Come on guys and gals and everyone in between, where the hell is the hype train?!

Even last year (which I thought was a bit crap overall) had a respectable level of hype. Maybe we're all just exhausted from COVID life and we've all become miserable bastards (I know I have) but....... surely there has to be something to get excited about?

I set up a poll so you can predict how satisfied you'll be and then maybe we can all come back to this thread in a month or so and see whether you were correct.

For me I'm going to say 5/10.

I think the Playstation event (whenever it is) will be decent (maybe a borderline 7/10) but I think it will be overshadowed by a shit showing from Xbox (3/10) and I expect the Summer Game Fest to (as last time) be a massive bunch of fluff, waffle (and doritos) and Geoff Keighley jerking himself off and include maybe one or two genuinely exciting game announcements. I suppose it depends on taste/preference, I'm not interested in Elden Ring at all so last year's SGF was a write off in my books.

Feel free to give an overall rating and then individual conference/event ratings. I haven't kept up with which companies are actually doing something so I'm keeping mine simple:

Overall:
5/10

Playstation - 7/10
Xbox - 3/10
Nintendo - 6/10
Summer Game Fest - 4/10

Note that I'm not giving equal weighting so that's not an average of the four scores.

What exactly should we be hype for? Even the industry and advertisers (the main reason for past e3s) aren't promoting anything. It's not our fault for not getting excited about literally nothing.

I even fall into the category of people that miss e3. I miss the cringe, the industry bs, all of it. But it's dead.

I care about the new announcements, but not enough to watch it live. I'll just watch all the trailers & announcements once its over.

To be fair they're almost all pre-recorded now anyway so that gives me even less motivation to watch it live (that's before the time difference issue).

In 2022 the real way to enjoy E3 is after the fluffed up filler cringe talking bits by going to your favourite gaming site AFTER the show ends, it saves you time and disappointment.
Makes you wonder whether people would really be that bothered if, say, Sony didn't even have a "conference" or "livestream" and just uploaded a bunch of new reveal trailers etc. on their Youtube page instead.

If they uploaded them all at once, I think people would be happy, shitty devs that are relying on a captive audience sandwiching their pure shit in between great games wouldn’t be happy though.

I don't expect crazy reveals but there's at least one game per console I'm interested in, so there's that at least.

Xbox - Starfield
Playstation - Final Fantasy XVI
Nintendo - Bayonetta 3
Bayonetta 3

You might be disappointed, but honestly if they don’t show it as this point its really canceled or going to next Nintendo gen console.

As much as I want a Bayonetta 3 I’d rather it not look like pure shit, so I kind of hope it’s being delayed for a machine with actual power.

If you don't have any hype you can be pleasantly surprised if the "conferences" are good!

It's going to be amazing, 10/10 all around. There's actually potential for a lot of cool stuff to be shown.
FFXVI trailer already waiting for us.
...18? more sleeps. Eh, I'm more desperate than hyped at this point.

I’m still super-hyped for the Xbox Bethesda show. They’ve been quiet for a long time, hopefully it means they have some really cool things to show. And they know people want to see Starfield so I hope they show that even though it’s been delayed.

Geoff’s show is too unfocused though, I’ll look at some trailers afterwards when they pop up on the net.

For me the biggest game I’m hype for this year is Xenoblade 3 but we are getting info on that game almost daily, so I have not much to be hype about for E3 or whatever taking its place.

8/10 overall, expecting some bad stuff but mostly good.

I’m excited for all showcases. Hoping for a StarField blowout from MS, BotW2 trailer and official title from Nintendo and some news on Naughty Dog’s next game from Sony.

For real answer is that I think the big 3 will all have solid conferences as we'll be getting much more details on long awaited titles (BOTW2, Starfield, FFXVI, GOW:R, etc.), there are several long rumored/likely announcements(RE4R, Silent Hill stuff, Dragon's Dogma 2, new 3D Mario, etc.), and the general shifting industry trend towards shorter reveal to release windows gives hope some new games shown won't be that far off.

The aggregate score will probably be around 7/10 because of certain companies having useless/terrible "conferences" like EA, but if we're just looking at the big 3 then my expected aggregate score is around an 8.5-9.

It's still scheduled for a 2022 release, it was in Nintendo's financials a few weeks ago and we've already seen gameplay. It's coming, even if it gets delayed a bit.

Kinda hyped. Not looking forward for a lot of games, si that changing would be cool.

No E3 no hype, as simple as that. E3 was a festival of gaming, summer games fest is a cheap copy which nobody takes seriously. I hope next year we go back to live E3 conferences.
Does it really matter? At the end of the day your are still getting the same trailers you'd get on the E3.

The radio silence to me means they could show a lot of stuff at E3.
I am optimistic about a LOT of game reveals to be made this e3 with dates on 2024/25.

9/10 for me. Please be gameplay trailers.

Overall:
5/10

Playstation - 7/10
Xbox - 3/10
Nintendo - 6/10
Summer Game Fest - 4/10
Are you sure with Xbox 3/10 ?
I mean (if neglecting personal taste) I think MS is going to blow the roof with trailers and reveals with this E3.

I suppose the hype has dropped because of the recent spate of delays, to the point that many here believe everything will be delayed. What is clear though is that, as things stand, the rest of the year is looking pretty bleak, so I really hope some bangers are revealed to have a 2022 release date soon.

I'm done getting hyped for the slight possibility that something neat might happen.

Too often these shows are just mediocre at best, hyped up beyond belief but delivering one, maybe two cool experiences. E3 is dead and it's never coming back, the replacement shows dancing on its grave have never delivered on the hype like E3 did.

No one who knows how these things work gets blindly hyped anymore. At most I'm looking forward to seeing what might be announced but until then keeping expectations in check.

Wasn't E3 cancelled this year?

Anyway, in the modern gaming era there is no need for a show like the E3. Release trailers and demo is easier and cheap, and exclusives are less and less, so you see the same game everywhere, previously revealed in another presentation.

There's not much to be excited about because each and every year we're seeing less new game announcements at E3 (and its new replacement events).
Hell, last year most companies didn't even bother bringing their games in active development to their own little shows.

It just feels a bit outdated these days.

All I care about is gameplay footage, perhaps with a succinct presentation from a studio head/senior programmer.

Game awards was 10/10 for me, cause of sonic and a few others. If sonic frontiers gameplay is shown here, thatll be another 10 for me lol. But without the bias, itll prob be a 5.

Usually skeptical, but we haven't heard anything really from the big three (and big publishers as well) for a long time. They might be withholding a ton of surprises and announcements. Fingers crossed for actual gameplay.

Isnt it a good thing that very little has leaked?
Its been a while since ive gone in totally blind and excited to be surprised.
So im looking forward to this "E3" period.
Im bound to be surprised by every presentation.

The hype train will come as soon as Sony announces its showcase, whenever it is.

Apart from that, we will also see some hype if Ubisoft reveals Avatar's gameplay and release date or if Square Enix's reveals FFXVI gameplay and release date. Otherwise, all depends on Sony.

Why would I get hyped about indies? I'm sure there will be good ones but my hype is only reserved for big budget games which we will never see this year. Another dead year. I dont think 2023 will be any different. Feels like companies focus on the wrong things nowadays. Oh well. Was nice while it lasted.

Exactly. When was the last time Xbox has kept their soup coolers shut for 6 months? They gotta be preparing a great show.

E3 ended when booth babes got cancelled.

I was just talking to my coworker just a few hours ago about that reason to go to e3 back in the day :messenger_tears_of_joy:.

On topic, agreed about the lack of hype for E3 this time around. Still waiting for the announcements of the times of the conferences though.

On the prerecorded e3 topic. I actually like the fact that isn't some live action thing. I kinda wish that they would take advantage of it and do something amazing.

Because its not e3, it will be two months of haphazardly thrown togeather live streams that feature mostly indie games and cg trailers. Also, bethesda knee capped microsofts release calendar this year so its hard for me to give a shit

I like that Xbox is on a Sunday. Don't have to take off work so I'll 100% be watching it. Xbox had a great show last year, and they have a ton of studios that could possibly be showing things. At the very least, we'll get a roadmap for the back half of the year of Gamepass, with lots on the way. Plague Tale 2: Plague Harder, Midnight Fight Club, Replaced, and more. And I'm sure we'll see some gameplay for Starfield.

Nintendo delivers every single year, so I'm not worried about that one bit. Probably will get a small indie game shadow dropped the day of. Probably show Zelda and get a title. Probably show at least one more game releasing this year that we don't know about yet.

What's not to be excited about? Sony is probably going to show up with literally one trailer for God of War and maybe Stray at Summer Ad Fest. They don't seem to do much in the summer now.

Interested in any Zelda news and if the Arcade1Up leaks are true (Blitz and MvC2). Not holding my breath for either.
