Nintendo Direct 2/17

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
They showed botw2 two years ago

Rule of thumb. Never show anything this early if it is still like 5 years away.
I think they changed their plans..

In 2019 when they first showed BotW2, they said it was re-using the same setting and assets from BotW1. Obviouslly this has changed.

I don't believe that a game which was supposed to use the same engine and assets from the previous one, can't be shown two years later. They have probably changed their minds.. about what they were gonna do with that game. Almost guaranteed.

Skyward Sword always brings out the salt.

Ya me too. The older style Zelda games are comfort food for me, looks like it's 60fps too.

The triangle strategy was a nice surprise, and we got a demo! Everything else was kind of meh... Lot of old games and things that are just not for me... Curious to see more about splatoon 3, but it feels soo far... And the Zelda moment was hype and dissapointment in the same sentence :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I think considering the focus was on the first half of 2021 and I'm sure their 2020 development was destroyed by COVID, it was a pretty good "regrouping" effort. We'll need to see what the big hitters are later this year.

As a big Zelda fan, I find Skyward Sword offensive to look at. It's such a huge step back from both Windwaker and Twilight Princess.

I think they'd be better off just letting people forget this one.

The Octopath X Final Fantasy Tactics game made the show for me. Too bad it's 2022.

Are you serious? Showing unfinished shit early is never a good look.
They showed a trailer of content we aren't even sure is from the new game.

Even by this dumbass logic of 5 years, it's only been 2 years. Anouma said they would announce something this year, and they would still have 3 years to develop.

So what exactly is the complaint? That it takes a long time to make a AAA videogame?

Was interested until it was Splatoon 3. I thought it was going to be a post apocalyptic spin off third person shooter.

Same. The intro was interesting and the city was impressive, I would like to see Nintendo try something like a co-op RPG/shooter somehow using Splatoon mechanics. (Maybe there still is a Story Mode of some type, but it can't be that big as an alt play mode for a game designed around online consumption.)

As is, this is Splatoon: Battle Royale? Fun, and it makes sense how this will be a sequel, but I was intrigued by it being something different.

1 and a half years waiting for a GARBAGE Direct.

What a shit show. The Switch is showing it's age. Horrible resolutions and framerates.

Nothing shown was a "blockbuster" of any sort. Splattoon 3 could have been a DLC.

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD was PREDICTABLE.

If there's *ANY* possible silver lining to this shit show is that IMO Nintendo is holding back major release announcements or "first looks" for the BADLY NEEDED Nintendo Switch Pro.

Think I'll be packing up my Switch or selling it at this point. I'll grab the next system when/if Nintendo announces it. As for the Switch, I had my fun with it but going forward.....
I'll hold out for the revision/Pro model.
But why would you even buy a newer Switch?

Since the Wii: Nintendo have been the masters of the 2- 3 years of top tier games and then you start getting the Mario Sports games.

Goddamn that was abysmal. Nintendo moving on to 3ds and Wii ports would be hilarious if it wasnt so pathetic. The Smash pass continues to be a bust, and it's kind of hard to be excited for a Splatoon 3 announcement when Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, and BotW2 are still MIA.

Legend of Mana is awesome assuming they fix coop and the FDC remakes should be great assuming they dont find a way to screw them up.

I love SS but I'm not seeing any reason to not just stick with my Wii copy.

Oddly enough Square might have had the best showing here especially with how good Project Triangle Strategy looks.

Glad I missed this live and could skip over most of it.

The only thing that looked great was the Triangle Strategy thing, which will probably come to PC eventually like Octopath. Looks great and seems just like the sort of game I've wanted since they weebed the hell out of Fire Emblem.

Skyward Sword Hd is ok I guess. I've always wanted to try it out. I'll have to wait for some used copies though, I refuse to pay $60 for a basic port of a 10 years old game.

Monster Hunter Rise and Bravely Default 2 give me hope for now. Rise especially looks amazing.

I want Breath of the Wild 2. It has been 2 years now with zero to show for it.

did nintendo stop making new first party games? All they seem to put out is fucking re releases. We used to have an actual new kirby game like every other year now weve had one plus boring downloadable spin offs. So many franchises are just being neglected except for safe mario sports games.

I guess the lack of LGBTQ movie games made some snoy fans upset.

While this is a lot of games I still wonder what Nintendo's first party studios are working on, considering we have seen quite a few first party and indie showcases, I thought this direct would have a lot more Nintendo announcements, as we know there has been a huge impact from the global pandemic, so I thought stuff delayed from last year would be shown, looks like Nintendo have been affected by this more than we thought.

Of course for the masses still buying the console it will make little difference, and the console will do massive numbers again this year as the momentum is still with it. Hopefully those shadow drops from Nintendo based on specific title will still be a thing, and we have a lot more stuff for the second half of the year.

On a more positive note the Mario golf game looked good.

Who would of thought gaming would have a slow start in 2021 coming off the worst Pandemic in modern history where the entire world was shut off for months?
You know, you’re right. I think Nintendo is even claiming retroactive COVID to explain Metroid’s vanishing act.

bayo 3 doesn't exist anymore, for the other two, most likely
It exists, but it's not coming anytime soon i feel, like Fall 2022 at soonest from what i can tell considering that even Splatoon 3 is 2022.

I said before that Bayo will come with Nintendo Next gen console launch, but i didn't though i'd be that right lol

From all games companies IMO Nintendo was the most affected from COVID situation.

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."

That was a year ago and they've had time to make them (n95's are easy to get and give your workforce, especially if they're at home).

I guess they're still adapting from COVID. You know, Nintendo always late to the party. Their online structure still last gen of all.

nah, it's just nintendo being nintendo
they do their best only when they are cornered..otherwise they just repeat the same series of games over and over and over, and over

also now they discovered that they can just re-release shit, barely touch it and still sell it for full price, so it's open season now

Aaah, post-Direct disappointment. Now that’s my GAF!

Legend of Mana was a nice surprise. That new FF Tactics that they’re totally going to call FF Tactics Something looks very nice.

As for the bigger projects, it’s quite obvious all of them took a big hit from lockdowns.

Bayonetta 3 was announced years ago. Metroid PRIME 4 was restarted in 2019. I think Nintendo just doesn't have the studios to handle the demand of the switch. Which with all of 3DS developers and home console developers being under one roof is really puzzling covid or not.

Also skyward sword is 60, we got 3 mario games last year for that, we got a mario game + expansion for that, I love SS even more than wind waker (fight me) but I'm not shelling out 60 for that. How can they do zelda like this........

after prime 4, it's the secod time nintendo gets on screen to tell us that the news is that there's no news..i don't know if to be happy for the transparency or pissed off by the fake

What an extremely stale and uninteresting showcase, unless you’re under 12 years old.

Nothing with Nintendo appears exciting or new anymore, everything is just rehash and rehash, and the usual “lets recycle something from a few generations ago and being it to the current platform” that they’ve been doing forever.

I mean, I guess if the kids keep buying it then take the Disney approach and keep on milking and milking the same cow.

Count me out, for now.

That direct was not good, i can't figure out how the switch is selling as well as it is. Is it because of covid lockdowns lends itself to portable play? Cause it sure as shit isnt first party nintendo games. Nintendos development pipeline is nonexistent. They can ride it out for awhile it seems, but eventually people are going to be looking some where else for you know, games.

The Switch has been selling awesome units since launch, so the pandemic would have helped in the last year, but obviously had no effect in the previous ones to that, i guess the console has lots of momentum and that will not change anytime soon, no matter how we personally feel about this direct, as to potential Switch customers it's a cool console with loads of games available for it.

Thanks for compiling a list, I'm using it to put down some thoughts.

-Pyra+Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are in Smash - Hell yeah, this is a good addition. Suck it sword-haters. Kinda funny they had to censor Mythra though.
-Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir & The Girl Who Stands Behind (May.14th)
- Might check this out
-Mario Golf: Super Rush (June.25th)
- I'll probably definitely buy this, I put a lot of hours in Toadstool Tour. The game is looking good already.
-No More Heroes 3 (Aug.27th)
- Sure looks like a NMH game! That's all I wanted!
-Neon White (Winter 2021)
- Actually looks interesting? But I need a gameplay explanation, looks like they're trying a new type of card battle game or something.
-Miitopia (May.21st)
- Honestly wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being a sleeper hit.
-Project Triangle Strategy (2022) [Demo Available Today]
- Looks very promising! If I didn't have a ton of stuff to play atm I'd probably be playing that demo at this very moment.
-World's End Club (May.28th)
- Was excited for something in the vein of Zero Escape, but then it threw a curveball....I dunno...
-Bravely Default II (Feb.26th)
- Already had my eye on it.
-BotW2 News planned later this year
- Sure. I'd prefer not to hear details until the game is close to release. I already know I'm going to buy it.
-The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD (July.16th)
- Probably passing on this, I just replayed the game not too long ago. I knew it wasn't going to be Zelda 64 HD collection or anything but this is a pretty lukewarm offering. Good for those who are allergic to motion controls I guess.
-Splatoon 3 (2022)
- Wow, I wasn't expecting another Splatoon on Switch. I'll be there! Kind of surprised they announced a game for next year.

People are asking for Dante and Sora but those characters are also sword users and Pyra/Mythra was long time coming.

Skyward Sword looks infinitely better than Twilight Princess.
TP is literially the most generic looking game in the whole franchise. Also the most generic 3D-Zelda in general.
why would anyone fight you? WW is the worst 3d zelda
Misspelled Twilight Princess buddy.
