You clearly have never run a business or have no understanding of how things work do you?

Trying again and again costs money. When those efforts fail, studios get closed and thousands of layoffs happen.

That's the true tragedy of Phil Spencer…his bad decisions cost people their jobs.

Maybe Asha can convince the brass to try things again.

I think the market is driven by exclusives. It would be smart to have big good exclusives to drive console sales. Just ask Nintendo, the IP drives sales of the box. Xbox needs IP to sell the box.
 
There arent going to be enough Xbox Helix out there for the games to be successful.

They should keep it timed exclusive at worst otherwise just do day and date.
 
I think it would be smart of MS to keep some games exclusive. They can't keep most of the big ones exclusive -- it would hurt the bottom line too much. But they can keep the occasional big game exclusive, or at least timed exclusive. They can also keep some smaller titles exclusive.

That would help shore up the flagging morale on the Xbox side, "solidify the base" so to speak. It would also give people some reason to buy Xbox hardware (besides their old library and Steam access).

Gamepass will save them.

They need to invest responsibly but for maximum impact.

They can do it.

Some of you are afraid they might try and it might work. MS has a massive warchest afterall.
 
Besides the 1 (ONE!) tweet where Jez said that MS were not porting games to PS, can anyone point out any other examples of him being outrageously wrong?

Cause every thread is with him is just "lol he has such a bad track record, he gets everything wrong" and when you ask, it's literally just that one time he got wrong lol. In fact he has a pretty solid track record. Just at the top of my head he leaked Xbox Series S, its 299$ price, Horizon Zero Dawn coming to PC, Avalanche's Contraband...

I've appreciated a few of the MS games on PS but I understand the importance of exclusivity so I wouldn't blame them for changing tact. Personally speaking though, I would rather live without them than get another Xbox console.
 
I dont get why people believe that Microsoft would lock their games to a dying console again.
Its not going to happen.
People should accept that Microsoft is Multiplatform now.
 
Exclusive to what? Their next "console" is a dressed up windows PC. Windows store exclusivity? Good luck with that.

First of all, the source is garbage. Also, Xbox already tried this for years and ended up with nobody buying games on Xbox anymore because of it, not only because their games are on Game Pass but because 95% of the games are of dubious quality.... and many are filler. That doesn't make any sense to them, it's like going back to square one of what they're trying now hoping for a different result lol

Yes, Windows Store exclusivity (no Steam). Downloading it from another store is far easier than spending another $700 on a console.

Xbox had exclusive IP and no one bought their consoles. Halo and Gears ceased being system sellers a decade ago or more. Forza Horizon was their only bright spot. So Xbox resorted to spending tens of billions in M&A gobbling up Zenimax/Bethesda and ABK. Which hasn't translated into any better sales. In only a few short quarters, they've turned the ABK acquisition into a net loss for the gaming division. Now it's time to pay the piper within the company. Exclusivity only works if there's a large enough audience to make exclusivity profitable. Xbox doesn't have that audience and their reliance on Game Pass for the last eight years has conditioned their most loyal fans to either not buy games or only buy them when they can get them cheaply via Game Pass subscriber discounts.

Regarding Nintendo, the Switch 2 sold half as many hardware units in six months (17.3 million) as Xbox has sold Series consoles in five years (34 million), and most of those sales came when the only exclusive the Switch 2 had was Mario Kart World.

And Satya has made it painfully clear that said "warchest" is designated for all things AI.

Not gaming.
Not Windows or Office.
Copilot and AI and Azure integration with both.

I suspect they'll keep trying to have it both ways. Continuing with hardware gives their current console customers a way to keep playing their libraries and Game Pass (if they have it). I realize the number of console users has declined but it's still a decent number. That's a lot of revenue to just suddenly cut off. I also don't recall if we've received a firm answer about paying for online with their next device so there's potentially that too.

As for the exclusivity issue, never say never, but it seems unlikely. As much as MS and its influencers clown around on social media, the fact remains they are a business that isn't inclined towards losing money, especially in easily avoidable ways. I think that was the reasoning behind discarding exclusivity to begin with and nothing has materially changed to give them reason to back off from that decision. If anything, with all their studios, it would be foolish to stop porting to Sony and Nintendo and/or make their PC releases exclusive to their own store. Time will tell, but Jez and his ilk often seem to talk about what they would 'like' to happen as opposed to what is or will happen.

That's a multi year chain of consequences with closed studios left and right to in the end just no longer have access to their games.

A quicker way to not have access to them is to just not buy them.

They've already tried that, their PC ports for several years were Microsoft Store exclusives. And everything bombed. That's why they're day 1 on Steam now.

If they're doing this they need to ignore sales figures completely, nobody with a calculator can ever be allowed to look at any sales numbers….

Another strategy is to change course and have Gamepass everywhere, on PlayStation, Switch 2, SteamOS, PC, Xbox, iOS, Android. Then do Gamepass exclusives. Pump out GP exclusive games and aim to grow subscription numbers instead of sales numbers.
 
But the next hardware is basically a PC, so what's the idea here? Making it exclusive to the PC Microsoft Store? Because if that's the case, fine. Now if I need to buy some hardware that Microsoft sells, then that's a no-go for me.

There's no economical reason for Sony or Nintendo to allow it on their platforms - not then and not now. That's why we haven't seen it be on anything other than PC and Xbox and I doubt that will change.
 
The thing is - they basically need a complete re-launch. In Scandinavia Xbox is not sold anymore for example, except by import.

The word "experimental" will never meet the word "AAA", they are fundamentally different things.

Nobody in their right mind "experiments" with a budget >100m, either you are a trillionaire and have no concept of money, or you are just plain waffling.

Feels to me like they don't have a concrete plan to push behind and they are listening to the absolute worst people to listen to (Xbox influencers).

If Xbox is to thrive in any way as a platform it will be via attracting people who are NOT already on the platform, not the ones who are fighting the good console war on its behalf everyday, these guys you will have as customers on anything you slap an Xbox logo on.

I agree. Never is never until it isn't. But I have a real hard time imagining that MS has ANY interest in allowing Xbox to become a money sink when theyve spent the last few years making moves to make it profitable. I don't see how you convince shareholders that it is a worthwhile investment.

I don't think MS can wait for Project Helix to start their push. They need to start NOW as in right now. They need to drastically discount their consoles to fire sale prices ( and I mean dirt cheap so that it's important to ignore), bundle 6 months of Gamepass, market the fuck out of it..,even that I don't think would save them much.

That would cost a fuck ton of money but that is what it will take to might save Xbox.

If Asha can convince tge brass to do that then she has my respect.
