This affects physical games too, if the console is not authenticated then it will refuse to play disc based games too.But but I'm digital only and swapping dics is so hard.
(I'm looking at my retail copies and laughing about you.)

Meh. It's a negative, but it's way too exaggerated. It's the way of Social media so whatever.
At least far into the future if this happens to mine, I can just open it up, replace battery, close it up, done. No soldering involved. That's good enough to me.
You think it is reasonable to expect all Sony game servers to be shut down in 5 years? What if in the next 5 years or so Sony shut down the servers for any reason? You'll have a( U$500+U$ of your games) paper weigh.
To me the concern is reasonable.
Blow my mind that people are throwing a tantrum over what might happen decades in the future. It blows my mind that people are letting Sony off the hook for this. Consider this, Sony designed it so that PHYSICAL games wouldn't work either.
MIGHT? Sony won't leave their servers up forever. It will happen sooner or later. You think it is reasonable to expect all Sony game servers to be shut down in 5 years?
LOL how do these threads still exist? Just people going insane over bs rumors.
Blow my mind that people are throwing a tantrum over what might happen decades in the future.
Saturn is a well designed console. Battery is accessible from the back of the console, does not require opening, and can be changed easily. You lose your saves (that's why you have a memory card, action replay or whatever), and that's it.I have had to replace my CMOS battery in my Saturn about two years ago.
It blows my mind that people are letting Sony off the hook for this. Consider this, Sony designed it so that PHYSICAL games wouldn't work either.
The problem is that they designed it this way in the first place. Also, they will shut down the servers sooner or later.5 months ago, people were complaining about the PlayStation 5's SSD being soldered to the motherboard while the Xbox Series X SSD was not.
What did they say?
"If the Xbox Series X SSD goes down, you can open up and replace it easily." But now people want to complain about replacing a battery (which is much easier, mind you) to replace a battery if anything goes wrong.
It's not about letting "Sony off the hook" it's just the simple fact that it's not a problem. People are sitting here worried that the PlayStation Network will go down within the next 15 years, rendering their console useless. That's right, Sony's last console will be a PlayStation 6 and they will turn off disable their entire network.
When you say severs, do you mean PSN or multiplayer severs? The problem is that they designed it this way in the first place. Also, they will shut down the servers sooner or later.
You guys have convinced me. I am going to worry over this "issue" for the next 30 years.Saturn is a well designed console. Battery is accessible from the back of the console, does not require opening, and can be changed easily. You lose your saves (that's why you have a memory card, action replay or whatever), and that's it.
For the PS5, you have to open the console. When the battery dies in the PS5, even after you change the battery, you will have to connect to the internet to access your digital games again. And I would not bet that in 30 years, the required services will still be online to activate this.
Come on!!! Isn't that hard to understand what i've said. You think it is reasonable to expect all Sony game servers to be shut down in 5 years?
LOL how do these threads still exist? Just people going insane over bs rumors.
Blow my mind that people are throwing a tantrum over what might happen decades in the future.
I mean whatever server is used for authentication. Let me ask you something, why do you think Sony designed it NOT TO PLAY physical games if the authentication server can't be reached after changing the CMOS battery? When you say severs, do you mean PSN or multiplayer severs?
Because you would have to be making stuff up if you think Sony is going to close down PSN.
And what's so hard about changing the battery every 10 years?
Sony's been silent about pretty much all the rumors.Come on!!! Isn't that hard to understand what i've said.
What is reasonable is the concern about the CMOS problem. What was the hard part to understand a "What if scenario"?
It is a rumor? Yes, it is. But the silence of Sony about that concerns me. I Still have my Super Nintendo (SNES) fully working (30 years after it's release) along side with some of my games that use the same type of battery. Have lost some saves, but the games are fully working. And I play these games from time to time, My PS1 and PS2 too. I really what to know if my games on PS4 and PS5 (if some day i buy that) will works independently of Sony's servers.
You can on PlayStation too. If the battery that lasts 20-30 years is still alive.I love how people try to justified a bad news for PlayStation... When you can't play Xbox games on XSX/One without internet connexion.
Yes!Do you even play your SNES?
What are you even talking about?I mean whatever server is used for authentication. Let me ask you something, why do you think Sony designed it NOT TO PLAY physical games if the authentication server can't be reached after changing the CMOS battery?
I think you should know,Yes!
It won't play physical games either if you change the CMOS battery and can't reach the authentication server. Still ok with it?What are you even talking about?
All you fanboys here defending this terrible practice should be ashamed of yourselves. A corporation doesn't love you and no amount of taking it up the ass for your favorite toy will make them love you. You bought a game, you have every right to play it whenever you want. A flaw in design of the console should be fixed, not defended.
To avoid cheating with the TrophiesI mean whatever server is used for authentication. Let me ask you something, why do you think Sony designed it NOT TO PLAY physical games if the authentication server can't be reached after changing the CMOS battery?
Do you think Trophy integrity is worth bricking a console? To avoid cheating with the Trophies
So let me ask you this,It won't play physical games either if you change the CMOS battery and can't reach the authentication server. Still ok with it?
When life comes at you fast LOOOOL
Sony's been silent about pretty much all the rumors.
And all the rumors been proven wrong.
Do you even play your SNES?
These fake concern are getting boring.
The PS5 will most likely stop working before the battery dies.
And by then everyone will be flocking to the PS6.
We all know eventually all game services will be similar to Netflix in the next 20 years, so I don't get the reason for this thread.
It has to be updated by the authentication server. So let me ask you this,
If you take your PS5 to get the battery changed,
Is it hard to also get the time fucking updated?
Fake concerns everywhere.
So what's the issue with just getting the battery changed and updating the time?Yes, I do play my Super Nintendo.
One of my GOAT is a Super Nintendo game (Chrono Trigger), also I have a Copy of Mega Man and Forte and that is the only non portable machine where I can play it hooked on my TV. Also, to me, the best version of Final Fantasy VIII is the one on PSX.
And even if that were not the case, I've invested my money on my consoles, and as I just don't have a Money Tree, I really want that my consoles lives as much as possible. If it have a hardware failure, i'll try to fix it. Is there a problem about it?
And you really think the authentication server is going to get closed one day?It has to be updated by the authentication server.
So are you ok with it being designed to not even play physical games if you change the CMOS battery and can't reach the authentication server.
You are all over the place and it seems like you are only learning the facts as you go. You also won't answer this question (third time):And you really think the authentication server is going to get closed one day?
The same server that is tied to PS+ games, that is also tied to PSN.
Yea sure bud.
You are all over the place and it seems like you are only learning the facts as you go. You also won't answer this question (third time):
So are you ok with it being designed to not even play physical games if you change the CMOS battery and can't reach the authentication server.
Ok. That's seems reasonable. So what's the issue with just getting the battery changed and updating the time?
It's like getting your console fixed after all.
So which concerned citizen is going to make the xbox cbomb thread lol
You are all over the place and it seems like you are only learning the facts as you go. You also won't answer this question (third time):
So are you ok with it being designed to not even play physical games if you change the CMOS battery and can't reach the authentication server.
I give up.Ok. That's seems reasonable.
But if for any reason I can't have access to internet? I'll have a paperweight and I should be happy with it?
You should, atleast until you get all the facts.I give up.
I give up.
I give up because reasoning with you is like talking to a sheep. You should, atleast until you get all the facts.
You still never answered my question and I have to wonder why.I give up because reasoning with you is like talking to a sheep.
I give up because reasoning with you is like talking to a sheep.
Another person without all the facts. No shit Sherlock!!
How else is the system going to remember they are your games unless your online?????
Replace the battery and move on with your life!!
Think about it. While US residents pay only U$500 for PS5, where I live it cost U$834 and it when Sony sell's to us. Americans complains about scalpers. Scalpers where I live, sell's a PS5 around U$1587 USD.
Being a sheep is accept a bad thing that might hurts you in the future, it does not metter if in one year or 20 years in the future.
I love how people try to justified a bad news for PlayStation... When you can't play Xbox games on XSX/One without internet connexion.
Don't need to jailbreak the PS2 or earlier to play it today. Shouldn't need to jailbreak the PS3 or later to play it in a decade either.Okay when you feel the urge to find and play on your dusty ass PS3 when you're old and crippled, and MAYBE Sony has completely removed online connectivity
Just jailbreak the damn thing
Don't need to jailbreak the PS2 or earlier to play it today. Shouldn't need to jailbreak the PS3 or later to play it in a decade either.
Oh really. Please explain then! Seems kind of what I saidAnother person without all the facts.
Why would there be online requirements for physical games? We didn't have online requirements for games back then either
Times change. Deal with it and move on
