Mario is GOTY. Anyone who spent any real time with it will realize that. It’s level of brilliance in gameplay nothing else this year matches.
I'm probably going to ask Santa Claus for it. I've heard some say it's the best 2d Mario since the snes games. Would you agree?

I appreciate making this thread about Starfield but how can a mediocre game like that to even considered? And yeah, it hurts some people just to read that, but either they have very low standards or they are very loyal to whatever they think. That opinion is because it's a solid six. And that's taking pity because if we're going to raise the standard for these big AAA companies, this is a major disappointment and there's no excuse for it to be on any list other than the garbage list or biggest letdowns.

I like Starfield but will agree it's not GOTY worthy. I still think BG3 gets it because of everything it gives to the player in terms of freedom, outstanding production quality, great voice work, very good graphics, interesting story with interesting character arcs, and a lot of replayability for a single player game. Personally I think of the ones listed RE4: REMAKE shouldn't be on the list. They need a new category for remasters/remakes since those have become more common.

I'm not an Xbox fanboy i think my posts can prove it. I think only one nomination for Starfield smells like bullshit, or boycott to say it explicitly. I think about a debate i had on this forum with someone telling me awards are about industry politics, perhaps he was right.

Even more obvious than Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy 0 nomination, pretty baffling even though i don't care about the game. Those two games should have been nominated for best art design, and probably win the award, no doubt in my mind.

But i don't know why i even bother.

I'm disappointed that Starfield only got 1 nomination, but really shocked Hogwarts got nothing. Must be the politically incorrect JK Rowlings effect.

I voted for TotK since I haven't played Alan Wake 2 or Balders Gate 3 yet, but a good chance I would like one or both better.

Considering who is voting for those games, it was not surprising. I was actually surprised that Starfield got a single nomination.
Cannot wait for another GamesRadar+ twitter post "Starfield was not nominated for The Game Awared" being retweeted multiple times :messenger_tears_of_joy:

What I wasn't surprised to see was SM2 getting that many nominations. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Sad about not finding Armored core 6 anywhere. As for Starfield, I have yet to play it but the reception is a lot weaker than all of the others games so I am not too surprised. With all of their games in the pipeline it will probably be the last year that Xbox has without a nomination. Unless they got more Redfall failures waiting to happen, but I can't see Xbox letting that happen ever again.
Armored Core 6 has been nominated for best action game.

Aww... It didn't?

I can't believe that a niche-ass game like BG3 is gonna run away with GotY, in a year when quite possibly my favorite Zelda game of all time releases. And BG3 deserves it too. What an incredible year for games.

Really? But all we heard leading up to the reveal of the nominees was that Starfield was guaranteed a spot because the TGA’s are a sham popularity contest? So are they legit now that they have kept Starfield off the GOTY list?

That GOTY list is kind of depressing. We’re years into the generation and there are still barely any new major IPs.

edit, this post was originally in a thread dedicated to Starfield.

Reverse groomer.
Street Fighter 6 best fighting game of the year with sp content.. but fuck you let's award it accessibility
SF6 was really good when it came to accessibility though. Modern controls, singleplayer to get casuals interested, extensive training mode to make figuring shit out easier..... like yeah it wasn't exactly designed for disabled people but in terms of introducing casuals to fighting games no game did it better

I actually really enjoyed Starfield, but this can be seen as nothing but a failure by Microsoft/Bethesda.

Can't hype a game up as the second coming and not even be nominated for GOTY on the biggest gaming stage in the world.
Microsoft didnt hype the game up as the second coming. Not sure where that came from, but....

And it it didnt fail. Lol.

If there were 15 nominees I'm not sure Starfield would make the cut. It's a mediocre game in a stacked year.

My guy Draugoth Draugoth tried to make the nominee topic but when it got locked, decided to change tactics to drive engagement from the most talked about game on GAF ;)

LOL yeah there it is. The fact that this thread is pretty much the main Game Award 2023 Nominees thread, and had that title, is hilarious and says it all. Game isn't even nominated and is the main focus of the Game Awards Nominees thread. 🧠

Edit, looks like its been fixed, good.

I don't know, Sarah Bond walked up on stage and said it was "the most important RPG in a decade/generation" or something similar. Saying they didn't have expectations regarding it's critical reception is, well, wrong IMO.

Yup.

It was everywhere. Almost all my YouTube ads were Starfield. It was on TV. They dedicated a huge part of E3 exclusively to it.

Microsoft spent a lot on it, and yes, they knew they'd need to maximise sales to account for the $700,000,000 shortfall from not having it on PlayStation.

I blame this guy. He didn’t play it enough for it to warrant GOTY.
I always knew this guy was a clown based on his Ryse: Son of Rome stanning back in the day, but I didn't think it was this bad. I even double checked his profile and it checks out. The best part is that his Ryse stats show he's barely played the game.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure Crytek even gave him some super special leather bound edition of Ryse.

EDIT #2: Yes. I was right. https://www.neogaf.com/threads/want-to-give-a-very-big-thank-you-to-the-ryse-team.719721/

EDIT #3: No one better question my GAF street cred from here on out dammit. Call me an Xbot all you want, but I just proved I'm an OG.

I haven't seen any Starfield marketing. Actually the only MS game i have seen some marketing was Halo Infinite. Nothing compared to the competitions AAAs. There were just 1 or 2 guys here super excited for the game making stupid threads. The fail nonsense comes from the usual console warriors in whose heads Starfield still lives rentfree. And of course they only come up with the 83 MC console score instead of the 86 pc score. But that was expected.

Starfield is a good game. Not great, but good and 100% no failure.

Spencer literally said Starfield could be an 11/10 game and it still wouldn't out-console Sony. But it has garnered a record in subscription services upon release in Gamepass. It did break records for Bethesda Studios. It did hit 6 million players in its first 48 hours upon release. And it also was the highest selling game in September and #7 in most sold in 2023 (thats up against other high profile titan games from this year) - not to mention 11+ million players thusfar. It may not be nominated for GoTY on the game awards but it will garner other GoTY awards from other outlets.

Frankly speaking, I'm right. You're wrong. It is what it is...

Edit, looks like its been fixed, thanks.

I mean, there was a thread for every winner from each console of the Golden Joystick Awards so i thought " Why the hell not?"
