Twin explosions targeting a large demonstration by members of Afghanistan's ethnic Hazara minority in the capital, Kabul, have killed at least 61 people and wounded 207 others, officials have said.

Mohammad Ismail Kawoosi, the health ministry spokesman, told the AFP news agency that the death toll from Saturday's blasts could rise further.

The attack was quickly claimed by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS), who have previously targeted the Hazara people.

"Two fighters from Islamic State detonated explosive belts at a gathering of Shi'ites in... the city of Kabul in Afghanistan," Amaq, an ISIL-linked website, said.

Did a search and found nothing. Seems the government put up containers to block the march, which stopped ambulances from reaching the victims.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
its really frustrating to read these headlines everyday. People are just killing each other for hatred and their fucked up ideology.

Oddly this was condemned by the Taliban, who spent years persecuting the Hazaras during their rule. The area they were protesting about is where the Taliban blew up the giant Buddhas.

Turf war? I'm pretty sure ISIS and the Taliban are enemies.

Both the Afghanistan Taliban and al-Qaeda changed their tactics years ago when they concluded that targeting Shiite Muslims was counterproductive to their goals.

Well, no one is going to illuminate buildings in the Afghani colours for this one the world over. What a world we live in. Just another day in the middle east, eh?
Sad how normal this has become, it'll just be another minor headline in western media.

As someone on my twitter feed noted, the interest in keeping up with the world conflicts with the interest in staying sane.

This is so sad; hope this gets more air time.

Does anyone know whether there is any difference between the Taliban and IS? Are they vying for power, or is it kind of whatever way the wind is blowing?

:( Man......

I hope this gets more attention from the rest of the world. But I doubt it will...

We're all in it together...It's ISIS against the world and not Muslims against the world.
