If you give it a PS6 name, there will be PR and legal repercussions if a PS6 game is not released on it.
If there is expectation that all games will be released on it, what will happen when the PS7 is eventually released? Does it mean cross-gen with PS6 will have the "PS6P" as the least common denominator in 2035-2042? This handheld will be too weak by then.

I like my "Play5tation Portable" way better. "P5 Portable" would be super accurate to its abilities as well.

The PR argument has more weight than the legal one. There's no precedent nor legislation that would enforce this, so good luck to whoever might try to sue them over that. Courts generally ere on the side of common sense when it comes to end of life expectations.

also all games will release on it. they have to guarantee parity or people will not trust it.
Sony has completely butchered the support for their last 3 systems that aren't a mainline PS console (Vita, PSVR, PSVR2) so without a guarantee of full parity, people will not trust its longevity

Because it implies it will play PS6 games portably.
I'm all for it to be called PS6 portable handheld lite or whatever. I just hope it won't still be supported when PS7 and PS6 become cross-gen next next gen.

it will be supported for as long as the PS6 gets games. they have to guarantee that, otherwise noone will trust it.
you can't trust the creators of the PSVita without tying it 100% to the home console

I mention this twice already, but PS5P is what i will go with.
The reality is that Cross-gen will last a long time for PS6, which mean nearly everything was going to run on PS5 anyway. By the time cross-gen ends, the Portable would struggle to run REAL PS6 games. But that would be 7-8 years away so why shackle the PS6 ecosystem to a handheld?
I would prefer to believe that, with a struggle to shrink the die for PS5, and the multiple price increases, that the PSHand-Held would be best sold as the cheaper SKU of the PS5. They couldn't drop the price like they used to, the only real option is to use weaker hardware that runs on a smaller screen and thus compensate for the weakness. The PS5P would basically lower the price floor for PS5 but would not get in the way of PS6 game development in the long run.
I know my wishes don't count for much, but it just seems so obvious on my end.

It will do that WITH DEV EFFORT. That effort wont be automatic, nor feasible for all PS6 games.
With PS5 games, devs are being coerced to provide "low power mode" for all their PS5 games, but reportedly the compliance isn't great. And doing LP mode for PS5 games is far easier than doing it for PS6 games that aren't cross platform titles with PS5.

I don't think that's smart. Many associate the Portal with a pointless gimmick. It either needs the name of a well-known real handheld or something completely new.

With PS6 games, we ain't getting cross buy for free. You will get combo discount. But not free. It will take too much dev work to get a true PS6 game to run well on this handheld. PS5/6 cross gen title will simply run the PS5 low power version to run on the handheld.
Imma bet you, we wont even get PS5 games in our library to run for free on the habdheld. We will have to pay something like $10 for the Low Power Mode version download.
Only the PS4 games in our library will run for free on the handheld is my prediction, since it will take zero effort on developer's part.

You're adding the utility of being a hybrid to it. It also can be made for up to 150$ cheaper than base PS5. Being cheaper is also value.
XSS also didn't really beat XOX in everything. That's just moore's law. If they want every playstation to be a generational improvement, that means by the time PS7 is here it's completely irrelevant because 80% of the playerbase are on an older console or PS7e or PS7 Portable.
The important thing is to learn from the failures of Series S. The idea of a cheap console is not bad. It's just important to apply what Steve jobs said: don't sell junk.
It's better to just rebrand for the post moore's law era. Targeting specific pricing points.
PC is also suffering from this, transistor/$ rising hurts like hell:
1070 beat 980 Ti
2070S matched 1080 Ti
3070 matched 2080 Ti
4070S matched 3080 Ti
5070 could only match 4070 Ti in Raster and actually loses in PT.

Nah bro, I'm kinda with it. I just dont know if 3rd party and core gamer support will be strong enough to make this work financially.
[EDIT] on further thought, I think something that even when docked, can't out perform base PS5 in raster shouldn't be given a moniker of PS6. I suppose FSR5/PSSR3 could close the gap, but it would struggle to match the base PS5 in bunch of circumstances...
