They have been arrested for GBH and (assuming they are indeed the guilty individuals) you would have thought they would be tried for a section 18 GBH which carries a maximum sentence of life. If they got anything less than that it would be an outrage.

It was a type of drain cleaner from what I read elsewhere, some of the oven cleaner you can buy can be pretty caustic especially if you work in catering or cleaning and get a hold of the industrial stuff.

It would appear to be a revenge attack by the man on his wife. Looks like he hired some local thugs to throw acid on her, they bungled the attacked and hit the child instead. Not the first time we have seen something similar in Britain over the past few years, revenge attacks, honour killings and FGM seem to be increasing.
