SpaceX Dragonship Endeavor Launch: The Future Begins Now

It's a one second launch window, so if it had been 30 seconds later it would have been too late.

yeah I have a better understanding of what they are trying to do, they would have been too far away from the ISS if they waited it would not even be nearby that thing moves stupid fast

those link ups with the ISS is narrow

ULA could not even make it to the ISS the last time they tested their crew shuttle empty.

Motherfucker, better to be safe.

Seems so weird a bat out of hell rocket screaming many times faster than the speed of sound that goes to space and back gets pushed around by weather systems.

Mother says no, she's the boss.

Why do they send out rockets from Florida if it has such crappy weather, anyway?

I'm sure there's an explanation, just curious.

Close to the equator, close to the ocean, and benefits from the Earth's spin:

"The Cape had a big advantage," Starr said over other locations. It was selected for two reasons: the fact that it is relatively near to the equator compared to other U.S. locations, and the fact that it is on the East Coast.

An East Coast location was desirable because any rockets leavingEarth's surface and traveling eastward get a boost from theEarth's spin. A West Coast location would either send rockets over populated areas or have to contend with launching against the direction of the spin.

"Any object on the Earth's surface is already moving east very fast," Starr said.

And, the rate of spin is at its highest on the equator and slowest at the poles, so the Cape's southern location also gave it a boost, Starr said. Cape Canaveral is about 28 degrees latitude above the equator.

it is funny that NASA couldn't predict the weather

like, there are hundreds of scientists all telling us what the weather will be like in 25, 50, 100 years with absolute certainty. they tell us we are killing the planet and that "millions will die" based on their predictions.

yet they couldn't predict the weather for Wednesday

just something to think about

In B4 the selectively applied "CLIMATE ISNT WEATHER!!!" shrieks.

Those are two different things with very large differences in precision and timing.

Exactly. Predicting the weather is akin got predicting the daily machinations of the stock market. Predicting the climate is taking lots of data and looking for long term trend lines, kind of like how you can assume a % gain to any investment given enough time based on past performance.

But you wouldn't take long term stock advice from someone who was consistently wrong about the daily machinations of the stock market, either. If weather is used as a benchmark for climate in one direction, it's only fair to use it in another. 🤷‍♀️

You bastard, I almost spit out hot coffee! :messenger_grinning_squinting:

This happened today at Boca Chica Texas:

SpaceX lost one of its Starship prototype test vehicles after a successful test fire of its SN-20 Raptor engine. Reminder that this vehicle is in no way related to the DM-2 mission, the Falcon 9 rocket or the Crew Dragon Capsule. This is a test program working on advanced prototypes for the Starship program and failure is halfway expected.

You think our daily weather reports are consistently wrong?

the highlight of 2020

Yeah, not much competition though...

But I'm with you. I feel like going to Mars will be humanity's greatest achievement to witness in my lifetime. Mars is meant to be 2024 for people I think?

I had to check, but according to Wikipedia, humans have been around for half a million years. Getting to Mars will be the end of a chapter for sure.
