Sony makes like %3 of its revenue on PC, far easier to mask this small deficit to shareholders if a game overperforms than for Microsoft to suddenly explain why they are turning their back on what could be %30-40 of their paying userbase.Pretty sure Sony is doing this with their backtracking on PC ports. They can and should do it…
It's mostly to mock him, but he's connected enough to be regularly in the game leaks rotation. It's funny how this guy gets three threads on the first page despite his horrible track record.
Isn't selling overpriced boxes the core business model of Sony, though? And they seem to be making bank.Keep making PC versions and it will be fine.
Forcing customers to get $600 box to play a few games is kinda lame at this point.
Lots of people don't have a pc.
"Do you want to be an ecosystem company first or do you want to be a publisher company first?"
I really don't understand why we still bring attention to this guy over here.![]()
Sure thing Jez.
So... like what they had been doing up until 2024 or so? Before they started releasing their games on PS? How did that work for them?Well, xbox + pc is better than making some games exclusive to xbox.
It's like people don't get what no monopoly really means in this case.I would prefer if it were available everywhere. More choice for me.
But players need to ensure no monopoly. Let them compete. There needs to be a chance to succeed for other stores.
But why did those changes happen in the first place? Cause everything seems like it came from ms execs that are still there. The hyperbole runs insanely strongly in these threads, but Microsoft just fired the top two executives in their gaming division with zero warning. You can assume that the plan is to change direction and to undo at least some of what was happening.
So... who do you think is the actual highest-grossing video game company in the world... with regards to profits? That's definitely the question to be decided, and by now they could already know where it's best for them to continue after several years of testing the effects, cost and pros of bringing their games to other console platforms.
I remember that Microsoft's goal with the massive acquisition of studios and publishers was "to become the highest-grossing video game company in the world"... and that's not possible without revenue from hardware and what it's users generate.
A broken clock is right twice a day. It's mostly to mock him, but he's connected enough to be regularly in the game leaks rotation.
Sony / Nintendo go hardcore in trying to sell their hardware. Anyone that can potentially buy one, they try to get to them. Same cannot be said about xbox. That limits them to 60-80 million if all goes perfectly for them.Isn't selling overpriced boxes the core business model of Sony, though? And they seem to be making bank.
Congratulations. What you said right here is 100% wrong. Epic Games Store has cost Epic soooo much money.Xbox + Microsoft Store could work. I would extend that to Nintendo and maybe PS, but Steam is the big elephant in the room that the console manufacturers cannot ignore.
Epic Games are making profit by keeping their games to their storefront on PC and releasing on console.
Steam is the big elephant in the room that the console manufacturers cannot ignore.
With exclusives, they will also get reviewers to say good things about them. This would only make sense if their games raise the bar in quality or mass appeal. Being exclusive means nothing if you mostly produce "okish" kind of games. In their current portfolio, only COD would add great value as exclusive.
If MS could actually sell hardware and had a userbase even slightly close to what PS and Nintendo have, you would say the complete opposite. My topic on Sony and Microsoft dropping Steam is about to age like fine wine. We don't need monopolies
The more I think about it, the less convinced I am about the positive impact of Game Pass for Xbox.Sadly, while I would love for every game to be available on every major storefront and console, players have shown that they will always choose the established ecosystem. In this case, it's Steam for PC and PlayStation for console. Nintendo and Xbox to an extent had to compete using blue ocean strategies - handheld hybrids, exclusive Nintendo games, and for Xbox's case, Game Pass.
That's not true. Which (good) exclusive has been released during the first year of the Xbox Series X|S?LOL... no one was buying their console when they had exclusives.
They cannot magically wave a wand and make all of the ABK games exclusive unless they want to end up dragged into yet another anti-trust suit. Not only that, but they'd be destroying themselves because the vast majority of ABK game sales are on PlayStation platforms.
Xbox fucked themselves with $80bn in M&A and now they need to show a profit from it. They won't do that by limiting the audience to the lowest console install base and PC Bros.
They tried all this and failed miserably...With exclusives, they will also get reviewers to say good things about them.
Or make award bait stuff.
Isn't too hard.
Yet, Xbox faithful are dumb enought argue that Sony should put their exclusives on Xbox "as a fair trade"If MS could actually sell hardware and had a userbase even slightly close to what PS and Nintendo have, you would say the complete opposite.
MS NEED other platforms like Steam, PS, and Nintendo, but those platforms do NOT need MS.
That's the brutal truth here.
It's not like we got a Paul Tassi article about itYet, Xbox faithful are dumb enought argue that Sony should put their exclusives on Xbox "as a fair trade"
That is comedy gold in dumbassery

Better than the sales on Xbox.I'm very curious what the numbers / sales on PlayStation look like for all the games that aren't Forza.
This is the way to go for them. Make games available first on Xbox / Xbox app then roll out to PS5. If I were them I'd even go cheaper on Xbox. Make it the affordable place for people to play, what have they got to lose. The only thing MS are considering is what is the sweet spot in terms of day and date versus delay for release on PS. That is up for debate. Not full exclusivity.
Money., what have they got to lose.
They are not backtracking on what's actually selling on PC though, only on games which they themselves have sent to die there.Pretty sure Sony is doing this with their backtracking on PC ports. They can and should do it…
Unless you have data this is just console warring. I want to see the data. I'm not interested in console war takes. But cold hard factual data is something I'm interested in here.Better than the sales on Xbox.
CoD is the only franchise they are legally obligated to bring over, but even then they probably have some wiggle room with this because it still isn't on Nintendo.Wasn't there also initially legal concerns when they first purchased all these publishers and developers that they would remove these titles from other platforms?
Meaning Call of Duty, Overwatch, Starfield, etc. from Playstation and PC?
Is it even legal from now at this point to put all these franchises exclusively on one console or storefront?
It seems like they've chosen to go down the publisher route.
They succeeded in 360 era. They tried all this and failed miserably...
"isnt too hard"
So... who do you think is the actual highest-grossing video game company in the world... with regards to profits?
I can give you a hint.... It's not PlayStation. They do generate the most revenue, though. But they are only second in profits.
Because they're killing it with market share right nowMoney.
There's a signed agreement with Sony for Call of Duty on PlayStation for 10 years, and a legal commitment to the competition authorities... In other words, it could happen with other games, but not with Call of Duty.Be pretty funny if MS held back stuff like COD, etc for PC and Nintendo only.
I mean, Playstation fans are telling us how wonderful it is that Sony's first party stuff is no longer coming to PC and is PS exclusive now.
