So... Returnal releases tomorrow on PC. Who's getting it?

Seems like PlayStation is putting as much effort in promoting the release as they are preparing the next showcase.
The game is currently sitting 55th most wishlisted game on Steam which I know means nothing but in comparison, The Last of Us is 13th.

Personally I'm waiting for tech reviews since the game is build on UE4 and could potentially give Alex BarillaPasta™ a few white hair.
I'm also probably gonna save that money for The Last of Us in a little more than a month.

So GAF, who's getting it?

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
This one's for the backlog, I already got too much to handle with all of this month's releases.

I have it wishlisted tho so I'll make sure to try it down the line.

this game is a roguelike which is a genre PC gamers love
it's also difficult. PC gamers love difficult as hell games. and it lessens on the cinematics which PC gamers have no time for. I'd reckon this should sell really well

I think it'll do well at a cheaper price point than it launched at.

It’s gonna be interesting to see how this is received on PC. The only ”problem” as I see it is that the game might come off as a little too easy because M+KB will definitely make aiming a lot easier. Then on the other hand, it was deemed to hard by many on PS5 so it might be good in the end (personally I found it just right in terms of difficulty, it resulted in actually having to become more skillful as a player).

Edit: I should also add that if I’d had a good PC I’d easily buy the game again, it has so far been the game of this gen that left the biggest impression on me and made Housemarque one of those studios I follow closely.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Eventually, not now. Not with Hogwarts just out and so much other new shit on the horizon. Same for the MP remake, it can wait.

Returnal isn't your typical Sony game though. It's a 3rd person roguelike action shooter.

Besides, God of War, Horizon, Spider-Man, and even Days Gone were quite successful on PC. Sackboy didn't make a lot of sense and Uncharted is the 4th one in the series. TLOU Part 1 will tell us if Sony can expect great returns from their games. Though I do expect Ghost of Tsushima to be God of War level in terms of popularity on PC.

If the port is good and stutter free then I'm gonna buy it. I adore this game its absolutely incredible. I'm half thinking of a whole new build i9 and 4090 l, but if this game has stutter then its the final straw and I'm going pass on a new PC.

Playstation ports are actually pretty decent on PC when it comes to handling stuttering. Only sackboy had an issue and it was resolved within a few days.

Returnal should be fine. It will be interesting to see performance comparisons. Miles and Uncharted needed a 3070 to offer PS5 equivalent performance which is weird because in third party game the PS5 behaves more like a 2080- 2080 Super.

I’m buying it for sure, just not at launch. I’m also teetering between Returnal and The Last of Us which hits next month.

Honestly I don’t need any new games as I’ve got a shit ton to get started on. Of course I still bought Samurai Shodown, but that was $20 for the entire thing - not $70.

Don't have a gaming PC, already have it on PS5, so no. However...

On one hand, Housemarque knows their tech. The demoscene roots show. So probably it will be just fine.

On the other, it would be delightful for Alex to have another meltdown. So kinda torn on this.

Only Uncharted 4 required a 3070 for relative parity with the PS5. The Spider-Man games are a strange case because they require a monstrous CPU but a 2080 Ti that isn't CPU-limited will easily outdo a PS5. The 3070 might not because of a VRAM bottleneck. Even the 3080 runs into VRAM issues at 4K in Miles Morales.

I cant stand roguelikes and I'm not feeling the main char. I cant identify with a middle aged woman, call me a bigot or whatever, I like to play games where I can put myself in main char's shoes.

Great game shows a lot of promise the story is clear but open ended, most levels are like carved out spaces. It’s a popular game and appeals to the souls crowd.

The story is not the main focus, hardly any story, just a small mystery that you may figure out and it has absolutely nothing to do with souls games. Its a rogue-like, bullet hell.

PS folks believe those games are the second coming of Christ. While it's just one more game among the dozens of thousands available on PC. And if we count emulation, total conversions and more the list is endless.
It's a dog eat dog marketplace vs the petting zoo that's a console walled garden.
