They’d planned for their hardware revision to launch around September for a while, but the timing of this to clear inventory is also perfectly timed to suck the money out of people’s pockets before Starfield launches and to drive install base ahead of what will probably be a very aggressive Xmas season.

It’s unheard to me that they actually dropped the price of a console even if it’s temporary they can barely keep on the store shelves even nearly 3 years later. Yeah, there must something else coming(Pro and Slim) and I’m guessing they are clearing out inventory.

Clearing stock for the revision I'd guess. They also line up the price-points with a $399 "slim". This model has to be in deep manufacturing at the moment and I wonder when photos of it will leak.
In addition, I think I'll lower my price prediction of the disk drive add-on to that of a Dualsense, instead of $99.

The Slim model seems imminent. This is the first rumor that I totally believe it’s true.
With the release of a slim, we can say goodbye to SE covers. I guess Slider-Man 2 will be the first and last. Hopefully I get to find the black ones at least (for the DE) before they get discontinued.
Hopefully the Slim model looks cool. If the disc-drive add-on is true, I wonder how many people will prefer to stay digital instead of getting it separately (whether due to laziness, money, or whatnot).

What if there is `no` PS5 slim in the traditional sense?
What if the Slim is just the PS5 DE, but a new revision of it that gives it a disc drive bay? So the DE covers would still work. It could explain why we are or have not seen any leaks of the new model.

Why would they discontinue covers? They are a cheap way to sell high margin accessories. They'll just make new covers that complement the different size of the console. This is assuming the new PS5 has a drastic size decrease, which Henderson doesn't believe to be so.

Some consumers are interested in the slim form factor (console size and dimensions) and the reduced price.
The Digital Edition is not your typical slim console.

Yep, Food prices are ridiculous, and inflation is only smaller part of it. Stores have been jacking up prices.

I don’t think so. Right now they could just get rid of the disc PS5 and just allow an external disc-drive to be connected to the DE. However, I believe that a new model would be significantly smaller (maybe even their excuse to get rid of the disc drive in the first place).
Because they won’t sell accessories for a console they no longer produce. It happened with the original PS4. They stopped selling the replacement covers (they used to sell them in different colors, although mostly in Japan)

Don't get me wrong, I am fully in team slim. Just thinking about an alternative possibility. I could see the slim just being the current DE, albeit a different version of it. One that allows you to slide in/snap on a disc drive attachment (to be sold separately). I mean if I saw something like that I am saying I won't be surprised. A lot of shrinking would have to be done to everything else in that DE PS5 to allow for something like that.
Well yes, but this is all on the assumption that whatever design they go with on the new SKU wouldn't also use some sort of covers too?

Nah I don't see it. They'll just wind down the production of the old covers while increasing the production of the new ones. This again assumes that the two consoles are in such a big difference in size that new covers will be needed, which could also not be the case.

Just a sale for the dualsense, they've also reduced price of first party games.
In the europe the digital price actually stayed the same when we got the discount for the disc edition. So i'd imagine it'd be the same.

Anyway, for 199$ it's a pretty crazy bargain I must say. Very happy with this purchase, I've wanted a PS5 since it released almost 3 years ago. Looking forward playing all the great exclusives on it.

Yeah, here in Latin America, that's about as much as we pay for that.
But then I saw that in some American stores they were selling a dozen eggs for like $6 and I was like "WTF?".
