Coming Soon! has posted part of ant interview Entertainment Weekly did with Pierce Brosnan.

Pierce Brosnan tells Entertainment Weekly that he's done with the James Bond franchise, opening the door for possible replacements.

"That's it," says the now former 007, "I've said all I've got to say on the world of James Bond." He says that Die Another Day will be his last Bond film and he's not returning for a fifth movie. "Bond is another lifetime, behind me."

Sean Connery quit the James Bond franchise as well, before being lured back for bigger bucks by England-based Eon productions, which produces the 007 films. If this doesn't happen, the company will have to find another actor to fill the role for "James Bond 21," scheduled for a November 18, 2005 release.

I wonder who they will replace him with. Clive Owen I think would make a good Bond, although I'll miss Brosnan.

Shit, bring Connery back. That would be awesome.

I still think he should be the villan in a Bond film...

I like your thinking, how can i subscribe to your newsletter?

The rumor is that Orlando Bloom will be Bond. And that is a horrible.

I wish Brosnan the best of luck. He's been a great Bond in some horrible Bond movies, and I applaud him for saying enough is enough. I think he knew the franchise has been in a downspiral, but I'm glad he's not going to allow it to suck any more years out of him.

No matter who will replace him, the Bond movies will suck as long as the same people keep producing him. I think someone said an earlier thread that they wished the Bond movies could go just two flicks without using a giant laser and - wow! - I've got to agree. The giant laser and crazy plots are out of control.

The Bourne movies are much better flicks because even though they're fantasy and full of action, they're a lot more grounded.

The next Bond "freak" bad guy will be a dude who can walk through walls or control machines some how. I'm joking but I just know some comic book shit like that will actually end up in it.

i liked the ideo of tarantino making a bond movie. except he would put unnecessary funk and disco music playing along slow mo sequences, and there would be needless vulgarity and blood...basically i dont think tarantino could do the suave nature of bond movies justice.

They definitely need to change the format, the endless high budget action scenes are just so ineffective on the audience these days, the shock value has totally gone. The bourne supremacy has better chase scenes than any Bond film i can think of and all they had was a couple of clapped out old cars and a shaky cam.

Im not sure if younger 'Orlando Bloom' Bond is the way to go though, thats just replacing one kind of movie cheese with another. Id like to see a true spy story, with a real plot line rather than just a series of excuses to use new gadgets. Id also like to see the franchise taken in a darker direction, i was totally hooked to die another day when bond actually got caught at the beginning and got tortured and all the rest of it but ended up being exactly the same as all his other Bond films after about 30 minutes in.

I can't believe that they completely wasted Brosnan's talent on some really crappy scripts and directors (save for GoldenEye, of course). As much as I loved Timothy Dalton's portrayal of Bond (the most accurate to the books), I think that had they gotten Brosnan during the Remington Steele days, and made movies with him from 1987-present, the series would be vastly different. Maybe it wouldn't have gone in the crapper like it has.

Gavin Rossdale as Bond would be perfect.

I think he has the perfect blend of good looks and roughness as well as being English. Whether he can act or not we'll find out in Little Black Book, Game of Their Lives, and Constantine.

Stephani there could be a Bond Girl!

Pierce Brosnan IS Bond. It's too bad his awesome acting skills were wasted on such mediocre/crappy movies.

I stand by Tomorrow Never Dies as one of the top 5 Bond movies of all time.

Right alongside...

Spy Who Loved Me
Never Say Never Again
Goldfinger
From Russia with Love

My mind is going blank here. The guy who made Phone Booth. I think he could play a good Bond.

EDIT-Colin Ferrell.

And even i am moderately surprised
Bond has been shite for quite a long time now, they might as well go for something outrageously different, therefore :

Jarvis Cocker for the new bond, and make him gay.

I think Tarantino could mold his style perfectly with whatever the project needed. He's shown his versatility throughout his career, especially if you compare his most extreme films (Jackie Brown and Kill Bill of course). I think it would be interesting to see him try the typical "guns-but-no-blood" style of early Bond action and make the films about sexy, clever dialogue and character interaction (i.e. seductions by Bond, suave, insane presumptions by his enemies) again.

The fact that Brosnan has stepped away makes me worry, but I still PRAY that QT gets a shot at Casino Royale.

One of the names I heard as possible candidates was Cuba Gooding Jr. Dear god, if they picked him, Bond would be ruined. Black Bond would be cool, but they'd have to pick somebody who doesn't dance for the boss-man like Cuba.

LOL

It's too bad that Brosnan is gone. He was a great Bond, but the quality of the movies seemed to get worse with each release. And the people who make Bond seem like they'll stick with that formula until the end.

Maybe this is a chance for a Timothy Dalton comeback! ;) Or better yet, a Bond movie where Connery, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan are trying to show who is the real James Bond. Maybe the surprise ending, Flazenby beats them all!

It's a shame if it's true. I think Brosnan's Bond movies are actually some of the BEST Bond movies, actually. All of them are very good, imho.

And I like that they follow a basic formula for the Bond movies.. it's nice.. you can actually tell it's a series... although it was certainly changed around a bit for Die Another Day, but that was still a good movie anyways, soooo..

There is no such thing as unnecessary funk and disco.

FnordChan, who would love to see Tarantino take a crack at the franchise

Get the American Psycho/Batman guy. I'm sure he could fake the accent :)

Bale wouldn't be bad as a younger Bond. Plus the accent shouldn't be too hard--he's Australian so the jump wouldn't be as bad as it would be for an American.

This could also be a contract ploy by Brosnan. Trust me, he'll be back if the money is right, they always do.

That's possible too. Wasn't there similar talk before the last film?

In the end I wouldn't blame Bronsnan for feeling like it's time to move one. With the exception of Goldeneye, the Bond flicks have been lackluster. It's a damn shame because like many others in this thread, I don't think there is anybody else working in film today that can do a better job than Bronsnan.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
All those years of Remington Steele and people saying he'd be a natural for Bond(myself included), and all we get are 4 Bond movies? Disappointing...

Yes.

The last better-than-mediocre Bond movie was Goldeneye, and the last truly good Bond movie was For Your Eyes Only. The producers should let the franchise rest for a few years, and then come back with a solid, character-based screenplay (instead of coming up with the action sequences first and then writing a script to stitch them together). Then it won't matter who plays Bond in the end.

I can't envision Bloom as Bond. If he did get the role, he would have to hit the gym immediately. And even after bulking up, he would still have problems with his boyish face. He's just too out of left field for the part, especially coming after Brosnan.
