If the arrival of the next generation coincides with really good games, then sure, why not. As for the hardware itself, i don't care; it's been sufficient for me for a long time, new tech doesn't impress me anymore.

Yeah i really really hope we get next gen visuals this time. This generation is a really disapointment in terms of that. Like big time.
That said, i think if sony doesn't allow pc games with their next system, the choice is obvious to go for the next xbox.
It's like the biggest change that they ever could have done. Allow pc games to be played on a console as well.
All those cheaper games with cdkeys you could get? Or the backlog support it will from past generations.
If Sony isn't doing it, it's going to be the obsolete console imo.

Not really. Feels like the current generation is still getting started and next get just feels like a resolution bump. They should delay next gen to 2030 or at least late 2028 imho.

Bold of you to assume that next gen is happening in 2027. AFAIK the last statement from Sony at least is that we're only about halfway through this gen. So unless something has changed then I don't see next gen happening until at the earliest 2030.

With Nintendo doing their own time table (with comparatively weaker hardware) and Microsoft abandoning actual consoles, "next-gen" literally just means PS6.

Honestly - No.. I purchased a PS5, a Series X, Switch 1+2 and I realize I really just don't play on any of them enough to justify the money I spent.
I'm going back to being PC only after this generation..

If ps6 launches end of next year as a potato with just double ps5 pro performance it will be first amateur console I don't buy at launch (well ps5 took some getting due to demand). And will wait for ps6 pro.

Fingers crossed they realise theres plenty of life left in ps5 generation and they throw their previous years old design in the garbage and release something worthy of ps6 name in 2030.

I have a PS5 Pro and am happy with it, in terms of performance and graphics, so no, not really.

If anything the jump from PS6 to PS5 Pro will be smaller than the one from PS5 Pro to PS5, so that really isn't exciting. I really wonder what Sony will do to sell this thing.

One good thing about nextgen is that 8k is not a thing, there will be no jump in res, just 1080p and up + newest fsr upsacling to 4k so resources won't be eaten by pixels increase. Sadly jump in hw performance will be lowest ever been.

And the prices will be the highest they've ever been too!

I am more for the simple fact that I skipped this gen and have relied on GFN and steamdeck. I'd prefer to keep going with this until a new system releases that I want. I was interested in steam machine until I seen the specs. I might get the new Xbox, still not sure though.

Yes.

Yes. Although, like most here, I do believe the concept of generational leaps is over we do need more powerfull hardware. UE5 is chugging along on PS5 (Pro) hardware at 60fps.

Definitely Not... this gen was a first party joke by Sony ... and now you want to try and sell me another console ? ... nop.. bring me the games, give me a sizeable update over my Pro .. and than we can talk about a new console.. maybe 29/30 untill then good luck.

First time in my life that I do not care about a new generation. (43 years old if that matters)

Not to mention how expensive next gen could possibly be.

I had a reason to buy a PS5 and a Series X - backwards compatibility. I moved to PC in 2014 so there were a lot of PS4 titles I missed out on, and it was nice being able to play my 360 collection especially when friends come round.

There is absolutely no reason to buy a PS6.

I will always buy the newest generation of consoles. I used to buy every one, but now I'll only get PlayStation and Nintendo.

Sony is getting so good with their PSSR tech that I feel like I'll fade away from PC gaming, as it'll be "good enough" for me.

I'm not super excited like I used to be, though. Just feels like "yeah I'll buy it".

I'll always be excited about shiny new hardware, but at the end of the day it's just some other plastic box sitting under your TV without the games there to really show it off. When I see some compelling gameplay that looks unlike anything we've seen so far, my wallet will be ready, but this gen has been very underwhelming so far.

Not really hyped for a new generation, given the higher cost to get diminished return in graphics.

Now with AI artificially raising the cost of memory, seems like that will only neuter what we'd get unless the generation can last longer until memory availability improves.

I'm also less impressed with first-party releases this gen vs any other, so they're not convincing me I need to spend more money on new boxes.

Whenever the PS6 launches, ill add at least a year to the launch date, before I purchase. Back in the day, there was a reason to buy a new console day 1, as there were games made specifically for it, you couldn't get on the old system.

Not the case anymore. Why rush to buy, for no reason?

Couldn't care less

This seems way too fast. Anyone expecting some graphical revolution is going to be sorely disappointed

Honestly? I'd be happy if this current generation lasted another 15 years

Nope. I will probably buy one, simply because I'm a PS-only guy and like to have the best version of the hardware, but I don't expect much of an upgrade over PS5 Pro.

Maybe once the console is revealed and we are closer to the release date, I'll get excited, but at this point, I am not.

I don't get "hyped" for anything gaming-related anymore.

As for next gen, I am already disenchanted about it. People are so worried about when but the real issues are going to be specs and price.

PS5 was $500.
PS5 Pro was $750 without a disc drive.
Can a PS6 launch with a disc drive and at or beyond the specs of a Pro but for $500? $600? Or did PS5 Pro set a new barrier for Sony specs and pricing?
Does Xbox launch a PC-console hybrid that's stronger and more expensive than a launch model PS6?
Does PS6 try to compete with Xbox by going PC-hybrid also?
If not, does a PS6 mid-gen upgrade/refresh compete with whatever Xbox launches as their base console?
(I'm not buying an Xbox for the foreseeable future, but obviously their plans and Sony's can have an effect on one another, hence the mention.)

Personally, I am considering the upgrade to a PS5 Pro now and riding that out into PS6 gen. But I'd hate to spend $900 on a Pro and then PS6 launches with great specs and at a reasonable price. However, the recent chip and memory stock availability and pricing have also changed that conversation. It's a shitty time to be a console user.

Or did PS5 Pro set a new barrier for Sony specs and pricing?
PS5 Pro sales are a tiny percentage of the PS base. There's no way anybody sees the Pro price as the new normal. I don't think even Sony is keen to repeat the PS3 launch price spectacle at this point. You can get away with some premium pricing on things like Pro consoles that just don't transfer to the base experience.

I love new tech so yes I am but not craving it like mad. I'm sure once we get GTA 6 at 30 fps, we'll be begging for next gen consoles.

PS5 was more expensive than PS4 Pro, but yea it's tough tio believe ps6 will be $800 at launch.

Sony doesn't have to compete with Xbox anymore. Xbox is out of the game, and a joke.

It's not gonna have a disc drive. You're going to have to buy it separately.

I think it'll be $799.

Yes

I do think there will be a Pro model. Maybe there will be a cheaper model too.

No. Its another round of hardware, 2-3 years of cross-gen, in year 4 you'll get a mid-cycle system that largely does what the launch systems initially promised. You'll get your usual assortment of homogenized AAAs, a few genuine gems sprinkled in, the inevitable live service flops, and studios that close even after a commercial hit. I find joy in specific games and IPs but I couldn't give less of a shit about the next hardware because I don't expect the games to be anything but further refinements of what we're playing now. This is my main hobby so I'll be there in some form, but its hardly 'exciting'.

Thats not even getting into the conversation of whatever 'market conditions' will be in place affecting everything.

PS6 could well release with both digital and disc drive versions, just like PS5 is available today. And then optional disc drive available to add onto digital version to convert. Could even use the same disc drive attachment as PS5 but thats probably wishful thinking.

I'm excited to see what they bring to the table, but I'm not sure I'll ever feel the need to buy in. This gen was a flop for me, so I have little faith in next gen turning it around.

Steam Deck/Steam Box is probably the hardware I'm most interested in at this point, and I'm very curious about the PS6 handheld (it's just that their first party output is so unappealing that I don't feel good about actually buying into their ecosystem).

Not really looking forward to it. I think it would be better to extend the generation out several more years beyond 2030.
Sony isn't releasing stuff on PC anymore so nothing to look forward to there.
Nintendo keeps getting more and more expensive.
Xbox is, well, at least they are doing PC stuff, I don't expect anything big or exciting from their games anymore.

PC PC PC is where I'm at. Consoles might get skipped completely this next generation.

It's the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on a Pro, i wish Sony would come out and show something or give some indication on whether or not the PS6 is arriving in 2027, it it's pushed back to 2028 I could justify a Pro if it's coming out next year, it would be an utter waste of money as the tech especially around RT should be a substantial leap over the Pro

Not really, I feel like the PS5 (and its potential huge crossgen period) + Switch 2 will carry me without much effort until 2030 maybe

Not at all. The biggest upgrade from last gen was SSDs. Now hit a wall really. The only pro will be playing games like GTA at 60fps but I don't care.

Switch 2 is really good IMO and the only piece of hardware I'm looking forward to now is Steam Deck 2 with an Oled screen
