an ant, milligram-for-milligram).

If we were to apply this same strength to humans, your average 6ft tall, 185 lb male could lift up to

NINE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS

that's almost two and a quarter tons! That's the size of a small ELEPHANT!

What's the apposite of a crow thread? A seagal thread? Well whatever it is I'm making it if it underperforms big time.

The Galaxy trailers were awful. That Uga Chaka song? Such try hard gabage. Now what's interesting to me is that Ant-Man, which is the first Marvel movie I think looks great, is considered to look bad by Marvel fans. I don't get it. That said, I think the villian is kind of stupid. Like what is his motivation? I still don't get it.

Hooked on a feeling is garbage? WHAT

I don't agree that the GotG trailers were awful. I think they perfectly let you know what to expect from the movie. "Such try hard garbage" is a pretty poor argument for the trailers being awful. You're allowed your opinion obviously but at least explain why they were awful.

The guy playing Antman does not work at all, at least not in the commercials. And what's with the music choice? Everything seems so bored.

I thought it was well received. After that trailer showed, the song blasted to number 1 on Itunes if I recall.

GOTG looked good from the trailers. This doesn't. Simply as that.
