Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
DF confirms again that the Control launch issues relating to the stutters on Series consoles have been fixed and not because of any game patch. It's thanks to the OS level updates.

Another fascinating point and I wonder how many of the older games where SX had worse performance than PS5 are improved now.

Well the comparisons have surprised me in a good way over the past year. Not to mention as developers get more used to these systems they will be able to squeeze more out of them. Which is something I'm seeing with both platforms.

PS5 got a Firmware update boost. Control was boosted.

Alex talking about control at the start.

Very interesting what he says here.

When you did look at those fps differentials it was more aligning with the tflop compute differentials we see between xsx and ps5 and perhaps that points out the fact that, that was in the ray tracing mode , so that one's uh in the way RDNA2 works there's a lot of compute thats going on there, other cross gen games where we might of seen s more wish washy performance and it was really hard to say which one was better or even ps5 was winning , in a lot of these ways winning quote unquote I mean its really not that important at the end of the day, um but you know when I think when compute is going to be leveraged more and I think that is the general tendency in graphics these days over time is more compute being leveraged and less so the speed of fixed function hardware which is the advantage the PS5 has, I think we'll start to see some more returns on the XSX side.

Wait, one hour and half of ""Kind of"" ""Kind of"" ""Kind of"" ""Kind of"" ""Kind of"" ""Kind of"" ""Kind of"" ""Kind of""
I agree, plaese a summary from a kind person please.
I watched through most if it, but skipped some parts. It’s just a recap of the year, lots of power hype, bad Xbox launch, felt like Xbox One X or worse, great PS launch, DS is awesome, Miles Morales is great too, great RT, great end of the year on Xbox, bad end of the year on PS, 60fps is awesome, fps boost is fantastic, about 80% of the games are 60fps now in some way or form, the SSD are great even though they might not be as awesome as we first thought, Halo still don’t deliver on visuals but the game is great, Matrix demo is too awesome, we can’t go back, 60fps might not be possible and we could see consoles going back to 30fps, hopefully more devs try use 40fps on 120hz screen to make it slightly better.

Something like that. If you’ve been here you already know it all.

They didn't say that nor did they shit on quick resume, but then again misquoting DF points isn't anything new from you Frank :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Which part of what you quoted am I supposedly misquoting? The part about quick resume or the part about PS5 boost?
PS5 boost I never said they said. You made a post with a hypothetical but the PS5 got a similar update and control was one of the games included as being affected.
The QR quote absolutely . It’s from 1:15:42-1:17:30.

still watching it. major comments till 24min in:

* XBOX was not able to show the power difference in games against PS5

* Sony SSD speed doesn't look to be fully utilized based on the tests they did with slower SSDs

* Sony was able to show what PS5 is capable of by releasing games.

* XSX launch was poor as it had no software to show off.

* Early game comparison become similar to what came after (except for few cases here and there, both consoles performed similar)

* they were surprised that these consoles had RT, and were impressed by Spiderman MM implementation

Sorry guys, but I don't think I can continue doing it.

John "You do have quick resume on Xbox, mitigated to a degree but we found out it doesn't work well with a lot of the new games"
Alex "I mean, it's great when it works but at the same time it would be nice to see MS implement something similar as a policy (RE: logos only showing 1st boot)"

Look at all that shitting.

Never change Frank .. never change :D

It's not a hypothetical, DF has said the same thing in 2 different videos now and at least in the other one they've shown game play clips along with their commentary.

You may not want to believe it for whatever reason, but it is fact that Control's performance and stutters have improved over time and the game hasn't received any patches which would have done that. It's because of something on the OS level.

Here's video 2:

This is going to be good. First clown already exposed misquoting for bait 🤣🤣

The funniest thing is, that segment about QR is in the final 10% of the video, so he quickly skimmed through the video, thought he found a "gotcha" and posted it here before anyone even had a chance to watch the full video :D

It's really amazing what lengths folks do for internet clout.

They saw slight FPS improvements on PS5 as well due to system firmware updates in several games despite the game not being patched (I think it was in their PS5 model revision video). Kinda curious they didn’t mention it in this video.

The net gains doesn’t seem to be as big as in the Xbox case though, and in Controls case they have indeed said it is now the better version.

But it begs the question how different these games would behave on both platforms if they were to redo their comparisons.

Yeah, "ALEX IS A XBOX SPY" in 3,2,1.

But for those generally interested, what he says here does make a lot of sense. Where the XSX's higher compute will see bigger gains because its the direction of the industry.
Are we prediciting in future games to be more compute heavy than matrix tech demo ? :d

Exactly, in a purely academic sense this is interesting and I think the first time in my recent memory that I have heard of cases that system level updates are improving game performance without the game itself getting patched (and not in a "Boost mode" sense).

It would be nice to revisit some of the earlier "trouble" games like AC Valhalla now. But I reckon that would be a massive effort on DF's part they won't have time for.

Yup, I won’t hold my breath when it comes to redoing comparisons. DF have too much shit on their table already, and I have barely seen Richard in all year. Most comparisons have been with Tom, someone I barely consider part of the core team of DF.

It just removed the stutters, so you're unlikely to see any performance increase in older games.
