No, the visuals are a generation behind - I originally chalked this up to Bungie wanting to keep development costs low for their next GAAS - and the maps are small enough that it's a major point of discussion. You can enjoy the game, but don't pretend Marathon has impressive technology or dense worlds. The visuals are great and the maps are perfect size for the game? Bigger isn't always better. See Highguard.
100%This was not a decision made out of fear, panic, etc.
This was a decision that was specficially withheld so people wouldn't lose their shit over a Cross-Gen game given where we are in the current gen life cycle. They didn't want the bad press so they haven't done a press release.
Do people actually think you can "panic publish" a fucking game on two platforms?
BF6 is great but its like a refined version of the game released over 15 years ago, why would it be shooter of the generation?100%
And shame on them for it. Battlefield 6 isn't even getting pushed for shooter of generation at this rate,
A multiplayer shooter doing anything on Switch? Whatcha talkin' bout willis?Switch 2 version would certainly help them IMMENSLY....but if they don't care about Big Red then good luck to them.
(I am sure they will get it when those dev kits show up)

Nah. Have you seen the cinematics? Even with lesser texture work, shaders/materials are nothing remarkable. The visuals are great and the maps are perfect size for the game? Bigger isn't always better. See Highguard.
People seem to think that "any press is good press" is still a valid mantra...it isn't - see HighGuard, Horizon HG, Arkham Knights, Suicide Squad, etc etc etc. When you do no marketing at all for the plataform you shadowdrop? Yes.
And when doing a demo only on PS5 will help PS4 and Xbox One to be a polish release?
You guys live in a bubble.

It won't be a shadow drop either...if it IS an actual release and not a misprint, it will be a planned release to coincide with the season 2 release and/or its addition to PS+.
Will see how it washes out in the end.
I think it's the best one that pushes the current gen consoles hard. I don't believe cross gen games will do that. Just my opinionBF6 is great but its like a refined version of the game released over 15 years ago, why would it be shooter of the generation?
As far as Marathon goes. Being on ps4/one makes sense as the port is probably just lower settings which will scale fine.

Highly different stylized games though.I think it's the best one that pushes the current gen consoles hard. I don't believe cross gen games will do that. Just my opinion
The graphic and map size aren't a design choice to make sure the game runs on a potato at least i don't think that's the case. There are far far bigger maps available on last gen consoles in similar titles with a more regular graphical style like DMZ /Warzone for example. Maybe its to keep costs down like you say but I see no technical reason the maps couldn't be 5 times larger regardless even if they are aiming to release on last gen as well. No, the visuals are a generation behind - I originally chalked this up to Bungie wanting to keep development costs low for their next GAAS - and the maps are small enough that it's a major point of discussion. Depends on what their targets are for last-gen. I haven't looked under the hood, so I don't know how Bungie have evolved their tech stack - or if they have at all. If they're aiming for frame rate parity - 60FPS, for example - last-gen would be an anchor around their entire implementation, and would explain why Marathon looks almost a generation behind - certainly well beneath their accomplishments with Destiny 2. I think load times would also be hugely problematic; larger single zone maps would take forever to load, where the difference to current gen would either force everyone to wait for the longest load or cause last-gen players to miss literally minutes of a match. The graphic and map size aren't a design choice to make sure the game runs on a potato at least i don't think that's the case. I don't think it's releasing on last gen tbh, would be a major own goal and piss a load of folks off. Loads of the D2 community want them to ditch last gen and that game is 7 years old at this point.Depends on what their targets are for last-gen. Given how quiet Sony kept on some of their early cross-gen games, trying to pass them off as next-gen only, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't actually announce it and just launch. Marathon needs to make Bungie billions - the PS4 and Xbone is a way to get more people playing their game. I wonder if we'll see a mobile port in the future?I don't think it's releasing on last gen tbh, would be a major own goal and piss a load of folks off. Its not just map size or graphics like you say, it would affect stuff like vault space, match wait times, everything basically. If it was coming it would be announced by now.
That said this is Bungie we are talking about, wouldn't be the first brain dead moved they have made.

Doesn't Fortnite do well on Switch? And I think Apex Legends too.A multiplayer shooter doing anything on Switch? Whatcha talkin' bout willis?
As a owner of a PS4 Pro that has not many reasons to upgrade (The few current-gen games i would want to play are nothing compared to my massive backlog), i would definitely enjoy a PS4 version of Marathon. Its artstyle is fascinating but its technical chops are perfectly sound for these machines.
Does it? If it was that big they wouldn't have abandoned itDoesn't Fortnite do well on Switch? And I think Apex Legends too.

The installbase number for Switch 2 is even smaller. I doubt a Switch 2 release of a paid multiplayer shooter is going to do much at all.
The same applies there, that is normally because the population gets to a point where it's not worth support costs. If it was sizeable they keep would keep it.I wouldn't say they abandoned it. It's on Switch 2 now. There are live service games that ended service on PS4 but are still on PS5.
I don't know how much of an appeal there is for Marathon specifically though, I think games like Fortnite are probably popular with younger audiences.
I mean, for me it would just be to highlight how technically fascinating it would be. And 60 FPS could be achieve i feel, especially on the enhanced consoles. It doesn't look like a real CPU bound game.I would assume this will be 30fps on last gen. I don´t know if you want play a PvP focused game against other players who play this with 60fps or much more.
its the Tiger Engine, further modified. Which in some sorts is still the good old Blam Engine from Halo. They really ought to get a more modern tech out there. Then again they are one of the few devs with a custom engine, as everything is Unreal these days. I personally find that charming. Is this basically using same engine as Destiny? If so I guess it sorta makes sense...

It's literally idiotic, thread makers should have option to disable such responses or something. Should be even bannable, contributes nothing except annoyance.GAF leadership, please add a feature to see what % of a user's posts are just a reaction GIF. I'm dying to know.
Like you with all the crazy shit threads you open to shit on games based on tweets? The people hating on this game have never even tried it or were willing to give it a chance.
