Nintendo has just reported that the Switch 2 has sold 19.86 million of consoles in their first 10 months on the market. How many units do you think is going to end up selling in their first 12 months?

More than 10m were in first 3 days, slowing down dramatically after that.

20m in 1 day or 10 years won't mean much when you won't reach 100m LTD or barely brush it.

Nintendeen spotted.
It was 6m in 7 weeks. Switch 2 is selling pretty good so far.

Nintendo managed to post $2.3bn profits despite struggling with Switch 2 sales(according to you) and only behind $0.7bn Playstation best ever profits recorded lol.

Nothing of this matters. What matters is that they lost their year forecast (they did not).
Sure this is not the truth and people might have spreading false information, but I want to believe it (slow down please).

Not that impressive when Sony has shifted 16 mil PS5's in 12 months 5+ years into its life-span and without price-cuts.

+$50 by September is the most kindness price increase ever 🤣🤣🤣
Japan is much earlier for some reason. May 25th from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980. UK missing out on the increase, thankfully (or I hope it is lol).
It's insane that they are increasing the OG Switch price by 10k yen as well, since it already had an increase a while back.

Isn't the first year normally some of the lowest numbers?

by the end of year 2 it will have passed the entire lifespan total of ps5 all 6 years worth of sales.

Can't wait for the cope and excuses then.

That is an impressive result.
If Nintendo is able to keep up this pace, it's going to another huge success.
The question is how much is the recent price increase going to affect sales.

Depends on supply constraints, which can kick in at any point in a life-cycle really.

Theoretically year 1 should be the period of highest demand, especially as a successor product, but with the least margin for error on supply-chain and manufacture.

The point being that its a good result, and shows good planning and general organization on Ninty's side. BUT you can't simply assume the sales per year are going to grow proportionately over time or be maintained at a high level over the long-term.

Again, this is not a knock on Nintendo, its just how the market works. Every product hits saturation point at some level, every product has a finite level of units manufacturable in a given year, so there are hard limits to whats possible.
That being said, desirability and demand is what allows for maximization within those hard limits.

For example; were Xbox more competitive would Playstation be holding up sales-wise so well ? Probably not. That failure is helping to uphold demand.

The YoY decline between FY2025/2026 (actual) and FY2026/2027 (estimate) is expected to be ~3.36M units.

But the price change seems to go into effect worldwide in FYQ3, so it'll be interesting to see the Q3 and Q4 results in particular.

well thats not inplace yet and its a $50 price increase compared others with an $100 or more for the competition. ...I think they will be fine. no need to be concerned. for Nintendo that is... :messenger_face_screaming:

By September when the price increase takes effect the Zelda remake and the rest of the lineup will have a launch date, so, i don't expect a big drop in terms of sales. In Japan the Switch 2 is going to continue to be the most attractive console, due the price of the competition.
