Star Citizen's StarEngine Demo

I already said my piece in the Squadron 42 thread on the front page right now, it's unbelievable.

#1 most anticipated game. I haven't seen something that blew me away like this since GTA3 and it's change to open world. One of those, "I can't believe this exists", kind of games.

I hope it's as good as it looks.

A mod thought SQ42 was not worth its own thread? Really? This is wack.
Yeah, I am curious about that too. Seems like a mod with an agenda but whatever, if you think it is a scam that is fine...you can keep screaming scam as I continue to play the alpha and eventually will play squadron42.

edit: this thread is great for me to add more idiots to my ignore list lol

With what has been shown, this thread certain deserves the proper name and not the appropriate sarcasm or the past. I never even post in the Star Citizen threads and I guess you can call my perspective that of some one who hasn't blindly followed the game to one who is excited as of today.

So yeah, Squadron 42, like the now merged thread, deserves to be the title.

I still can’t believe mods merged the Squadron 42 thread back to this one

Not even that other forum is that dense

There’s legit peoples who never even heard of Squadron 42.
I like it here and find it a place I've come to call home again but I agree.

The current state, as of the last few days, is finally hype worthy and new news deserve new threads free of the scam moniker.

EviLore EviLore , is it an official neogaf take? Squadron 42 doesn't deserve its own thread with a 26 mins long trailer and it got squished into the Star citizen, with moniker "scam"? Some peoples will literally skip the thread and miss out on SQ42 news.

What money are they laundering?
The 600 some-odd million dollars when they have no intention of actually launching a product. The whole team has been paid handsomely for over a decade to forever chase that 'next big tech upgrade', and so long as the whales keep on simping they can keep the scam going indefinitely. After all this time all anybody has to show for the most funded videogame of all time is a buggy-ass unoptimized shit-show of a tech demo. The moment the funding dries out is when these people piss off into the sunset with whatever funds are left in the coffers. The worst thing CIG can financially do is actually launch a product.

These people aren't developing a videogame, they're servicing a funding pipeline for gullible people with more money than common sense.

Edit - It's the exact same business model as mobile gaming, and I think that's a scam as well.

I doubt this comes to consoles, but I hope they let it be played on GeForce Now. It's been 5 years since I booted Star Citizen up and it did not run well on my PC at the time. I'm running a laptop now so if rather do GeForce Now or console

Streaming is you only hope i bet. Looking at the latest videos and all i keep thinking when watching is "lol this is going to run at 7fps lol".

It looks spectacular but you'll need the highest of high end pc's and DLSS 7.something with frame generation coming out of your ass to make this even slightly playable

Wow, you nailed it. I am sure the 1110 people working at CIG, all the engineers and artists incl. people like Marco Corbetta, who was lead programmer at Crytek on Far Cry and Crysis, are all happily and voluntarily working on a scam, like the true scam artists they are.

No wait, that's actually BS and you are full of shit.

Don't forget they also got Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson and Mark Strong all onboard this "scam".

I propose a peace treaty to all the non believers at NeoGAF.

This game is undeniable now.

You can keep your peace treaty, we'll all be resting in peace in the cemetary when this game ships.

a bit far-fetched butany reason to post a Peter Tosh song is good

Looks good but not amazing, mainly due to the disappointing amounts of pop in during the demo, a clear limitation of using an old engine that lacks modern features such as Nanite or mesh shaders that help smooth out LOD transitions.
Yeah pop-in is only really distracting thing for me. They are working on mesh shaders and ray tracing.

During day 1 of CitizenCon, there was a presentation about transitioning their compute workloads from the CPU to the GPU. They believe this shift could significantly reduce, if not entirely eliminate, the pop-up/in issues. I surmise that both the SC and SQ42 trailers were demonstrated using an older version of the engine/renderer.

Personally, I found the Star Engine showcase more captivating than the SQ42 presentation. While the latter was undoubtedly impressive, it didn't quite capture the sheer magnitude and intricacy of the work that's been poured into creating such a seamless, intricate simulation with all its multifaceted components. Many might not fully grasp the monumental engineering feat behind these games. I must admit, even I'm still wrapping my head around it, but the complexity is undeniably something.

They said they are just now moving to the "polish" phase and then on to optimization.

what the fuck does this even mean? How deep in the rabbit hole is this community?
Looks like just a different/better way of rendering darker skin tones kind of like a subsurface scattering. I'm not sure why anyone would be outraged by this?

I don't think you have a firm grasp of what "Money Laundering" is. Also, they're not paid "Handsomely." A lot of them are market or under market rate. Because the company is technically a UK company, all of their financials are public EVERY year which you can see. Their spending and earnings.

I love how most people commenting are so ignorant on the subject. SQ42 is feature complete and is in the polish phase.

So many trolls in this thread, probably the same ones who continuously praise the hell out of Starfield for its persistence and 1000 planets.

I'm glad Star Citizen, even the idea of it exists as gaming definitely needs a shakeup.

I'm a little shocked that so many are ready to define this as a real product, considering it's past, you can at least admit that most will be very hesitant to think it will be released until the day it's actually for sale a product. The indignation seems misplaced.

It'll never make sense to me how people can see all this breakthrough gaming tech and still be like "I gave them $40, I wish I just got to play a shittier version of this 5 years ago". Must have been nearly impossible that acquire that $40 to have such a take. Star Citizen is so exciting to follow. The only title I know of that gives a peak into true "next gen".

This game could come out and land 10/10s everywhere yet this forum will still change every Star Citizen thread title to "Scam citizen." Glad to see it's finally at a point through where they can put out great videos like this one where more of the public can see the breakthroughs they're making with the backend tech. For me, I'd say the chase may be more exciting than the catch when it finally releases. Hopefully they continue to push the engine forward for the next chapters with the foundation mostly in place

some say this community doesn't even breathe oxygen, but the smell of their own farts.

Now.

I think it is very impressive and i understand the appeal of it. it sells the illusion of limitless possibilities and the ultimate wet dream of space exploration.

when companies say "video games powered by the Cloud" this is something you expect to see.

And I was thinking...visually speaking this gen has been quite disappointing...and even more in terms on game design/mechanics. Everything feels derivative and iterative.

In some visual aspects, this demo it's outdated and some things looked even funny. But of course, you appreciate the actual scope and ambition and not some marketing speech borderline in false advertising.

I was shocked to see at their presentation that they're ditching the probe light system (cube map lighting)) for ray tracing. Even the software solution, while simplified, will be a form of ray tracing, much like software Lumen. The hardware accelerated RTGI though with this game, I mean fucking hell, that's some big balls on the R&D team.

Well, his persona at the very least is not the sharpest tool in the shed, thus the brainlet comment. I think off camera he's probably something else. That's the thing with youtubers, the clicks come with a certain "playing" dumb most of the time.
It's always just him but he's often being sarcastic and jokes around even if it sounds like he's being serious. He doesn't make it very obvious, though, and that's part of the schtick. But other than that he's one of the most level-headed guys among all of those YouTube personalities so be glad that he was impressed by this video.

Although personally, in this instance, I suspect that he may have been blown away like that because he's not very familiar with the history of this particular hype train and that this trailer will probably be the last we'll ever see of any of those features for the next 10 years. At this point, the only way I'm gonna be convinced otherwise is if the game that they've shown here will be right here in my open hand and ready to be played.

The attic goblin's whole impression

I get the impression that he's playing dumb for the sake of his stream. I'll even go as far as say that he's already watched these trailers privately, because some of his questions and answers to the chat seemed pretty pointed/well-informed.

Yeah! As I understand they need one GI system to optimize for, so now even in software mode ppl will have some form of GI and artist will optimize for it. BTW I'm on Nvidia and don't care about software GI but it's very good that artist will not split between software/hardware modes. Also it will be faster than bake everything.

We are at least 2 years from anything release-like on SQ42. One year for Pyro me guess.
