Ubisoft is celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Division franchise in March 2026, alongside the 7th anniversary of The Division 2, marking a major milestone for the series.

To kick off the festivities, the original The Division recently received a 60 FPS update on PS5 as part of the anniversary celebration.

A brand-new Realism Mode was revealed for The Division 2 at FPS Day X — a hardcore, immersive experience designed to strip back RPG elements and emphasize tactical combat.

Realism Mode features action-focused combat with reduced time-to-kill, realistic weapon damage influenced by bullet caliber, minimal UI/HUD, no health regeneration, scarce ammo, and longer skill cooldowns for a raw, unforgiving feel.

This mode will be available only during the anniversary season in March 2026 and is exclusive to owners of the Warlords of New York expansion.

The mode requires a new standalone character with no traditional leveling or XP gain — progression focuses on unlocking gear and mastering the experience.

Alongside Realism Mode, an Anniversary Pass and season will offer rewards, XP boosts, and collaborations with other Tom Clancy franchises (including Rainbow Six Siege X, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon).

Ubisoft confirmed that after the anniversary celebrations, The Division 2 will enter Year 8, with more content, updates, and challenges to be detailed in March.

Fans are also reacting strongly to Realism Mode's limited-time nature, with many hoping it might become permanent or influence future The Division titles.

"This mode will be available only during the anniversary season in March 2026 and is exclusive to owners of the Warlords of New York expansion."

Well that sucks. I would have gone back in if it was for everybody.

Whatever happened to that Definitive Edition from that big ad? Is it real? Would love it on Switch 2 since Ubi seems to really like the Switch 2.

That certainly sounds puzzling. Did they explain only why for a short amount of time?

Realism mode sounds awesome, definitely going to be giving that a go. Reminds me of what they did with Ghost Recon Breakpoint when they added a mode that stripped all the gear score. Obviously Division 2 is a very different type of game, but I'm excited to see what that mode is all about.

I'm also pretty certain that they'll leave that mode in following the end of the season since I assume most people will give them shit if they take it away.

Was hoping they'd put realism mode in the first Divison game also and make them permanent. Probably try to sell us it as dlc at some point. 😞

They always do this shit, they really believe Global Events are a novelty to this day, smh...

These dumb motherfuckers at Ubisoft never learn. Holy shit.

Sounds exactly what I wanted from The Division from the start, but those dumb mfers had to lock it behind an expansion? So dumb

The realistic mode is a nice addition even if temporary. I hate the gameplay in this game. Not sure what's fun in shooting dozens and dozens of sponge enemies over and over again in each mission.
For the division 3, I want a mix of the division 1 for the world and Ghost Recon for the gameplay.

Damn thank you Massive/Ubi for past year of Division content. The game feels at its finest when any NPC is enough to kill you and you cower in cover.

I was lucky enough to play the first one with my best friend, side by side with our PS4s in the same room with sessions of 8+ hours a time.

And then Division 2 released and the other 2 friends of our group also had PS4s and we played with a full group of 4 people for months. Completing missions on the hardest difficulty without checkpoints, raiding the dark zone and doing the tower.
What an absolute blast.
Maybe the best multiplayer moments of my life, along with the Diablo sessions with my wife.

The Division 1 is awesome. i love the atmosphere, and the shooting is great. one of the few multiplayer games i've ever enjoyed a lot. also, people seem to forget about this now, but i think it might've created the extraction shooter genre with the Dark Zone dlc?

Seen people say warlords of new york is basically necessary at this point. It's cheap sometimes if you get a good $10 off coupon on ubisoft store.

My guess is that they're testing the waters for this mode in Division 3.
Correct, they are using Division 2 as a live testing environment. Right now, the current season which ends in several weeks from now implemented AI companions for the first time. Next season is this new realism mode. They drop in what they're working on, collect feedback from the community, iterate, and then move on. They already said the AI companion system will make a comeback sometime in the future.

I'd wager the new survival mode coming at the end of this year will incorporate elements from this realism mode. It likely is also going to inform gameplay design for Division 3 because bullet sponge enemies has always been the number one complaint about the franchise from folks expecting tactical milsim experiences. They've undoubtedly considered Arc Raiders' reception and are acting accordingly.

Folks are way too quick to rush to judgment.

Oh my god, that realism mode sounds like what I wanted Division 1 to be when it first came out.

Lost interest in that one after the platinum and barely tried the DLCs. Never played 2. If realism mode was a real way to play through the game, I would have picked that up and actually play it. But it sounds like is an half-hearted effort to gain some clicks.

Man. Such a squandered IP. The first was was vibe-as-fuck. Second not so much.

Making it more tactical would have been the move.

Both games should be consolidated under one single PS5/PC/Xbox GaaS version with graphical improvements on latest consoles, increase fidelity for models (get rid of ugly faces) and modes for everyone. That would definitely tide everyone until the 3rd version.

Aaand now you can fuck right off again, Ubi. I am so sick of devs and this limited time shit and required DLC shit. Someone here recently asked me why I don't get excited for games anymore; it is because the industry is corpo trash and is full of nonsense like this. "You can only enjoy cool and interesting shit for a limited time and if you spend even more money on our old games."

Rush to judgement??? A decade and two monetized games is more than long enough for a developer to iterate. This isn't rocket science. Ubisoft is just willfully tone deaf to what people want. They are eccentric and arrogant and it is apparent in their products and strategy. Piss on them and their lot. It is time for them to go out of business.

In a recent financial update, Ubisoft touched on The Division, the post-apocalyptic shooter MMO that is preparing to celebrate its tenth anniversary. In March, The Division will be a decade old, and this year, Ubisoft plans to unveil an 'ambitious' roadmap that includes the launch of The Division: Resurgence.

While we don't have a firm release date just yet, we now know that The Division: Resurgence, an authentic mobile-first experience, is planned for release between February and April 2026.

Recently, Ubisoft quietly released The Division: Definitive Edition, which proved to be a disappointing drop for fans of the shooter series. It was assumed that the team at Massive would have produced something more significant for the game's tenth anniversary, but the 'special edition' came without any frills whatsoever.

Regardless, Ubisoft has assured fans that a strong year is ahead for The Division.

In the recent financial update, which reported strong results, the team insisted that The Division: Resurgence, a mobile game with all the trappings of the core series, is planned for release in Q4 2025-2026. That means, all being well, we'll have it before April. Right now, the game is undergoing tests that are slowly opening to include more territories.

Additionally, it was confirmed that The Division 2 will be getting 'a new game mode' for the tenth anniversary of the franchise, arriving in March 2026. When that date comes around, Ubisoft will take the opportunity to unveil 'an ambitious roadmap' for the year ahead.

I legit hope they drop a first look at The Division 3. I'm so stupidly excited. Next to GTA 6, The Division 3 is my most anticipated game.

The updates for TD2 are fine, even visual updates, didn't expect that.

And the best thing of all; They are enabling crossplay! I can finally recommend the game to my console friends.

Btw, fuck the mobile game... Where's TD3.

Yeah, the visual update came out of nowhere. I'm going to take a look here in a moment.

No Division 3, disappointed but if it's not ready for reveal then so be it.

Surprised there's another DLC for Division 2 this year. Central Park eh? I'm down.

Reminder that both games are currently 90% off on Steam at the moment

Reinstalled this the other day but I was kind of lost since it's been a while. Finished the campaign and seemingly all of Warlords main missions so I definitely don't want to start over.

Thinking about buying the Brooklyn DLC. Hopefully starting that and clearing my inventory will allow me to get back into the groove.

Realism mode sounds cool I guess but I would rather punch myself in the nuts than deal with a turret lasering me in two hits from a mile away.

Where are the visual updates mentioned in the video? They don't give examples in the patch notes or their other info posts.

But no cross progression I guess? I want to switch between PS5 and PC without needing to start over

Also where is that info with visual upgrades coming from?
It was shown during the stream. It's primarily lighting, but there are a few other features. For example, they've added a depth of field effect for extreme distances which actually looks good from the brief amount of time I messed around in game.

But yeah, no cross progression. My guess is that they don't want to deal with trying to merge accounts, I'm honestly surprised they added crossplay at all.

The Division turns 10 and there has never been a better time to join!
To mark a decade of The Division, we're launching a special four-week Anniversary Season in The Division 2, with new activities and rewards rolling out each week.
Agents can take on two brand-new Global Events inspired by the original game, earn the return of the iconic Exotic LMG Big Alejandro on the free rewards track, and unlock tactical uniforms from across the Tom Clancy universe through the Anniversary Pass.
We're also introducing a limited-time Realism Mode, delivering a more intense and unforgiving way to experience the game. In addition, Warlords of New York is free to play for all players during the Anniversary.
Alongside the celebration comes a major visual upgrade and exclusive anniversary rewards for all players.
Jump in and celebrate 10 years of The Division.

Tom Clancy's The Division 2's new season, "Rise Up", is coming April 2nd.

As Black Tusk goes on the offensive with an improved retaliation system, ""Rise Up"" introduces Escalation, a new difficulty that pushes the end game to new heights. A new equipment rarity, Prototype, gives players the most advanced gear and weapons, and seasonal modifiers allow build customization like never before, giving Agents the freedom and power to rise to the challenge.

I've gotten back into this after buying it during the anniversary sale. It's pretty awesome. The base game is included with GP and PS+. I had read they were going to do cross play this month. Hopefully that's true.
