They'll never admit it directly, but they know no one gives a shit about the new trilogy.
Even kids seems to not care. Anecdotally in recent years I've browsed through the toy aisle a couple of times a year to get presents for my niece and nephew, and almost all the Star Wars merch/toys that stores are stocking is based on episode 1-6. The only thing from the Disney era that has any relevance is The Mandalorian (specially Grogu).

From my point of view, Star Wars is very successful video game I.P. with a good series of video games, spanning multiple genres and generations. The I.P. might even be remembered more for this years down the line.

I can probably name 3 times as many good SW video games as I can TV and movie series. It has been that way since the prequel trilogy.

We're about to have the following soon: A Star Wars X-com game, a Star Wars Telltale style narrative game with branching storylines (Eclipse), Fate of the Old Republic WRPG (FOTOR), Jedi Survivor Sequel (Part 3), and Star Wars Galactic Racer.

I think once more people come to this realization like I did, the more they'll look forward to the games instead.

Yeah Disney has killed my interest in SW movies and TV, but give me a good SW game and I'm still in.
The world of SW is cool. The Jedi, Lightsabers, vehicles, weapons, droids, clones, locations, races, etc are all cool and serve as a good foundation to build a game around.
It's almost impressive how Disney has botched most of their movies and Tv shows.

Time travel using the "World Between Worlds"

in Star Wars Rebels, so they have a canonical reason they can use to change the sequels if they wanted to.

That is the messier option though. I'd rather they just leave the Skywalker Saga completely alone after Mando&Grogu and let it all be a merch-grab.

My bet: Starfighter re-commits to the Sequel Trilogy timeline.

Speaking of the older movies, I was watching the first trailer for Star Wars the other day. Vivaldi instead of Williams, and lacking some effects. It has a much darker tone.

Yeah, the last trilogy should have gone this direction - with Grand Admiral Thrawn. Such an epic character. They already had so much cool worldbuilding in the universe. Well, before they eviscerated the extended universe, anyway.. wtf. So much stuff - gone in an instant. As if a million voices all cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

Dark Forces and Jedi Knight were some of my favorite games. Did a replay of Jedi Knight a couple years back - still so good IMO. Like that style and era of games, particularly the geometry and visual style of environments.

Star Wars Rebellion is another personal favorite.

I saw TFA in theaters with an ex girlfriend. Iirc it was her second screening and my first (and last). Exiting the cinema together after the credits, I articulated my disappointment by listing, in detail, the plot points, scenes and shots that were copied from the original trilogy. She was really annoyed with me and said my frustration made it more difficult for her to enjoy something she liked, and also made unnecessarily heavy what she had hoped would be an evening of pleasant escapism from her daily grind.

I think that conversation encapsulates the differing attitudes towards Disney's trilogy.

Ruin Johnson is a great director just a very bad writer. Visually , Last Jedi is the best of the sequel trilogy by a long shot. Has the most physical props, sets, and variety of costumes.

What I find amazing about the Heir to the Empire, is it was written before the sequels, before Lucas really had much locked down. Zhan got so much right overall, obviously a few small errors, but overall it all made sense. Zhan's Outbound Flight is maybe my favourite of his novels.

These books and Shadows of the empire (book and game) form my head cannon. It's amzing how much love Dash, Mara, Katarn get all these years later.

Without Hier to the empire, I'm not sure we would have ever gotten the prequels (is that good or bad).

Maybe you mean the later Kevin Herbert books being influenced by Star Wars EU stuff, but Frank....that guy was one of the OG epic space opera writers and predates Star Wars by like a decade.

Having a series with different directors each putting their own spin on it isn't necessarily a bad idea. It worked amazingly well for Harry Potter.

Problem is the whole company culture led by Kathleen Kennedy. And she picked the worst possible directors.

JJ Abrams only knows how to make safe, derivative, mediocre slop.

And don't forget they originally had Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) for Episode 9. Hard to imagine, but I bet it would've been even worse if they left him in charge.

Kylo did have potential but he became a sacrifice to a girlboss aka Rey, who was a boring character that nobody liked. Kylo, though, could have an amazing arc with proper writers. Even cliche arcs would probably work like he were to develop becoming more and more evil, before being stopped maybe by ghost of Vader himself or something. But all the previous era characters were sacrificed in attempt to push new characters and then sacrifice those new characters in favor of "the force is female" etc.

I honestly aways though it was a series episode turning into a movie, just like Star Trek section 31. Since the very begining this does not like a movie to me at all.

I'm overall good at getting a general feel and vibe for what kind movie and story I'm about to watch from trailers. But with this one it feels like they're just throwing a lot of stuff on the wall. It feels like I'm watching a trailer for a few episodes from a season. There doesn't seem to be anything motivating or pushing the story forward, at all.

And when I look at the sfx and cinematography it also doesn't feel like cinema. This may be nice to watch on a lazy Sunday on D+, but absolutely not something I'd shell out the price of a ticket for. The scene where Luke goes berserk on those droids on the ship was far more exciting than anything teased here.

The OG movies weren't space operas at their core, they were adventure movies.

Somehow this got forgotten with everything that came after. Even when they did a desert scene in the OG they spiced it up with an alien creature.

Imagination was lost in the later movies and every planet just became deserts.

Fixed. We have been going back to Tattooine far too often which, like you said, stifled imagination.

It was one thing I enjoyed about most of the Star Wars: Visions short films. They were attempting to actually expand the galaxy (though it was still a bit lightsaber-heavy).
