Opinion: Xbox Should Consider Cancelling Halo: Campaign Evolved For PS5.

There is a better chance of Halo for the next-gen Xbox being canceled then there is for the PlayStation 5 version of the Halo 1 remake being canceled.

Honestly, Halo on PlayStation is probably one of the most damaging things Microsoft could do to the Xbox brand. All the ABK games? Sure. Bethesda. Yes.

These?

Halo
Forza
Gears
Fable

No. If you are going to have an Xbox console then these can't be on PlayStation. You can't have it both ways.

Microsoft want sales. They're not going to get them on their own dead hardware.

What you'll get from now on is an Xbox division that will cater to all platforms first before their own, because those are the ones that will make them money.

Put it this way.... To MS/Xbox, Halo, Gears, ES, Fable, Forza Horizon etc. are PS5, PC and Switch franchises, not Xbox.

They're going where the money is. Simple as that. They'll be no more exclusives.

Zero chance of that happening. The goal is to get more games on the top 20 sold per year. 2025= 5 Xbox games on top 20.

Halo/cod gives msft a chance to nuke other publishers.

Xbox = pc; creates 1 standard market so msft can sell content. This is a software play.
Msft needs to become efficient as a mega publisher then acquire other lesser pubs.

When will people understand that these companies just want to make money? Gaming is an absolutely massive business at this point and first parties will want to make as much money as possible on AAA products that now cost upwards of hundreds of millions to create.

Releasing a product on one platform where (I imagine) a huge percentage of those players will be playing on Game Pass isn't making them anymore money than they had before. Releasing on as many platforms as possible gives them a much better chance of making a profit.

Nintendo is an outlier in this respect and I would be interested to know what their games cost to produce.
Yeah but your profit is multiples greater on your own platform. And these kinds of decision affect future customer behavior. HOw many customers leave the Xbox and go to the PS in the future because Xbox games are on the PS? Ok maybe they still buy Halo and every other MSFT 1st party title but your profit on each is fractions of what it was. And Meanwhile you get no services revenue from Xbox Live or GP and no 3rd party royalties from that customer either. IF they are buying Madden then Sony is getting the $$$. If they buy GTA6 Sony gets it. IF they play Fortnite on the PS it's Sony who gets a cut of the Vbucks they buy on the console.

So the decision isn't that simple.

IF your install base is really low though...the math is easier. YOu're kind of then forced to do it. To become a third party publisher like EA and like ATVI was.

Realistically speaking for 2027 and beyond games there should be at least a 6 month exclusivity window for xbox. To late to pivot for set in stone 22026 releases

I didn't expect Sony to change its plans to port games to PC, so who knows, maybe Microsoft will do the same regarding ports to PlayStation/PC. But Microsoft's decision is much more complicated.

Also, I wouldn't put too much faith in the new CEO. Before changing anything, she would need to convince upper management that this is the better long-term decision. But even if it is, Nadella and the others might just say "fuck it." It wasn't that long ago that they were demanding a 30% profit margin, and another radical shift would put Microsoft back at square one again. Will they even have the patience for that?

Everybody knows that. The issue is these games are to expensive to just rely on their own ecosystem and PC to sell. With GP being on both and the churn rate of GP with people hopping in and out it becomes to expensive.

It's funny because they are releasing new games of these franchise for PS5 this year.

Would be cool if Microsoft turns things around, but I honestly don't know how. Jesus, fix this division is a hell of a work.

I guess it's going to be a good experiment for them. If the games that are coming out day one on PS5 sell as good or even better than they do on Xbox, they are not going to change a single thing.

They should.. but they wont...

Things I expect to hear from MS and Xbox this year.

- Next Gen console Canceled
- A few smaller devs outright closed.
- Rumors of them wanting to sell off some IPs and studios. ( that come true in the following years)
- They will keep COD though.
This is exactly what I think is going to happen. I hope they will attempt to spin off some of the developers instead of killing them off. I really like Double Fine and though Keeper was really good.

I'm still playing on my Xbox One S, mainly playing Forza Horizon and Gears of War games. I recently had the box cleaned with new thermal paste so I fell in good for another decade…but if Microsoft cancels their new consoles, I should probably buy a Series S so I can keep playing my old games.

But, I just think that with all the uncertainty surrounding the future — and indeed the "return" — of Xbox, the team should consider not letting the cat get out of the bag for now in regards to its most iconic franchise of all.

I have no idea what "return" means with regards to Xbox. I doubt Xbox does either, but there's always someone out there who will take them seriously.

They aren't moving enough hardware to do exclusive anything at this point. Aint no way they're changing course at this juncture.

What a fucking idiot. Gamepass didn't change the industry like he had hoped. Anyone with a brain cell knew gamepass was a bad idea.
Yep. Game Pass, play anywhere, Backwards compatibility, "ecosystem"... Only retard moves... For retards. And these retards deserve the downfall. (clearly he was taking about Jez Corden too).

Sadly, I think it would require a lot of difficult decisions that Microsoft leadership just won't do.

Xbox just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about gamer culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in the games industry, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the gamer public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Halo for either system, nor will they purchase any of Xbox's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Xbox has alienated an entire market with this move.

Xbox, publicly apologize and cancel Halo for PS5 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Not necessarily, but Xbox should heavily invest in new IPs.

I'm shocked it took until the second page for someone to do this.

I would like to see Microsoft getting back to its roots with Xbox, but at this point, I think it would be a bad idea. Even during the Xbox 360 era, they sold fewer consoles than Sony. Even at their best, they still "lose." Right now, things are much worse. They would need a lot of time and money just to try to recover what they've lost. And there's still a chance that they could do everything right and the project would still fail.

from a business perspective, I understand the importance of exclusives... as a gamer, it does affect me if someone on another toy gets to enjoy games sooo fuck em! leave the gates open.

You're not wrong. I'm just tired them putting half-ass efforts towards their consoles.

You didn't have much of one.

You wouldn't know

What the fcuk did you say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know i graduated top of my class in the navy seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I will wipe you the fcuk out with target precision the likes of which has never been seen before in 🌍/ cod warzone.

It's pasta relax.

Which IPs? The only one I can think of is Starfield.

You didn't have much of one.
South of Midnight
Redfall
Avowed
Keeper
Ara
Pentiment
Kiln
Grounded
As dusk falls
Towerborne

They've been pushing out a bunch. On the horizon you have clockwork revolution.

Personally I'd prefer if they put more effort into established IP

They should stop releasing all their games on PlayStation. Absolutely zero reason to buy their console these days.

I agree. Probably won't happen but then again asha she did say…. " the plan is the plan… until it is that anymore" she says she wants to get back to the core of Xbox. Well starting with going back on putting games in Playstation would be a good idea. Get competitive again.

Don't think they planned on making sequels for any of these outside of Avowed.

Well Atleast they are putting out new IP. Not every game needs a sequel. That's part of the problem with the industry as it is. Too much reliance on sequels to already successful games.

Xbox as a brand has long since crossed the rubicon for being an exclusives machine. Between abysmal hardware sales and Game Pass conditioning people not to buy games on the platform, they have no choice anymore but to pursue a full multiplatform strategy. Every single Microsoft Games Studios game that has been ported to PlayStation has sold more copies on PlayStation than on Xbox platforms.

Halo Campaign Evolved will sell more copies on PS5 than it will ever sell on both Xbox Series platforms, combined. Not only because Game Pass exists, but because it's the first time Halo will be available on PlayStation, whereas Xbox players have been playing Halo: CE in various forms for 25 years. Two thirds of the Halo/Gears/Forza foundation are already on PlayStation. It's far too late to go back now.
