Godzilla |OT| Oh No, There Goes Tokyo!

So, this game kinda sucks. But I love it, happy I bought it.

It's a bit sparse on content which is disappointing, especially with the lack of couch multiplayer, but it's very fun in an EDF kind of way. Reminds me a lot of the PS2 Gundam game Federation vs. Zeon actually.

I figure this is a good place to ask, I'm a minor Godzilla fan and I'm enjoying the game. I was wondering what you guys would say the best movies to check out would be. I've seen the original, Monster Zero, and Godzilla vs. Rodan.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah

Godzilla vs. Destoroyah

Three of my favorites, with Giant Monsters All Out Attack being especially good.

Fucking hell. Unlocking JJ is about doing it speedily and getting to around 50 to 60 percent and THEN hitting the generator. Ignore the boats and tanks, they don't add to the percentage I guess.

Speaking of JJ, my first match with him was against Mothra larva. Shit took me 6 minutes. Literally none of his moves hit her except the standard square button attacks. Dat hurtbox.

So this would be the best way to go:

Roaring is the closest thing to blocking I think.

I might be crazy but it feels like Ghidora either has a load of health or a load of defense.

Just more health. I think Mecha has more defense or something. Makes up for both because they are booty if you get close.

I'm kind of curious what controls people would want. If you immediately moved in the direction you pointed the analog stick then any semblance of weight the characters have would vanish. I dunno, can't say I'm having problems with the controls at all, they make perfect sense for this game.

Also nice to see another "looks like a PS2 game" comment, showing that people have terrible memories when it comes to that generation.

I guess this is just another game that I enjoy that makes me feel completely disconnected from reviewers in general. Maybe people would have been easier on it if it was cheaper.

I LOVE the R1/L1 tank controls honestly.

Game isn't great, but I think its getting unfairly trashed on. Oh well G fans will pick it up anyways :)

Got to play this finally, and think this game is fucking awesome so far. Really feels like a Godzilla simulator, loving it. I think there's a ton of novelty and fun to be had here for G-Fans.

Finally completed the final level in Go Ashore.

Just need to unlock Mothra Adult, Burning Godzilla, Kiryu, King Ghidorah, Destoroyah, and Biollante.

Add my PSN, SG-17.

Unlocking stuff is kinda bullshit. How are you gonna ask me to fuck with Mothra to upgrade my boys for nearly every character?

Get outta here.

They should have had it be "collect X item, get access to upgrade tech," so that once you had enough Mothra cells or whatever you could just get that upgrade for all the characters as long as they had enough Evolution Points individually. That way you still have to play every character but you don't have to grind the fuck out of Jet Jaguar or whoever.

Gigan c'mon.

C'mon.

EDIT:

Is it just me, or are the controls different than whats listed in the OP? Grapple for instance is Forward+ Triangle, and sweeping energy is Forward+ Circle. Not sure how the other attacks are unless you have to unlock them. The 180 for instance shows on the unlock at L1 L1 or R1 R1.

Yup, i'm thinking this game (so far) is this generation's God Hand / No More Heroes 1 (or Chromehounds).

EDIT: Are evolution mode power ups used in online vs as well?

Have people actually unlocked the other moves? What path are you on?

I wouldn't go that far. GH was praised afterwards because gamers actually sat down and learned how to play the incredibly deep game. NMH has a great narrative and awesome story.

Godzilla is more in line with B-tier games that are for a particular niche, destroyed because it's not catering to everyone's needs.

Edit: For JJ, here's what you need to do.

- Go ashore
- Destroy the boxes and shit on the sides. Boats don't count. Don't even fuck with that.
- Get up to 50 to 60 percent. In between worked for me. Do this fast.
- At this point, go mess up that generator
- You'll be able to move still if you did it right, and JJ will appear. You can get the rest of the buildings if you want for completion.

Supposedly, this strat works on the other levels he's slated to appear on.

I got the between 50-60% really fast then messed with the generator and no one showed up at all. :(

I'll try again later in the day.

Just tried again and yeah, I'm standing here at 55% and nothing is coming. Do I need to use 1964 Godzilla?

Finally got it thanks.

Yeah they are. You're basically screwed if you're fighting an upgraded monster when you haven't upgraded yourself. They probably should have just given everyone max energy and charge speed for online.

I have all the upgrades for the standard Godzilla. Not sure what you mean by path, it's a straight line with the different breath attacks branching off for each one.

How do the breath upgrades work? Can you switch between them at will? I've been holding off because I like how the standard breath works and don't want to lose it.

You can only use one Godzilla in Go Ashore AFAIK

Once you've unlocked them it just gives you the option of using whichever you want when selecting Godzilla.

Here's a video of getting JJ to appear, Jabba:

The only thing I can think of is you aren't doing it quick enough. Or maybe you need to get the true ending first.

Only need 3 more trophies for the platinum, which are basically unlock everything. This means playing with every character at least 3 times. Some of these characters are just 😧

Anguris vs. Mothra: only his X and R2 attacks reach, very little damage
Jet Jaguar vs. Mothra larva: same as above, only square reaches
Mecha Godzilla vs. Anyone: this motherfucker is slow as shit. Everything he does is too slow. Only time I wasn't having fun was using this slow piece of shit. The roar + O attack takes like 10 seconds...and does practically no damage. It's actually funny how terrible he is.

I really wish the other Monsters were as fleshed out as big G himself.

Don't sleep on Mecha Godzilla. His shield is great for pushback and damage once you get them against the wall. His forward/back triangle moves are great for keepaway and do decent damage. His square strings are butt, but his normal triangle is great for pushing people back. You basically wanna keep laying on projectiles and comboing into charges when they get close to get them out of your space. If you feel like a super is coming on, start up that shield and charge for damage and spacing.

His beam does need a buff since he's so reliant on keeping people out.

Oh yeah, missiles can be chained together, so if you let off a forward, they stun long enough for a backward one that does more damage.
So far the worst character I've played is Space Godzilla. Dude takes far too much setup and work for damage.

I know about the corner juggle with the shield, but everything else is too slow. The forward triangle missles can actually be side stepped. It's a lot of work to do decent damage on an opponent, only to quickly eat a high damage combo. Or I suck. I don't like him lol.

Really not sure why anyone would want to play as larva Mothra.

Larva Mothra is garbage. I have no idea how to play as her effectively. It seems like Battra does more damage and does everything better, but I'm not sure.

He just takes a lot of work to get good with. I mean, this is all CPU based anyway, against people almost none of this matters since the game ain't balanced. But against humans, it's really about baiting them into corners and using missiles to guide them back towards walls or out of setups. The best thing about him is that he can, if used right, put you where ever he wants you to be on the map.

He just sacrifices usability and damage for those tools.

I'm someone who likes beat em ups and doesn't mind repetition if there are additional challenges BUT who doesn't know shit about Godzilla or his friends. I'm scared by the reviews, but the price will drop soon. Impressions seem very positive in here, but there are clearly some hardcore Godzilla fans in here.

Against all odds, I might buy this.
