Hades 2 is just more of the same, it's still incredibly basic and only a few skills matter each run. I've not played most of the list but I had more fun with DKB, but it's a bit sad if they were the 2nd and 3rd best game of the year.

What's the confusion? As far as i'm aware, we're still in 2025... That's why I asked about a cut-off date.

And is there some sort of unwritten rule that says we need to meditate on a game for a certain amount of time after release before deciding where it ranks?

The game has been reviewed already so journalists should really know where it stands.

Calling Hades 2 "more of the same" really undersells how much they expanded the game

Once the systems open up (Omega moves, Arcana cards, rituals, familiars, all the new boon interactions) it's way deeper than the first

And if only a few skills feel useful, that usually means the build isn't being explored enough. There are tons of viable combos this time around. It's definitely not "basic."

This isn't 'more of the same,' it's a masterclass in design

Yes Techland's formula is a known quantity but it's very good. Plus they are committed to continually improving their games which is admirable. Love that studio.

List is alright, but would be better with all 4 of these pushed out. Avowed is mid, Monster Hunter Wilds was broken for most of the year with bad end-game, Pokemon Legends is a low-effort joke, and Lost Records is millennial writing cringe. Surprised Two Point Museum made it, but probably their best game.

Yeah, it's still a great game but I can't say I'm surprised. Haven't played Sonic yet, but that does look more like a 'classic' kart racer.

It's perfect as a your first roguelite. But if you have played Hades 1, then Hades 2 doesn't offer anything new at all, imho. Which is why I don't understand why it's on lists like these. I also found the first Hades to be better paced in terms of how and when you acquire stuff.
