Colin Moriarty: SOCOM is Coming Back

Socom 1-3 were AAA tier. Had features multiplayer games even now sorely lack. Way ahead of it's time and was an incredible experience. The brand still has cache and they need a good multiplayer title.

Makes sense to give it a go.

Let's be real here, the infancy of multiplayer on console was in actuality the prime for PC. It's funny because while some were just getting it wet for the first time on socom the rest of us were busy pounding the likes of BF2, counter strike, ghost recon, planet side, raven shield, etc. Socom was a fun game, not competitive, not tactical, not realistic, just a fun third person game.

All the games you named, are not even competitive nor tactical for the most part.

I was young when it was out, like 10. No clue if it was big back then or holds up at all. But your post reminded me that AvP2 was my first online gaming experience. Fucking loved that game. Would love to replay the story again. Can't believe game is over 20 years old. Jesus

A remastered socom 1/2 and not that call of duty crap they pulled with 4 that killed the series!

Insomniac has been tweeting a lot about resistance for a while now soo…

And killzone just needs to go back to the controls and gameplay of part 2

I’ve wanted a new one or a socom 2 remake since rainbow six siege came out. If Siege can find that level of crazy success as a slower tactical shooter, then socom could too.

The reason socom 4 bombed was it launched literally during the 2-3 months PSN was ddosed so you couldn’t play it online at all. By then the new CoD etc came out and it never got a chance . The beta was a blast.

IMO launching it as a free to play , battle pass, focus on very hardcore competitive shooter would do well. In this day and age content creators would carry a game like that easily if done right .

Yup, half the games are at 80+ which means half of them are NOT. That still makes it middle tier.

As for shit games, I was referring to Playstation having little in the ways of exclusive first person shooters to choose from for an exciting revival and from what little there is I guess a 76 average would look good?? I mean if I was dying in a desert with little options even a muddy puddle would look drinkable wouldn't it?

I played lots of SOCOM, I'm saying the fan boy hype is what's ridiculous here.
the only thing you seem to play are metacritic scores. It's hard to have an opinion of your own I guess.

Its had some bad ones and good ones. Trying to average it and say thats that isnt gonna do anything.
Who knows who’s making it and how much effort they are putting on it. Plus most the PS studios have improved so much over the last 13 years.
actually, this would be fun to apply to any series/game
street fighter 2 is total trash, I averaged the arcade, snes, genesis, ps1, saturn, c64, amstrad, zx spectrum, master system, gameboy, chinese nes knock offs, amiga, and atari st games and the average rating was only a 56 on metacritic,

Socom is being developed by Guerilla Games as we speak. There is a lot of evidence, such as Rainbow 6 devs being hired and working in “unannounced project“ at Guerilla Games.

there was also a slant six developer who got hired at Guerilla. they worked on socom confrontation

get hype boys, you heard it here first

Not gonna lie, a third-person tactical shooter with a good BR or Tarkov mode with Sony 1st-party-level production values sounds absolutely awesome. Hope this is true.

Sick burn edge-lord. I had my say and I'm done wasting effort on any other replies.
Finally. No more clown that demands others to look up some approximate aggregate numbers on a website.

"hey guys, look the series has an average Metascore of X. Stop being excited for a new one. The series is trash, my Metacritic told me!"

you are such a meme.

I never saw him as that. Greg was the much bigger fanboy on Podcast Beyond. A lot of Sony fanboys went after Colin when he previewed the Order 1886 and said it wasn't good. He was also highly critical of Sony regarding Driveclub and No Man's Sky. Yes, he loves playing on PlayStation platforms, but he was never afraid of calling Sony out when he feels like they fucked up.

So your 'objectivity' claim rests on such easy targets like Driveclub, No man's Sky and Order 1886?

Wait, is this also confirmation that Resistance is coming back? Please, let this be true. Even if it's just a remaster of the original trilogy.

I never said he was objective. Everyone has their biases, but god-tier fanboy he is not. He also didn't like Ghost of Tsushima and thinks Rift Apart is overrated. Are those easy targets? Also, his criticism of NMS happened when it was first revealed and everyone lost their mind, including his own employer giving it the game of the show. On that week's podcast he said NMS would never deliver the scope it promised. This was still during the time when most people were euphoric over NMS.

Funny because SOCOM was inspired quite a bit by Counter-Strike and to say it wasn't competitive or tactical is a ridiculous statement.

Game modes like Breach, Extraction, and Escort were designed in a way where if you're not playing like a team you're guaranteed to lose. It's one of the rare communities where games were played more from a team perspective than just run and gun, although it did allow for that as well but in some of these game modes way less effective. Not to mention it wasn't respawn so you were punished severely for dying and having to wait 5 minutes for the round to end if it comes to a draw.

Clearly you haven't played the game or much of it to understand what made it great.

Not tactical? Ehhhh I beg to differ. But not competitive? I 100% disagree. Did you even play the game?
