Redfall is three years old... and almost everyone has forgotten about it

Ah the game an old friend told me he loved and didn't get a single achievement in. That game. I forgot all about it.

A reminder of just how bad game evaluation was under Phil Spencer and still is under Matt Booty. Took a matter of minutes in game to conclude that it was far from ready for release. It was a broken mess. And yet Phil Spencer blamed MS internal reviews saying they scored it 2 points higher than media review scores. The fact that Spencer and Booty couldn't see how bad things were for themselves was telling. How Matt Booty still has a job, much less still leading Microsoft studios is beyond me. Maybe part of Asha's "learning" should be looking back at failures like this and asking "why did that shit happen?"
From the same people who thought Halo Infinite looked great and ready to launch just because it was in 4K.

Let's also remember that at one point Redfall and Starfield were being pushed as the saviors of Xbox by Xbox diehards. That didn't exactly play out.

I can't speak to Concord as I didn't personally try it, but I can speak to Redfall as I did. I tried it with an open mind too, really wanted to see if the hate was hyperbolic.

Rancid. Absolutely rancid. What a fucking pile of a game. Not one thing in it was well done....not one. That's impressive in and of itself in a way.
I got to experience both. Concord is ridiculous trash, and Redfall is ridiculous trash and broken.

Still havent played it lol.
Not really sure what the point of this thread is though, a lot of games 3 years old are forgotten, games better than this one.
Did you read the OP? Because TGA tweeted it and there might apparently be something next August related to it.

I keep meaning to play this game but it is pretty far down on my list

I think they patched in a way to play single player/offline, right?

Seems like they did

I agree that the tweet is confusing, but the context is Nick bitching about Geoff Keighley because of the perceived Xbox slam. He's saying he better see the same energy for Concords anniversary which would be in august.

Again it's a dumb ass tweet, but he's not teasing a redfall 2 or anything.

Great idea for a game. Never played it but I get the impression art direction isn't the only thing that went wrong. Couldve been cool if it were made different.

Gave this three chances, always gave up after 5 hour mark. The gameplay is just so fucking boring, and there is no story hook or atmosphere to carry it.

Isn't that how things are supposed to go? why are we constantly caring or hanging onto old games to push some quality agenda.

back in the day we just played what we liked and ignored shitty games - go back to doing that.

Good game. I enjoyed it.
Would have been even better if the accountants hadn't forced Arkane to convert their original concept into a GaaS.

Oh I haven't forgot about it. Its just now worth discussing anymore. One of the best devs in the industry with a massive fall from grace.

I mean did anyone power thru and find some goodness in it?

What sucks is I love Arkane and I thought this looked so cool, absolutely loved what I seen with that atmosphere

Asking because I genuinely don't remember: Was this an always-online campaign game? Did they patch it at some point to let you play offline?

Also, is the Steam version functional? I kind of want to pick this up on super deep discount just to see how bad the train wreck is. But only if I can play it alone and offline.

I was somehow able to get a full group together for a co-op playthrough which probably puts me in an elite (??) minority, since I highly doubt most people who even played it were able to convince three others to do so. We were playing it "ironically" our of morbid curiosity, but the game's such a trainwreck that it ended up un-ironically endearing itself to us, enough so that I went back and grinded for the achievements later on (which are also horribly designed, since you can't replay missions, giving only a single chance per playthrough to get some of them). Game's terrible but I can't help but have some love in my heart for this piece of shit.

Played through it in coop after patches, had a good enough time. Atmosphere was pretty cool. Definitely one of those games carried heavily by "fun with friends" where it's incredibly mediocre solo.

Nobody forgot about it. Trust me. Starfield, Redfall, Craig from Halo infinite, lol.

People are just deliberately ignoring them because they want Sony to receive an L so bad after how much Playstation fans laughed at Xbox for their failures, so they overly analyze every game Sony releases.

Oh yeah, cant forget about the canceled Perfect Dark game and Fable character....

God I remember the user reviews for this game.

To make a long story short ... people were not impressed.

Yes. Redfall and Suicide Squad were online only but later patched to make them work offline.

Suicide Squad regularly goes on sale for 95% off but Redfall on the other hand is stuck at 50% for so so long and also has Denuvo.

Yep, this is exactly what he's saying. Nothing deeper to it.

From what I understand The Redfall Team itself wanted the game cancelled while in development but were forced to go on with it. That's kind of mind blowing. If the dev team tells you the game sucks, where is the motivation going to come from to make a good game? Not a good look for Phil or Matt if this is what really went down.

Most of the original dev team quit the studio half way through.

Studio output quality largely depends on the director and designer.

Dishonored series, Prey were designed by Raphael Colantonio who is the co-founder of Arkane and later Dinga Bakaba ( D2, Deathloop ). Prey also has Chris Avellone as of the writers.
This. A thousand times. Consumers have to look at those names closer. Imagine buying the next album by Favorite Band XYZ after, for example, both the guitarist and vocalist. You already know to be cautious. No surprise when the next Led Zeppelin album sucks without Jimmy Page.

Anyway. Still a shame. And Weird West was interesting but I somehow couldn't grasp it and didn't have fun with it. Maybe the console controls just sucked? I remember finding it very cumbersome and unintuitive to play.

The game is actually quite fun. But it should be played on PC. Console version wasn't very good. One of the few games I finished that year
