Priebus has been fired as WH Chief of Staff, replaced by General John F Kelly

I'm having trouble grasping why Priebus voluntarily resigning scares you.

Moreover "resigning" is often code for "I was going to be fired but they let me quit to save face."

If that's simply the case here, then great. I don't claim that the vibe I'm getting is "correct." It's just not that easy to tell what we can trust coming out of this administration. These guys are trying to fuck with our minds and ways of thinking as much possible. We need to consider anything.

I think what sets me off is an anonymous source feeling the need to get this out first. If I'm dumb and not seeing why Priebus wouldn't do this himself, then that's that.

He is probably exactly stupid enough to do that and to call it The America First party after being talked out of The Trump Party.

That's what I'm thinking. He'll end up sawing off a small chunk of the Republican base, but ultimately he'll fail and his America First party will flounder, but also hurt the Republicans in the process.

On the other hand, I doubt Trump can plan more than 30 minutes ahead of the present, so I'm probably giving him too much credit.

I get this weird feeling that Trump is going to split, officially, from the Republican party and establish some new party with some weird ass name.

Bannon would like it, and so would I.

It would split the Republican party.

Why do they think this will stop leaks?

There is no loyalty if people feel they can lose their jobs at a moments thought. And it seems everyone in place now is just looking out for themselves and more than willing to sell someone out.

I think you're giving them too much credit but I can understand why literally anything they do causes you concern.

This honestly feels like a continued erosion of Trump's cabinet that started on January 20th, 2017. It may not be good in the sense of "we don't have an executive branch we can trust", but I don't think it's cause for larger alarm.

Splitting from the GOP could be smart, if his base elects local politicians who jump on board we could be in for quite a shit show. There's plenty of people pissed at Republicans but relunctant to vote for a Democrat. And even if this unified Democrats and Republicans enough to impeach him we'd deal with the fallout for years. Insane how effective Russia was at seeding division in the US

A third political party would be hilarious if it fractured the current Republican vote so they couldn't hold higher office anymore. Doubt that would happen though.

I think it's time to really start considering the line of power as well. Pence has obv tried to carefully position himself in a way where he can somehow be unimplicated, but that may not work, and after that it starts to get really weird. If we go down to SotH on an administration voted in with the help of secretive foreign cooperation and an international disinformation campaign, I think it would be entirely reasonable for many Americans to start to feel like this election may need a re-do. And then things get really interesting.

It's impossible to overstate the hatred towards Priebus both inside the White House and from Trump allies on the outside.

A brief collection of nicknames for Priebus used by White House officials and others: Rancid Penis, Reince Penis, The Penis, Little Penis

White House needs to branch out with their nicknames.

In May 1973, as the Watergate scandal deepened, Richard Nixon took the unusual step of making a general his new White House Chief of Staff.

He does love that Nixon imagery
