Playstation Meeting 2013 Thread: Go Fourth

does the sensor bar move too?

cannot fathom how someone could find that underwhelming, much less use the term "fail". even theverge is saying "sony FAILED to show the console" and then posted major nelsons tweet.

*cue the "do you want her to suck your dick?" clip from reservoir dogs*

im glad some of you are at least liking K:SF. i was convinced they would show their new IP and was disappointed when he said it was KZ, but i must say; that gameplay demo smoked anything i have seen from Crysis 2 or 3. i feel like i've suddenly been slapped in the face and snapped out of my overinflated view of Crytek.

Oh please! So many drama queens; what did they fuck up? Did you expect them to reveal everything?

no one is being a drama queen. i'm talking from a business sense. everyone was watching today. just look at how it's blown up on:

http://trendsmap.com/

www.google.com/trends

Why? All you're doing is saying "sucks, barely better graphics than last gen". There's no rebuttal to someone who doesn't want to see the obvious improvements in tech.

yea and you're doing the exact opposite. we're both engaging in completely empty discussion here. i'm a casual FPS player. i don't think it is much improved, nor can i see any area where i think it is improved. want to point to some?

I'm somewhat confused over this Light Bar thing. Is it sold separately? Is it just specifically for Move, or are there features that will utilize the controller?

I'm working, can't watch the feed yet. The recap in the OP doesn't say, so...

1. Is it even confirmed the PS4 uses discs?
2. Was there nothing RE: used games / always online? Even a jab at the competition, or a "We at Sony are pro-consumer"? Anything?
3. Was there also nothing about paid or not paid online play?

Thanks to anyone who can answer in this fast-moving thread.

Bump this question

Didn't they say it was only your real name among people you were already friends with on 'social networks', aliases outside that?

Mind you, given the shitstorm when Blizz introduced RealID, I'm surprised there's not more negative mutterings about it.

You're kidding... you've got to be kidding. Have you even seen Crysis 3 max`d on PC? Lol.

Watchdog developer on the G4 Live Stream admitted that the game was shown running on a high end PC, which he felt "emulated" the PS4 capabilities well.

So much for running on actual PS4 hardware.

Not that it won't look just as well...but, at least the guy was being honest.

Which makes me wonder, why would you want to buy a PS4 if you already have a PS3 and a decent PC?

I'm curious to know what the RAM means for PC gaming. That's a lot more DDR5 than any single video card has now. If developers actually take advantage of it, are we going to be seeing lots of 4+ GB video cards coming out? Or do we expect that a lot of that RAM is going to be reserved for reducing load times and the like?

I loved whatever Media Molecule were doing, but no next gen move?

Other than that, no other games showed anything with the eye toy and I still don't get the need for the giant sensor bar on the controller.

I have a computer capable of maxing out crysis 3... the killzone demo definitely competes handily, and it's only pre-release ps4, imagine what we'll see in a few years.

They focused mainly on the hardware and games developers, it baffles me that some people hyped themselves up for anything more.

Great conference, I'm just shocked they didn't actually show the console.

Great conference but two things worry me, why didn't they say we support used games and that you can play games on a disc? Sony knows the rumors floating all around Microsoft why not stick it to them even more?

from the way they're pushing social and "recording your video" gameplay, i wouldn't be surprised if 2GB+ was reserved for the OS

Two big issues - Media Molecule's presentation looked like the biggest load of shit to someone who has no interest in pretending to bond with their child. God that was painful.

Killzone 4 looked great in the unplayable sections, looked like the same recycled garbage in the actual gameplay.

I have a question regard with no username situation?

What if i'm not interested to share my real name in public so can I opt to use my username?

Even if you can't, why that should be a problem? I used "Charles Lutwidge Dodgson" as my real name on Steam to get that badge thing and I also have some fake Facebook account with names like Johan Kepler and Immanuel Kant (the latter is pretty popular with Bulgarian people who would just randomly add him to their frien lists every now and then for unknown reasons). So you can just put something random in there and not bother with your real names.

But I believe they did mention something about traditional PSN user names being still available. I think most of this real name talk is for Facebook integration.

oh gawd imagine Elder Scrolls VI on the PS4!! It'll be glorious!

I hope they don't continue dumbing it down, I guess its permanently lost now. They won't go back once they've started down that path.

Yep, a good percentage of the total ram will have to be used to store video.

I think Sony did a good job talking about the feature set, selling it to gamers and laying out its vision. I just don't know if it's something I want.

I have many friends but none of them are gamers. The heavy push on social; sharing pictures and video and watching live streams is of no interest to me. None.

For me, it comes down to games and services. The third party games shown tonight did impress me, but Sony's games did not. And Sony talked very little about its services; just that it was in negotiations with media partners. I needed more than that tonight.

Does PS4 have a disc drive? That would be one sure fire way to get rid of used games if the system has no disc drive. My theory is that maybe only 1 SKU has a disc drive and the plan is to eventually phase out disc drives slowly.

That Gaikai stuff sounds really impresive. Did they mention if you will have to rebuy old games that you own with Gaikai? Curious how real world streaming quality will be, how will compression of streaming affect visual fidelity and latency in real world circumstances.

I really like the instant-on hibernation stuff although I expect that from next-gen and all the rumors we've heard. Got me thinking the 3GB hibernation mode built into Windows sounds like 3GB reserved on Durango.

The dual-camera Kinect-looking device is intriguing, I guess they will blow out details on it at E3. I'm surprised to see them still using Move controllers with PS4.

Overall I'd say the games themselves didn't look very interesting other than Watch Dogs. Killzone despite being technically impressive looked really bland. Witness looked insanely boring. Couldn't understand the gameplay at all in Witness. I wasn't really blown away by the graphics they demoed in anything, but I'd rather they show real stuff than fake demos. I know the system is capable of much more so kudos to Sony for actually showing real demos this time.

Reading reactions on Twitter I think Sony missed a big opportunity not showing the console. Normal consumers/media seem to be extremely confused/bored by this presentation. I didn't think it was so bad, but I think normal consumers were expecting something more like an Apple presentation with a lot of focus on the hardware design and specifics like price & release date.

The conference was much better than I thought it would be and actually got me pumped. Previously I was a wait and see on PS4, but am pretty excited by what I saw and heard.

They didnt even show the console. They didnt even mention that there will be physical game discs lol. What they did do was say in every possible way except outright confirming it that this thing is gonna require internet to work, which means those games are now leases. The whole presentation i was hoping they would prove me wrong but they are so integrated now with social features there is no way these games arent online drm. ALso Diablo 3, famous for always online drm making its debut i found amusing.

Also, SE go fuck yourselves for that incredibly lame ass tease.
Clearly the console is connected to your brain. That's why they didn't show it. The brain cyberization is going to be a bitch.

No one is this dumb.

The console has a blu ray drive, so it'll play games on a disc. Also, talking about used games policy wasn't going to happen at this event.
