Twilight Princess PC Port new build; damn near perfect

It's wild to see just how far the dev has pushed this port in under a month. Still no firm "done" date but this is feeling very mature and polished in its current state and considering the port has just been in development for a handful of months now it's even more impressive

Calling this a 'PC port' is misleading

A proper port is done by the original devs, adapting the original game for another platform

This 'new build' is a fan-made reimplementation or unofficial remake. Not a port.

There's something about wolf link, twilight merging with hyrule, I could play TP hours at a time with no concern and a lot of the dungeons are next level.

It's an unofficial port off the back of a decomp. Just like every other unofficial PC port off the back of a decomp that is also referred to as a PC port. One example is SoH's FAQ:
https://www.shipofharkinian.com/faq

Calling this a remake is more misleading, really.

Despite bitching about TP in another thread I'm excited about this. A port is exactly what this game needs so I can play the dungeons without dealing with the rest of the sleep-inducing busy work that goes on forever.

Unlike OOT, this game is in dire need of gameplay mods to remove or alter the many awful parts it contains. While the good parts are fucking fantastic, I still never want to replay TP.

no its def a port. Its a code port directly from the decompiled source code. Not a remake nor a reimplementation

Its directly from the source code decompiled from the GameCube disc. That's the definition of a port

So no awful waggle controls? Nice.

I get that people call these decomp-based projects "ports," but that's not accurate.

A true port is done by the original developers adapting the original build

These are fan-made reimplementations.

Calling them ports just because everyone does it doesn't make it correct

Words matter.

Words do matter, but when clarification is needed putting a word in front of port to is enough for most. Context also matters, and on VGE's channel where he talks about decomps you know it isn't an official port. I don't think anyone that gets this far is going to be misled.

If anything calling it a fan port would serve to mislead as to its quality, because it sort of implies a pale imitation. But these decomp/recomp projects are anything but imitations, being 1:1 recreations using original assets as a baseline and going above and beyond what any developer on a time and financial budget can or would do. Compare SM64 on PC to Nintendo's anniversary effort around the same time, for example.

fans are outdoing Nintendo's paltry efforts at every turn

Zelda's Prime 4 moment. What a disappointment and waste of capable developers.

Or you're just talkin out your ass and coming up with your own definition because you're pissy about the word "port".

Will probably be an Android port in the near future too. Handy for those with Android based handhelds/phones.

Game isn't for me though. I never finished the game back during release. Coming from OoT/MM, it felt like a major downgrade.

That's pedantic and wrong.
With your criteria one of the only true ports in the world would be Snow Bros on the Megadrive as it was ported by Toaplan, the original arcade devs. Sony's PC ports don't quality as ports either because Nixxes did the work, not the original studios.
Even if Nintendo EAD made a modern Twilight Princess port themselves, it would still be a port of Theseus.

Now do Wind Waker, please.
It's going to happen. Now that TP is done, it looks like Windwaker is the next Zelda getting decompiled at full speed. It'll probably be Skyward Sword after that.

According to this site, it's around 61% now! As reference I saw TP at like 40%-50% around this time last year.

Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda. Yes it was a retread of Ocarina but it had some truly excellent dungeons. I'd like to see the next mainline Zelda game incorporate some of this.

Dusk is a PC port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess brought to you by a collaboration between members from the Twilight Princess Decompilation team, the Twilight Princess speedrunning community, and the Aurora team: Twilit Realm

This literally doesn't matter. Whether it's done by the original developers or not, taking code from one device to another would be porting the code. I get where you're coming from, but no one will care one way or another. It's the closest thing to a "port" to what is considered to be a port. It's just easier this way. Whether it's right or not won't matter to most people.

Back on subject: I am always excited for more Zelda on PC and I will definitely be trying this out closer to it's release.

I want Twilight Princess to come to Switch 2, with full 60 fps...but if Nintendo drags their heels on this....I could see myself playing this way.

Supposedly Nintento has ports of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess ready to go, but are saving them for a rainy day.

GAF we need someone to make a thread with all the modern remakes or fan made games like these with links to the projects and keep it updated!

Might be your time to shine baby!

So how are they going to release this in a legal way?, because releasing it in a playable state open source is still distributing the original source code and the moment they go live nintendo will send out their ninjas or am i missing something here ?

The few "PC ports" I've tried still require you to provide the original game's files.

Are you unfamiliar about Decompilation projects? Your not simply downloading the whole game and hitting Run on an .exe

- It's perfectly legal to backup your own ROMs
- In the US Decompilation projects like this are legal for non-commercial use and non-commercial distribution
- More often than not but more specially Nintendo Decompilation projects require you to provide your own ROM to run the decompiled game
- There are plenty of Nintendo Decompilation projects that have been available for download for over a year now without any action from Nintendo

Such Nintendo Decompilation projects include:
- Mario Party 4
- Mario Kart 64
- Star Fox 64
- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario World
- Super Metroid
- The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
- The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
- The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
- The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening
- The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
- The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (mentioned in this thread)

I mean, the best way to play OOT right now is to play it on PC using either one of the Recomps or Ship of Harkinian. With mod support and the huge amount of options to customize the game the way you want (and randomizer), that is the best way to play it.

Not knocking the Switch 2 or anything, but once TP comes out on PC, that will be the best way to play that game.

Well the HD version shortened the boring light gathering sections at least. That's the only thing I hated about the original.

Basically this, unless they make a full remake with new visuals, QoL and improved gameplay. Like Thousand Year Door or Link's Awakening.
But it's likely going to be emulated and included with NSO.

New trailer for the Courage Reborn port. Teases mobile and a Switch homebrew port.
Misspelled Princess in the video thumbnail (oops!).

Ive finally seen these OOT showcases and they have more and more excited for the rumored remake.
