NeoGAF Games of the Year 2015 Awards

The regulars of the Cold Steel thread don't even participate in voting, so it's understandable why it's low.
Kiseki fans need to stop being so insular.
Exposure for this franchise is a GOOD thing.
Don't be a Gollum and horde that precious to yourself.

Well, here's my top 10. Shame that Soma is not in the top 10 or 20 as it deserves to be and I'm mostly surprised at Super Mario Maker being at number 10 lol, I thought more people played and enjoyed it.

Anyways, here are my bros.

Thank you all once again for your hardwork and dedication.

EDIT: And MGSV got #3?!?!? I thought GAF was pretty lukewarm on it. Guess I'm going to have to make my way over to the voting thread to see what the hell is going on.

Goes to show how many people really like that game here, I wonder how it would've tallied if Konami had handled the Kojima break-up a little better.

Glad to see Life is Strange got some love, though, completely forgot about it when writing my ballot.

They're the votes only of the people on your affinity list, those whose ballots are the most like yours, minus your list.

Ok Cool! Sounds like a good way to do it. Bummed not a single person matched up with me well enough to have me on their list. SteamWorld Heist forever doomed. It'd be fun to find a way to match up with people that had some of the lower tallying games also on their lists short of searching through the GOTY thread. I read most of the GOTY thread anyway, just thinking out loud.

Great job though guys, this is always an amazing effort!

Man I'm only on one person's affinity list and it's 25 points

It's like high school all over again

At least you got picked last, I'm still sitting on the bench looking at my feet :p I thought I was fairly mainstream too, I had Fallout 4, SMM, and Rocket League, but I guess to many other downloadables or new ports to the PS4. How come Ori didn't make it on the digital download list? Did that have a retail release?

I started to just completely avoid the MGSV threads because of the negativity. I think it's a fantastic, but flawed game, however, so many people can only focus on the flaw. I guess I find it pretty easy to look past an incomplete story when the gameplay is so utterly perfect.

I disagree with the idea the gameplay is perfect, especially the gameplay loop, but this isn't really the place to debate that.

Awesome job Cheesemaster and timetokill.

My top 3 came in as 31th, 27th and 5th.

Also vita game is Trails in the Sky and not Trails of Cold Steel? Weird!

Trails of Cold Steel got SNUBBED.

It came out very late. In fact I got my copy only last week (was stuck in the (private) postal system and I am still in the last chapter of Trails in the Sky. Might be my GOTY for 2016 (though there is an Uncharted and a Danganropa game incoming as well).

Bloodborne won...I mean...Hmm..Anyway. I should really get around to playing more Undertale. I played for 15mins but forgot to go back to it. I didn't like TW3 at launch but recently I went back and I'm enjoying it a lot.

Yeah there was a lot of that, the hate mostly came from the story which I find fantastic, personally. I find that, going forward, more games will feature subtle interactive storytelling told through masterful gameplay-infused narratives and excellent character performances. I'll always remember MGSV as the game that tried to fully embrace it first, only to be sabotaged by its own publisher and misunderstood by its own audience.

My top 5 (Tales from the Borderlands,Until Dawn,The Order: 1886,The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Rocket League) made the top 50. Not bad.

Sorry Bloodborne, and Life is Strange, but I haven't played you yet. MGSV I haven't played yet thanks to Konami.

My taste align with GAF as a whole really well. The only two from the top 10 I didn't vote for were MGSV (because I didn't particularly like it) and Undertale (which I have yet to play). All of my choices made top 20 on GAF's list, and three are the exact same spot.
Gaf (my choice)
1. Bloodborne (1st)
2. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (2nd)
3. Until Dawn (9th)
4. Super Mario Maker (10th)
5. Ori and the Blind Forest (12th)
6. Splatoon (6th)
7. Rocket League (4th)
8. Fallout 4 (7th)
9. Life is Strange (5th)
10. Yoshi's Woolly World (20th)

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

I recently got it on my Vita and loved it. Didn't vote for it since I didn't think it was eligible.

Yeah remasters/late ports we're allowed. My ballot was stuffed with them. I had Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, Journey PS4, and Bastion PS4. LTTP but some damn good games.

Good lord, nobody else voted for Journey either. No wonder my affinity list was so low.

For every matching title in a pair of users' lists, add 25 - abs(rankForA - rankForB) - rankForA to the pair affinity score, then sort and print the highest 10 scoring pairings.

Huh, so which pair of users is closest to the magical 195 affinity score :p

(also who's the closest to the NeoGAF overall vote this time)

Yes. Gaming won. People give way too much emphasis on story nowadays. Not On gaf. Gaffers still. Understand gameplay is what makes video games gReat.

Pretty sure Undertale sold the least out of everything out of the top 10. If it was also on consoles I'm sure it would have been higher.

It would probably be #4 if it was on console.

I'm starting to think that I don't hate the "Bethesda free pass" narrative quite as much as I used to.

Fallout 4 is such a piece of shit game.

Fallout 4 seems to only be that high due to sheer volume. It wasn't in the top 20 of the high quality category. It's a bland game that doesn't really offend too many people (aside from RPG enthusiasts) so it made it near the bottom of many lists.

The top list is far from my personal list, but I'm kinda relieved gameplay trumped presentation once again.

Life is Strange above Tales from the Borderlands bothers me, though!

Thank you guys for spending the time organizing this once again! Great job :D

BloodBorne deserves the win. It's a masterful job of art design, level design, enemy encounters, and most of all gameplay. I gotta get back in and finish the DLC.

Witcher 3 is also amazing, but loses to BB in the gameplay department....IMO.

Shame that Rare Replay got snubbed, probably the best collection ever made in terms of games and bang for your buck. It's number 4 on my list yet no where to be seen in the overall list of games which leads me to believe that not even Xbox One owners played this thing.

Yesssssssssssss. Bloodborne uber alles.

Disappointed couldn't get Transformers Devastation up there but OH WELL EH.

I raise my glass to these individuals:

who I assume share the affinity of "weeb that plays mainly japanese games".

Transformers was robbed! It's not Bayo-tier, but still probably the best combat this year.

Two years in a row now with the #1. GAF is getting better taste every year.

just glad Bad Gameplay 3 didn't win :)

The second weakest Souls game finally wins GAF's GOTY. Still a great game. I'm so glad that Until Dawn made it to the top 10 but I wish Fallout 4 ranked a lot lower.

Looks like 165 was the highest affinity between Brazil and Sapientas. Basically had matching lists up to 7 games. Love all this data, I might script a couple things up to find some interesting tidbits :)

Good stuff. So many games on those lists that I still need to play! 2015 was a damn good year.

Honestly one of the best years of gaming in a long time. It hurt me to not even have games like The Talos Principle or Undertale on my list, both were phenomenal and I couldn't find a place for them. I didn't even get around to some other high rankings games like Bloodborne, MGSV, Tales from the Borderlands and Life is Strange.
