Which is all good. S is punching below its waist and it simply comes down to, you get what you paid for, Series X is in another league crushing with no sweat its competition..point,blank, period.

Can I just take a second to get the narratives straight?
It's okay if the PS5 doesn't output at native 4k, because native 4k is a waste.
Backwards compatibility is nice and all, but it's not a big feature.
It's outrageous that a machine designed almost exclusively for 1080p screens doesn't output at native 4k on backwards compatible games.
Now granted, One X patches sometimes do more than just up the resolution, and that's a conversation worth having, but the amount of anger over this is ridiculous.
The place this console sits on the market is really obvious. It's for people who just want to play games with zero thought for framerates and resolution. It's for people who haven't bothered with 4k even though it's cheap and accessible now. It's for kids and casuals who just want to play what they always play on a new box.
If you're not in that list, and you shouldn't be if you're on these forums, you shouldn't get a Series S. The Series X was designed for you, and it's a pretty sweet bit of kit.
Which begs the question, why would they even consider buying this machine for at least a couple of years.I really don’t think the target audience cares TBH. This is a casual fifa, COD, fortnite gamepass machine.
Because it still has those next gen features like a better cpu and an SSD.Which begs the question, why would they even consider buying this machine for at least a couple of years.
FIFA and COD will be on current gen for a couple of iterations and MS committed to the same for their titles, so really if the casuals don't care about having the highest performance and just want to play the games at a good price - why upgrade?
So technically xbox one x is still stroger than series S even with weaker cpu?
That or marketing. They could have at least made the hardware capable of Xbox One X enchantments. But I'm guessing the cost got in the way.
Non-4k device doesn't do 4k. How dare they?So how did this happen. MS is banking hard on BC features "XBOX Enhanced" for next gen.....
We could not stop hearing how XBONEX did 4K, if XBONEX is weaker than XSS and can do 4K on last gen games, why can't XSS?Non-4k device doesn't do 4k. How dare they?
Because it doesn't need to. It's not a 4k device. What's the point in forcing it to output native 4k or close to it for a console aimed at people with 1080p screens? We could not stop hearing how XBONEX did 4K, if XBONEX is weaker than XSS and can do 4K on last gen games, why can't XSS?

I mean, its still better backwards compatibility than the PS5 is offering.
That is MS’s trying to both paint it as a superior new platform (even now boasting XSS is several times faster than XOX) as well as position it as Xbox One S successor and not wanting to eat into XSX sales at the same time. Mess of their own making...
I'm not going to get into console warring, but just for your own info: the SS will have the same console wide enhancements as the SX. HDR on all games, framerates, etc.Ps5 will use ps4 pro settings and boost them
XSS will use xb1 assets often at 900p and boost them
Shame, if MS had given XSS more RAM memory, it could of used and boosted XB1X settings, but they were too tight.
Some games can be 4K even on PS4 Pro which is definitely slower and has less RAM, let’s cut the BS... this is a mess of MS’s own making. XSS not being able to run XOX game profile is MS’s artificially induced problem. This is only a mess in the minds of people who expected a non-4k device to inexplicably be 4k in some games.
The Xbox Series S is NEVER going to run a game in 4k. Everything else is conjecture, but the truth is its not an issue. Its being marketed as a 1080p machine. For the vast majority of One X enhanced games, it wouldn't benefit from having the download, while simultaneously taking up more space. Some games can be 4K even on PS4 Pro which is definitely slower and has less RAM, let’s cut the BS... this is a mess of MS’s own making. Pretty much if some games ran in 4k in BC mode then they would bitch about inconsistent messaging is it a 4k device or 1080p device. There is no winning with Sony gaf for Microsoft. This is only a mess in the minds of people who expected a non-4k device to inexplicably be 4k in some games.
Have you seen Gears 5 running at 120fps on XSS? I have not seen it, can you provide a link? Was there a DF video? Can the X1X run Gears 5 at 120 fps? The XSS can. How does that fit your narrative?
Can the XSS play 360 games. Like I could take any 360 game put it in the Series X and they will play. So you mean I will be able to play, Otogi 1+2, Gun Valkyrie, Project Gotham 1 at 60fps, PGR2 + 4 etc......?Dude, it gets so much worse. The PS5 can't even play PS3 games, and that was 2 gens ago!!!!! Games are being reset by a decade by this!!!!!
So why don't these people just keep their PS4's and XBOX One's......Overwatch and Fortnite plays just fine there. Overwatch is 60fps on these consoles....Why spend another $299, when you are playing these games just fine on your old console.....its like.. people here dont understand that there is a huge audience who wil just buy a series s to play rocket league, fortnite, overwatch and other games dont require insane graphics. Or loads of people don't even know there is a difference between 4k, 1440p or 1080p and they wil be very happy with this series s
Imagine that......IGN “The Series S could be faster than the PS5”
https://www.ign.com/articles/xbox-series-x-series-s-price-release-date-november-all-access Click the first video for their explanation. EDIT: I’m just reporting what I saw on their page. I have no opinion on it, but enjoy reading tech wiz’s opinions on it. TLDR of IGN’s explanation: “The...www.neogaf.com
Yeah, and play games from the ps3/360 era as a 4k black screen.Ps5 will use ps4 pro settings and boost them
XSS will use xb1 assets often at 900p and boost them
Shame, if MS had given XSS more RAM memory, it could of used and boosted XB1X settings, but they were too tight.
I'm just gonna ask a dumb question because I'm dumb.“Xbox Series S was designed to be the most affordable next generation console and play next generation games at 1440P at 60fps. To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster load times and Auto HDR.”
More in the article here
Yes and some they have brewing in the Microsoft research and development lab like hdr. I would not be shocked to see machine learning upscaling of BC games since there is plenty of horsepower left over and frame time.I'm just gonna ask a dumb question because I'm dumb.
XSX will apply X1X improvements to original XB1 games?
I really can't find a word for so much ignorance.Have you seen Gears 5 running at 120fps on XSS? I have not seen it, can you provide a link? Was there a DF video?

At least we know PS4 had no BC because of Cell.....Knowing how weak the jaguars are and that i7's can't properly emulate cell games. We've known that for a century. It is not Sony intentionally denying you PS3 BC......It's one of the reasons they are attempting to give you remakes on the best PS2/PS3 games.....Which is much more on an investment financially, and the reward relative to graphics, cameras, gameplay even better as can be seen with Demon Souls and I assume many more......Resistance rumors et al....
So why don't these people just keep their PS4's and XBOX One's......Overwatch and Fortnite plays just fine there. Overwatch is 60fps on these consoles....Why spend another $299, when you are playing these games just fine on your old console.....

Just because MS can force it not to. The console is able to run 4K titles and they designed in a way they knew it could not run Xbox One X games in their intended profile. A mess of their own making...
I've said before, it's annoying the SS will miss out on features like increased draw distance. But anybody who cares will be getting a Series X anyway.
1440p isn't a thing really. I think 5 per cent or so of PC gamers have 1440p monitors. It's a good medium for supersampling and upscaling. You're right though, I should have said marketing it to people with 1080p screens. It’s being marketed as a 1440p machine. The Series S is the mass marketed next gen console for Microsoft.

Because people still want something new. They just don’t want to pay too much for it. People buy new cars when they’re old one works good enough. People take that new IPhone plan when they’re old one works fine. This examples can go on forever. They care, but not enough to pay a large price. The next gen hype sucks everyone in. Even casuals. The xss is their ticket to come along whether you consider next gen or not.Which begs the question, why would they even consider buying this machine for at least a couple of years.

Right, there's nothing wrong with it. But most of the benefits are practical - supersampling and upscaling. The only marketing potential outside the small amount of people who have screens at that resolution is that it's more than 1080p, and most the people buying it will only have 1080p screens. The headline is most definately mislead
Its a thing in that it does actually look a lot closer to 4k than 1080p than one might think.
Cant they prepare a separate Series S specific profile for backwards compatibility that updates all the old games to take advantage of the Series Ss specs??
If not this is pretty bad
It's crazy, but I never knew how important ram could be. I even forgot how much ram the One X had and how much the Series S has!My guess, and it is a guess, is that it is due to Ram allocation. One X allowed more ram allocation and it exceeds the S framebuffer. When you do this your minimum frame rates tank (compare 4GB vs 8GB cards). Games could be reworked to handle the smaller buffer and MS have said they are doing this for 1st party games.
The other thing is if devs are directly handling memory allocation and they point to a memory location that does not exist then it would likely crash.
So doesmy xbox 360. The cool thing was playing the enhanced version the one x is able to play.still plays 360 games....
Backwards compatibility is nice and all, but it's not a big feature.
the lack of disc drive is a problem. No used games, no 4k blu ray playback.FIFA and COD will be on current gen for a couple of iterations and MS committed to the same for their titles, so really if the casuals don't care about having the highest performance and just want to play the games at a good price - why upgrade?
Xbox one only plays a handful of 360 titles, or am I mistaken?Yeah, and play games from the ps3/360 era as a 4k black screen.
yes, you nailed it
Fanboys always have 2 very different points of view.
simply said:
So just let the series s be, what it is, a lower budget console. So people that can't pay for the bigger ones can still enjoy some good games. Graphics don't make games better, gameplay does. If you're only gaming because of graphics, buy a PC
I don't disagree.Total, absolute and radical disagreement. Backwards compatibility is THE feature. Just having the capability of playing my game library with better resolution and graphics it's a fundamental thing.
