Disney ALLEGEDLY considering buying Epic Games & Fortnite.

How do they have money for it? Aren't their parks hurting and haven't there movies/shows been largely dramatically underperforming for the past 4 years?
You can structure deals using cash, borrowing, stock, outside financing, any combination of the above.

Borrowing isn't quite as popular as it used to be because of interest rates but you don't actually need to write them a check for the value drawn from your bank account.

Honestly probably a good time to cash out for Tim. Fortnite won't be as popular as it was a few years ago ever again.

Fuck Fortnite and Epic store, although closing the store, considering that we may lose access to the in-library games, would lead to a law suit of Epic proportions.

What really worries me is to have Disney in charge of the most used game engine around the industry. This has the potential to derail the entire industry.

What a retarded clickbait article. It says that some execs are against in the same paragraph. And most if it sounds completely speculative. And it's not like they can just buy it, since Timmy is a majority owner.

I'm sure Disney wants to own one of the biggest engines and games on the market. But they've shown that they're not competent enough to run their own game companies. They managed to kill Disney Infinity through overproduction of physical figures. The game (and toys) did really well. They just created too many of characters that didn't sell well. And that was enough for them to decide to kill it outright. Could've just gotten out of the figures stuff and sold the characters digitally with the 4th game.

Especially ironic given how Disney Infinity was building proto-version of the metaverse that everyone seems to be chasing now. They had the individual adventures based on different IP's. Custom maps/map creator. Racing games. Fighting games. Etc. Pure incompetence.

Doubt Tim would sell. Now he was a power, pulpit, and occasionally gets attention. Without Epic, he'd just be one of many rich cunts.

Disney has already shown that they don't know how to manage their own gaming studios and they have also shown that gaming department will be the first thing they cut when things get rough.

Disney Infinity is proof of both.

Title is written in current tense but the article is referencing past tense.

They're not considering, they had considered.

There's a big difference between how much money companies make, how much they want to make, and how much they're projected to make. If you make a hundred million in profits one year, if you don't make a hundred and ten next year, you're a failure.

Would be a seemingly circular level of vampire-ism for disney. Plus that would be some overlap of needing to buyout tencents stake.

They did make investments into using UE5 over the last couple years and i think a lot of that was driven by their theme parks division because there was a whole disney-park mode for fotnite teased a couple years ago when they were trying a new focus on their villain roster at D23. It resulted in some skins but not much more then that.

Idk, there has been some posts from fired and anonymous Epic employees over the last week that mentioned that internally there is a lot of middle management responsible for a lot of fault being thrown around that has resulted in all these layoffs.

After the jeff Kaplan stuff talking about those overwatch days and knowing how front facing Igre was in his book about swiping up star wars from George Lucas, im not surprised there are disney suits salivating over the idea of taking over epic. Just dont want that for anybody these days.

So no more free games… Thats what im hearing
Instead of giving away free games, they should add them to Disney+ to make it the...... Netflix of Gaming.

Amazon already has Luna included with Prime. Paramount will take over Warner Bros Interactive and add their games to Paramount+. And Netflix dabbles in mobile gaming. Apple has Arcade. All major movies/TV streaming services are getting involved in gaming, so this would be perfect for Disney.

Then we will probably see the end of weekly free games.
Which will probably mean the death of epic store.
