That's a disgusting scene but it sucks that they've been censored by Sony who have multiple games with similar content as well.

I'll likely never play this but I don't think devs/artists should have their work altered because "muh kids". Fuck that noise.

Can’t say I disagree really, I love TLOU2 but a lot of stuff was very graphic.

I did a vote with my wallet thing on that one, I saw the torture trailer way back at the unveil and noped my way out of that title and swore to never pay for it. I loved the first game but enough is enough. I don’t know what’s the deal with the current ND, maybe it’s just Druckmann having a dark mind. I just finished Lost Legacy and it was awesome, one of my fav playthroughs so far on PS5, a jolly good fun action adventure with some hot ladies as main characters. I can only imagine how such a game would’ve been if ND made it today. I doubt we’d have that nice sunset scene at the end or the pizza scene at the credits.

The game even had a game character getting reamed up the ass like a studio made a digital porn clip on pornhub.

Sony seemed fine with it.

Funny how Sony third party studios get censored but internal studios are anything goes. Capcom even had to censor out an innocent bum shot in DMC. It wasnt even a torture scene or anything. That's when games were going ape shit with studios doing that blinding light streak to cover up stuff.

I think that what I find equally upsetting about this is that it's becoming such a big deal everyone can agree on, but when sexualized content gets censored then suddenly a lot of the same people either go silent or defend the censorship.
With violence people seem to understand that censorship is bad all of the sudden.

My own sensibilities are pretty easy as far as that goes. Don't sexualize kids, anything else is fair game. Even toasters... especially toasters.

Where do you draw the line with violence in video games? What would be considered too much and where would the line be drawn?

The game is rated M. For mature. If you can't handle it, don't play it.

The developers describe the content like this:
“Martha Is Dead is only recommended for an adult audience and is not recommended for players who may find depictions containing blood, dismemberment, disfigurement of human bodies, minor nudity, and self-harm disturbing."

Why is anyone playing the game if you are not competent enough to read that?

Anyway, back to playing Dying Light 2 where I'm chopping people's heads off and dismembering limbs...

Martha Is Dead is a narrative adventure recommended for adult audiences only, with play consisting of potentially discomforting scenes and themes that may distress some players. Both Wired Productions and LKA have always been open and honest about Martha Is Dead content, with the sensitive depictions in play consistently communicated to the media since the game was announced in 2019. This content is also flagged clearly and repeatedly within the game itself before play begins.

>It is with regret that we have had to modify the experience on the PS5 and PS4 versions, with some elements no longer playable. After over four years of passion and hard work, Developer LKA now requires extra time to make these unplanned changes. Martha Is Dead, as a result, will still launch digitally on both PS5 and PS4 on Thursday, February 24th, 2022, but the physical retail release will be delayed to a yet to be disclosed date; although we anticipate this to only be a small number of weeks. Our physical edition will still contain the bonus content of a double-sided poster, digital tarot cards and Martha Is Dead Digital EP. We will update players with the date we ship this edition as soon as we have the information.

The PC and Xbox versions of Martha Is Dead are both unaffected by these developments and will launch with the full unedited gameplay as planned.

We look forward to players experiencing the work of LKA on Thursday February 24th, 2022.

The only problem I see with that video is that the lady playing is about 2 times fatter than she promotes herself in the thumbnail lol.
The gore is no more shocking than Mortal Kombat which got really gross with latest entries

Small dev goes for shock value to get more publicity.

Succeeds beyond wildest dreams.

I’ll probably buy this myself now, whereas I’d never even have heard of it otherwise.

Haha people acting offended at this must be the kind of people that get freaked out by jumpscares and loud noises in modern horror films, or find cgi super hero movies to be amazing. Think of the children! Haha, never mind all the absolute genocide and torture occurring in most modern entertainment and a little skin suit is enough to throw in the towel. We live in the age of the snowflake, most would starve and die if they had to hunt, kill and prep their own food. We are wearing their f'ing skin for Christ's sakes not to mention the countless other uses in food prep and research, industry etc. But muh baby! Stay the hell away from Brutal Death Metal if you're that sensitive, wouldn't last a microsecond before fainting and then ranting on their precious socials.

One its most likely a stunt to get some coverage and word of mouth, and two its art and can be provocative and offensive. Second I find people's supposed concern over this and not real life atrocities to be far more disgusting. The Epstein operation, children being used as aides in illegal migration along the southern boarder, grooming, organ harvesting, genital mutilation etc. But holy shit guys a video game! Let's virtue signal the hell out this. And ignore the massive cultural genocide, rape and torture going on in China. Screw that right? Let me just text from my overpriced cellphone made by some slaves in a factory that has "safety" netting to stop the workers from committing suicide about some goofy shock-horror vidyagaem.

Sony has no problem with gore and stuff, many games on PS feature it. It has to be with age rating and the regulation for retailers form USA, not with Sony.

When a game is digital only, the publisher can get the age rating certification from many regions via IARC, a cheap and fast method that isn't too strict and gives them basically what the publisher ask for.

But if later they want to release a game in retail in USA they must get a proper, more strict and expensive ESRB certification process for retail copies. And retailers in USA can't display on their stores ESRB AO games to children, which means publishers in many cases see they are going to get -or get- a ESRB AO rating, and decide to tone down the content of the game to get ESRB 17 because that would mean that retailers from USA would buy it and display it on their stores.

Typically the publishers make this self censorship for all versions, or in some cases for the only versions that will be published on retail (in many cases they only release it on retail for PS, so the PS version is the only censored one). In other cases, they only censor it for the country affected, as it is the case of all gore games released in Japan on retail (Japanese versions are censored, as happens with all the Resident Evil games for all platforms).

The game is Rated M and is releasing on PC and Xbox with zero issues. There is no excuse for Sony.

Are the PC and Xbox versions released for retail or digital only? Because the ESRB process isn't the same.

The publisher of the game is the one who decides its content, not the platform holder. And Sony has no problem with gore because there are plenty of gore games on PS.

They don't need an excuse, people can disagree and they can do what they want. I think there is a problem with ESRB with the range of M rated games. While its fun for people to argue about this online, it's not a game many will care about and considering what is being censored I don't think it's too unreasonable.

So just because it isn't a major game its OK if Sony pushes regressive, hypocritical censorship? People just have to "accept" it? Nah, fuck that. Sony deserves to be called out for this bullshit just as Nintendo was for literal decades. Hell, speaking of Nintendo they actively allow the uncensored versions of games Sony loves to deem "problematic". When you are actively doing worse than Nintendo in terms of censorship, you fucked up. You fucked up *hard*.

Lots of concern about censorship lately and most of it is alarming. I don't personally think cutting someone's face off and wearing it is part of that trend though, nor do I excuse other restrictions by Sony which I'm not convinced are related to this. Ultimately all consoles are curated content and this game found a line. Is it on Nintendo Switch? Nintendo's stance on censorship serves them well and parents trust their band especially for younger kids. If you want to experience extreme degeneracy a video game console is really not the place.

So just because *you* are easily triggered by a HORROR GAME, one that isn't even as bad as other major games released on the platform, some BY THE CONSOLE MANUFACTURER - its perfectly acceptable to have censorship? Even when other platforms can play the game with *zero* censorship? Adults can't decide what they want or don't want to experience, instead you think a company should tell that for you?

Also Nintendo has actively been having rated M games with no problems. They have, ever since cleaning house of their regressive Treehouse staff that actively censored large swaths of games on the Wii U/3DS systems, stopped needlessly censoring their games. They have made a *lot* more money because, guess what? Adults can decide if something is for them or not. Censored games actively hinder the product more often than not.

But hey, since it triggered *you* then censorship is A-OK.

lol, this game doesn't trigger me, no reason to make this personal

You didn't answer me on if Nintendo has this game, which they don't.

Sony not wanting this content on their platform is not controlling what you can experience as an adult. I can easily name some fucked up things that would not be allowed on any console or storefront, consoles are by design walled guardians. Unrestricted access is on PC and I'm not talking about Steam.

Bro, parents autopilot to Mario and Pokémon, that doesn’t say anything about the rest of the lineup. Nintendo also makes incredibly high quality games yet allows the worst possible thrash on the eShop. One doesn’t have anything to do with the other.

So do you think Sony should just let anything on their console? Where should the line be?

We wonder why things are the worst they've ever been. When people can stand around and shrug their shoulders as things continue to degrade, and pretend any criticism or complaints is ludicrous console warring bullshit. Keep your nihilistic no-fucks-given attitude to yourself. It should be easy since you apparently don't care about anything, Mr Shrugs.

Anything that is AO, like has always been the fucking case prior to 2016. It isn't a hard thing to understand.

Walled Gardens, is the term you are looking for. Doesn't excuse hypocritical selective censorship when the rating was already given to be below AO.

What do you mean "worse than they've ever been"? The few pages of this thread I read were full of petty console warring. It seemed like OP opened the thread expecting that. Did you see the content that was cut? It's pretty vile and why wouldn't it be within anyone's right to block whatever content they don't agree with on platforms they are responsible for. What do you expect? And how does your trivial insult further the discourse?

If I hurt your feelings so badly, you could have used the ignore feature to protect yourself. It feels like you're projecting pretty hard, maybe seek counselling?

Mate, you are the console warrior. You would be calling this shit out if it was literally any other console, but since its Playstation you are desperate to defend it.

Censorship this day and age is a HUGE fucking problem, when it comes to lines in the sand worth fighting for this Ain’t it

”Censorship is a problem, unless it is something that triggers me!”

I doubt the violence will get censored, it’s just monsters. It’s the sexy protagonist you should be worried about there. For some reason the modern audience can get awfully triggered if they have to look at a sexy woman, let’s hope Jimbo is old school and let it pass.

Except Sony is not the publisher of the game, so they shouldn't care if the game gets banned. It is simply not their responsibility.

People saying that they understand Sony's decision, it is ok to think that. But you still shouldn't accept this breach of artistic freedom. It is another shitty move by Sony, especially because they seem to play favorites when choosing which games to censor or not.
Oh I do think Sony cares because of the shitstorm mentality of today. Parents will see it as Sonys fault … somehow.

I would favor them not to force this on anyone myself. We just don’t know enough about the ins and outs of this case.

Yeah, it’s all backwards, I’m not wired the same way as the modern audience that’s for sure.

Someone asked where we draw the line…

Western gaming in a nutshell:

Violence: There is no line. It’s not real, it’s just polygons. And parents should obviously keep their kids away from games for adults.

Sex: Oh My God look at those shameful curves and tight clothes! Remove that awful content at once you filthy bastard! What if a kid would see that!? Or your wife?!? They’d be scarred for life!! Ban the game! Ban the dev!!

Saw the offending scene. It didn't look like a baby to me and yeah, it was rather graphic but as worse then torturing a person in gta V or mowing down a bunch of people as a terrorist in cod? I am not 100% sure.

Aye. It's weird how everyone has all of a sudden become terrified of boobs.
It’s everything, breasts, butt, hips, hourglass figure, feminine facial features, typical clothes for women. I’ve tried to have the discussions, in short my conclusion is that female characters needs to look more like men, wear clothes like men and behave more like men, to be realistic or something. I’ll never understand where it comes from. Some say it’s feminism but the biggest feminist I know is freakishly beautiful and wear figure hugging 50s dresses, so I don’t know.

But this is off topic, sorry OP
