10 goddamned modules I guess. Messy as Series X.So.......what are the only other options?

I'd like to remind everyone that the PS5 released in the Fall of 2020.......The height of the Coronavirus and no supplies.
In terms of available supply it was actually much worse than now, however little did we know TSMC was a benevolent dictator, because despite the insane demand for 7nm they barely raised prices during the shortage. Meanwhile Micron/SK Hynix/Samsung see the shortage and immediately doubled prices.I don't think it was a similar 'no supplies' case as we're seeing right now where an entire years worth of memory has already been pre bought by one industry and major manufacturers are exiting the consumer market just to focus on the corporate market.
Sony has been making hardware since what the 1940s? They have powers that Valve does not.I'd like to remind everyone that the PS5 released in the Fall of 2020.......The height of the Coronavirus and no supplies.
So.......what are the only other options?
I can see 6GB mofule development getting totally fucked by RAMpocalyse, but if 10 modules was the plan from the beginning, they should have just gone 256 bit bus like PS5 and split the difference between module count and additional fie space for memory controllers. 32GB with 4GB module would have been 2X of PS5 and perfect. Now you are doing 10 goddsmned modules on mobo and probably just get us 30GB instead of 40GB. Oof.
160 bit always seemed odd to me, even with RDNA 5 requiring less bandwidth.

New games will have to be Console SKUs, GDKX created and fixed spec hardware Optimized for hardware with unified memory architecture. It's going to be interesting to see how they approach things. New games are going to be basically PC Win Store games I would think.
"We definitely plan to be on the new hardware for Xbox, because, unless their policy or stance on it changes, they are telling us they're going to welcome that. And we're going be there, like, on day one. That will probably require us to build in whatever their requirements are, some sort of software to support that."
Hm interesting just saw the Epic statement of building an app why would they need to if it's just Windows 11 FSE? Common sense reasoning many have missed including myself well spotted! If it's "just Windows" Epic/Steam/etc don't have to do anything
Epic game store on next Xbox isn't that basically the entirety of PC gaming?
They did say Curated Console. MS Store on PC has rule, that any third party store is allowed, without any cuts to MS but they need to have minimum of 20 item inventory of games.Hm interesting just saw the Epic statement of building an app why would they need to if it's just Windows 11 FSE? That's 6GB chips. 4GB no problem. That's why I think Magnus is entirely why that wasn't an option. The 4 GB chips aren't going to be available until sometime in 2028.
Magnus is required part of the hybrid. Developing and porting games for its specs sounds logical, especially since it almost guarantees AT2 being the most popular new gen PC GPU other than the cheapies.Hm interesting just saw the Epic statement of building an app why would they need to if it's just Windows 11 FSE? Don't you worry old man, there is no place for you to run.goodness.....you are one of those
I can fathom that people like you exist that has a boner for anything Microsoft and Xbox. Your excuses were bs and I called you out on it, what happened to those "exclusives"?
Weird to be buying playstations when you repeatedly shit on them, you do you though.
Edit : Oh my god, you buy prebuilts don't you?!?
Tbh I bought what I thought was a small PC in an Origin case that was supposed to be small but it barely fits in a large backpack(yes, I should have researched the dimensions but i already owned a normal tower that fit in my bag easily) and feels about 30 pounds. I was excited about the Steam Machine as I love my Deck but then I saw the power level. I hope the Xbox is a good bit more future proof and I plan to get the warranty. I had a lot of issues with my Origin and a Ram stick just went bad.
So yeah, I want a small pretty powerful PC/Xbox that I can transport easily. I'd be even more excited for a PS6 with Steam but that isn't happening. I keep seeing seemingly PS fanboys all are somehow also PC gamers. That's cringe too lol.
He just can't accept that some of us Playstation fans have been gaming on PC since the 90s.Just like Xbox fans are all PC and Nintendo fans now, right?
They did say Curated Console. MS Store on PC has rule, that any third party store is allowed, without any cuts to MS but they need to have minimum of 20 item inventory of games.
The device will be closed for security and open for competition. So locked bootloader, and can't just run any .executables. The PC stores would need to either provide an MSIX bundle like what EGS and Firefox do on MS Store, and the games would probably run inside a PC container.
That's why they're building BOTH Xbox PC and Xbox Console with the Magnus hardware.
Not really, it was never meant to be a open PC anyways. A lot of people asking Apple to combine macOS and ipadOS into a Surface like product but Apple refuses to do it because they don't want the product form factors to merge and lose out on separate revenues.DOA, if your guesses are accurate. Microsoft trying to explain all that to customers will be worse than the Xbox One debacle. Microsoft insists on over-complicating everything.

Think of the Xbox Magnus Consoles as the iPad of PCs, but instead of being forced by governments to allow competition, MS is doing it proactively because they know the devices will sell better that way and OEMs will continue making them. They still want to keep the devices secure of hacking, piracy, cheating, fraud etc.
What we are experiencing now is on another level from pandemic shortages.
It's "different" now, but not sure it's worse. I'm 100% sure some of you guys just kinda forgot how bad the supply shortages were in 2020 - 2022. It's crazy that a few years of stability makes people forget how bad things were.
People be that way when you're not total PCMR cringe-fest for it all the time. And we also recognize the importance of consoles for the overall gaming industry. He just can't accept that some of us Playstation fans have been gaming on PC since the 90s.
Looks like Totilo has more quotes from Epic and they're a lot more blunt about their intentions.

And at one time, Sony had banger after banger with their first party games

Sadly, nobody is putting out banger after banger like they once did. Not even Nintendo.
It's possible to use an Xbox controller with a PS5 but that's definitely not what's happening here. They have Xbox controllers in their hands
This generation has been major let down for me from a first party standpointSadly, nobody is putting out banger after banger like they once did. Not even Nintendo.

Third party has carried this gen so far
I humbly believe that if Microsoft offers a typical console box, with a controller, a fast and simple UI that runs new and past Xbox games, and you plug it into the TV... it will be enough for the vast majority of people.I'm not the one that needs the explanation. It's the vast majority of consumers out there that don't read about this every single day that are going to be greeted with a confusing mess of "Xbox" on MS and OEM devices.
The best third party-styled published game for me that I keep going back to almost daily, unironically is a first party game by Sony.Thankfully, I think third party has been damn good, especially from more indie-aligned studios.
I'm saying late November 2027 or spring 2028 more likelyNovember 2027 would make sense then.

It will be as simple as clearly explaining what you're offering with your product to those looking for a traditional console experience........ and then, second step, clearly explaining what the "novelty" or added benefit of being able to play games from other stores simultaneously means to those looking for extra reasons or value proposition to choose this new hardware over other options on the market (price, power, catalog, support, lifespan, compatibility, subscriptions, etc.).
In other words, the first step should be to clearly explain the basics and then go into the extra details, even though those are or will become equally important.
And yes, it's something silly that shouldn't need explaining, but the situation, the social media misinformation and the lack of clarity from those in charge at Xbox, etc.... has reached a point where the first thing is to explain the basics
Possible "XBOXPC" OEMS with de Magnus/console Xbox architecture?? This should be something to explain for AMD, Asus, Lenovo etc and MS but in a time after the New Xbox launch.

I don't really think anyone forgot anything. Gaming sector is coming up on another period higher prices due to a different set of factors. We can reflect on past events but what does that change about what the industry is facing today?
They more than likely have some leverage since they're the top imaging sensor producer in the world. AI data centers, Samsung (and others) televisions, top smartphones, Hollywood production, even the fabs that produce the RAM themselves all rely on their imaging sensors. Sony has also had their own AI data centers for quite some time. The point is Sony was able to manage it well, considering the global crisis that was happening. So shouldn't we believe they'd be able to manage it this time around? Plus, they are a hardware company first and foremost. We should sometimes separate them out from some of their competitors.
Had no idea their sensors were used for all this stuff. Good info. They more than likely have some leverage since they're the top imaging sensor producer in the world. You're not going to grow with a $1200+ console. It's only downhill for them here on out. With a steady slate of killer releases, this console could be a complete revival of the brand and help claw back some of the market share it's lost since the 360 era.
or
It could very well be the end of the xbox brand altogether.
I'm excited either way! Phil spencer going to save next next gen gaming!
