Can confirm, I did the same exact thing.

Some people don't get it, most of us don't play RE games for the "atmosphere" or the scares (which there are none), all gameplay shown until yesterday was akin to a mediocre Outlast game, people don't want to play as "weak" female characters slowly exploring "atmospheric" environments and hiding from stalker enemies but, in fact, want to wreck shit and making zombie heads explode by using their favorite established characters.

RE games stopped being "atmospheric" and "scary" 30 years ago, these are more action horror games than survival horror ones, hence why most prefer a 3rd person camera AND action heavy bits.
I agree. Especially after RE4make. How many slow stalker or classic survival horror games do we have at this point?

Meanwhile not many games nail the frantic RE4 style gameplay. Going back to the weaker protag style is a legit regression. I can't wrap my head around people who want more of that weaker protag style of every single survival horror game when we have so few proper RE4 style games.

Don't get me wrong, I love survival horror to death (SH2 and OG RE4 have been tied for my favorite games my entire life). Thing is, a lot of games nail that. Only RE nails what RE4 does (and TLOU2 actually, but it's not as fun).

Cliff notes

- Grace's game play will be like RE2 remake. Leon's will be like RE4 remake.
- Grace is the "most fearful" RE protagonist and Leon is "the strongest"
- Gameplay time between the two is roughly split in the middle
- Balancing Leon for an optional first person view was a bit of a challenge.
- They will show more Leon game play in a January presentation
- Leon will not wreck his porsche (or they won't get a license again)
That comment about the balancing for first person being difficult makes me think this game really was made with third person in mind. It's obvious they designed it with RE2/RE4make in mind and then retroactively added the first person for the 7/8 fans.

Sad to hear their game time is pretty evenly split. It's going to be hard to go back to Graces slow stealth style after going balls to the wall with Leon RE4 style. Especially if we switch back and forth. Hopefully they at least structure it like she has the first half and he has the second half and ending. Please don't make me go back and forth.

I'm a big fan of Leon. 6 was the last game he was in that wasn't a remake, so I'm very excited to see where they take him.

I hope Nick is still voicing him (sounded like him from what I could tell - just gruffed up) as he did a great job in 2/4 and the Netflix mini series.

Gameplay wise - I definitely won't be upset about a game that caters to RE2 and RE4make gameplay conventions - with the 1st person choices of 7/8.

My biggest curiosity is around how long the game will be - and how will they approach each character's gameplay loop. If Grace is RE2, then the more tightly contained Metroidvania-esque design of the originals should be back;

That being said, as action heavy as RE4make was, it arguably injected more of the remake series survival horror flair into it than the original ever had. More puzzles, More scares(relative), more exploration even.

I'm not a big open world guy, but I do say the optional/openish sections from 8 and 4 remake made me want to see Capcom go full bore with that design ethos and see what came of it.

Interest now rising, the 1 minute of gameplay with Leon they showed actually looked fun.

To bad it was only 1 minute.

I don't play resident evil games to be a glorified Sherry Birkin or Ashley Graham. So far, everything else they showed felt like that. And it was really disappointing.

Interesting to see some fans bitching and moaning that there's going to be an actually armed and not defenseless protagonist in this game.
Meanwhile, core fans have been blowing off zombie heads and knifing bosses for 30 years. If you you want a run and hide game, there are other options out there.

RE4R being the fastest selling RE title in history only further proves this point.

I agree with some sentiments that this could be like RE6 and The Evil Within. Unfortunately not a fan of those games. Gotta try it when I eventually upgrade my PC lol!

Still have high hopes for the Code Veronica and RE0 remake to bring back that classic feel.

Actually Leon looks good for his age!
Much better than the leaked image from before, which he looked almost like Joel.
Looking forward to play this game.

How would you guys have handled the introduction to Leon? I had thought that a good idea would've been to have grace find out about Leon's past while she's investigating the case she's sent out on. She'd find clues here and there that there was a place called raccoon city and an rpd cop called Leon that would tie up that story. Than part of her story would be trying to locate Leon to help her with her investigation. Than she finds him and asks him to come out of retirement and join her in racoon city to continue the pursuit. With his history to the city and rpd he agrees.

Keep it a secret so it would have more oh wow factor when you finally play as him is what I would do.
Nah, Leon is a fan favorite, and games that feature him sell better than every other entry in the franchise. Never featuring him in any marketing would cost them countless dollars.

Only played RE2 and RE3 remakes. Am I gonna be fine if I play RE4 before this or do I need more? Trying to get into RE feels super convoluted for some reason.

I've been playing them since Day 1 literally and I have no idea wtf goes on in Resident Evil's plot and don't care. All you need to care about is that some type of zombie-ism is on the muthafukkin loose and you will pew pew!

PS: RE is a bunch of incoherent anime nonsense imo

After RE2 Leon becomes America's Jason Statham character. That's literally all you need to know.

We play with Leon on the near past of the game, then he gets infected and turns out to be Grace's stalker

Thank y'all! I guess I'll get RE4 Remake still and then just be on my way to RE9.

I could not be less interested in this after the last game. Was a hot pile of shit.

Edit- I mean the mainline games. Not the remakes which were excelent.
