So guys/gals, let's talk day one for the heck of it. What do you plan on picking up out of what we've seen rumored? If there's only one SKU for the Switch, will that change your plans?

I'm on a strict buy one game and nothing else until I finish it plan from now on.

So when I buy (maybe/probably not day 1 due to Mass Effect on 3/21) I'll get:

-Switch (whatever option with most internal storage if there's more than one sku)
-Pro Controller (want to leave the joycons attached for easy switching, want a dpad etc.)
-Zelda

I'll probably get some of the BOTW Amiibo as well, those are rumored to come out before Switch launch though.

Just finished my bingo card:

So how does that work? Do you put a shot of whiskey on each square and down one whenever a statement becomes true?

Maybe the Splatoon bundle is just a GAME thing.

That's what I'm thinking, and I think LKD is starting to think that too.

Fake edit: That and I think the UK has a bigger push of Splatoon over the States. They did have a tournament several months ago and winners were guaranteed a Switch.

I'm leaning more towards there being one SKU with retailer bundles instead of two SKUs. Splatoon just doesn't seem like a pack-in title for me and we've heard nothing else about multiple SKUs other than that one Laura rumour which didn't even state there was anyway.

I think you're overstating the importance of this. We don't know what the landscape will be like in a year.

Wasn't meaning to say it's huge. Just that it's one more barrier for anyone who mains another platform besides PC as it's another cost they have to weigh.

I agree it's probably not a giant deal. Outside of us enthusiasts most people are only gaming on one platform anyway so a lot of the mainstream gamer market outside of Nintendo fans is already set for a while. Enthusiasts that want multiple are likely more willing to pay for multiple online services as well.

Still, Nintendo really needs to do everything they can to minimize costs and barriers to entry to make as many people from all levels of gamers get off the fence and take the plunge.

I want more storage but I dont want to be forced to have to include the cost of Splatoon into that because I don't plan on getting it at launch if ever.

well that's a mistake!

How much more? And from what? It would kind of be like the Wii U. 8GB vs 32GB.. Does it even matter? Not enough either way you go. You gonna buy a micro SD card regardless if you want more storage.

Naw, go buy Splatoon

from 32gb (if that's true for the base unit) to 64gb, that'd be enough to last me a good bit before needing a micro SD which will probably be more affordable in larger capacities

and I want Splatoon packed in dammit! I'm gonna buy it either way, may as well get it bundled with a console that has more storage

Took like 2 seconds to make this because I found it funny. He didn't even try to line shit up. Come on man... At least the 3D printing people put in some effort.

For me, I absolutely would have bought the "deluxe" SKU if it had a game like Splatoon and more memory. If there's only one SKU, I'll probably skip Splatoon at launch as I just didn't find myself playing online that much. I'd go for:

- Switch console
- Zelda: BoTW
- 3D Mario
- Pro controller

If we have a "Deluxe" bundle, I'd skip on the Pro controller at launch.

I also really wanted the new Zelda Amiibo, but I just don't find myself motivated anymore. I don't take them out of the box and they've been dropping in price left and right. It just seems better to wait.

We've gotten bitten by the amiibo bug but I just don't find the announced BOTW amiibo figures that charming. So we'll probably skip those.

If Zelda or Mario are coming out, definitely either or both, though I think you may be setting yourself up for disappointment if you expect both on day one. 😉

But similarly I'll set myself up for disappointment by hoping for Yooka Laylee at the Switch launch. 😂

I wonder if Nintendo would spread out 13 first party games over 12 months. 7 new (launch with Zelda), 6 remasters (launch of Splatoon) -- give us one a month, switching (heh) between new and remasters. Would that be enough first party content for most people for a year?

Yeah, I think for sure it would. I expect more titles than that starting year 2 when 3DS is presumably even less supported. I also expect smaller eShop games beyond that number. FWIW, the ports are rumored to be pretty enhanced from the sound of it, at least for Mario Kart and Splatoon. I hope and expect those will be almost like sequels.

To add one:

3). They're launching mid generation and a lot of gamers already have one of the others and are paying for PS+/Gold. Having to pay for another online service is another obstacle for fence sitters thinking about picking up a secondary platform.

All three of these reasons make sense to me. I don't see any pay to play online service for Nintendo just yet.

Apparently this guys is a Nintendo collaborator though.....

It's about as genuine as the guy on reddit who says they already have the unit in behind the display poster or whatever it was.

edit day one I'll probably only get one game, Zelda and possibly splatoon, cos I'll buy the games somewhere thats not Gamestop. Plus VC stuff if its up.

OBE1 says the Switch will start off with free online but become paid later?

Let's just forget for a moment here this rumour came from, the idea itself could be interesting.

Start with completely free internet that will always stay free for the very basics of playing online. But why not introduce a "Pro" tier at a later point? Kinda like what they did with the StreetPass Plaza?

probably a spoiler free Switch thread for those who can't watch the presentation live and don't want the announcements spoiled before watching (even though they'll all probably have their own threads on the front page)

Just bookmark the second page of the regular presentation thread maybe?

Attempting to stay on Gaf and avoid spoilers for something like that seems nigh impossible... I've never tried, but I just can't see that working unless you lived inside one thread. The front page will be covered in threads for every single thing they announce...

Spoiler free thread for the presentation. Although there's gonna be a million topics on the first page of gaming thats gonna spoil it for you.

OK... I'm still not following. What is the point of this? I mean, I kind of get a spoiler free E3 thread so that people can have a one stop repository for different links to the different presentations, but what are we even asking for here? If you want a non-spoiler link to the presentation, you just bookmark Nintendo's YouTube or Twitch channels.
