Yep, seems it was a problem with the VPN as I switched to AWS and it works flawlessly now. Still playing the tutorial as I didn't have much time but I'm already enjoying it, can't wait to go online!

Statue guy is still a little too difficult for me. I bought 99 of the item that do 70 HP recovery so I'm gonna try and take it slow and steady. I'm level 62 at the moment. 235HP might try and level up once more before fighting him again.

On one attempt I got him down to yellow life but the last couple of times he's wiped me out in a few turns.

I may have underestimated this boss if you try to tackle him without almost any passives. If you need a reason to level, this is a good as any one.

But I think you could maybe beat him even now, if you figure out the math.

What is the low average damage he does to you? If it is less than the 70 HP your items can heal, you can increase your HP over one or more rounds, when you need to.

What is the highest damage he can dish out? You don't want to sink below that number.

What is the damage you can do with miracle sword and how much do you recover by using it? If you're low on HP you either use miracles sword or items, until you're safe again.

What is the most damage you can do with your strongest skill? Let's assume he has 1000 HP (I didn't look it up, just my guess from memory), how many rounds would it take to beat him if you could always attack full force? How many considering you have to heal a lot?

This should give you an idea how long the battle will last. If it is unreasonably long, by all means, get some more passives. Or better equipment, or both.

Aeana sent me here, what should I do!!?

I'm Kei in Dragon's Den for familiar user there
I just thought you'd like to talk with us since you've been playing so much!

What do you need help with?
It sounds more like he'd be more helpful for us than the other way around, since in the other thread he said he plays 5 characters in the game and has been playing for a long time.

I'm sorry I misinterpreted your post to mean 'what should I do with the game?' not 'what should I do with you guys?' Do what you will with us!

Me and my brother are online now in the game, still trial at the moment but will be grabbing the all-in-one edition soon. Loving the game so far, just about to enter the ogre town (Glen?) for the first time soon.

Have to see if we can get into that dragons den team soon.

Woah boy, I'm not having a good time with the dungeon in the cave
from the offline portion of the game.
The boos gauntlet element was difficult. I'm on the final guy (I think) at the moment, and I think I'm a little under powered for it. Just about level 63. Tried it again just now but my priest died and none of my other party members had the ability to resurrect him, poor planning on my part I guess. Looking forward to finishing up this part of the story and getting on with 2.1 etc.

so, i know the wii u and pc version a region locked. but is the 3DS version too?

If so, that is kind of strange. How should someone play on vacation?

But if it is not, I'll buy it!

Sorry if this has been answered like a bazillion times before .___.

Considering everything functions the same just on a different platform you would have to imagine it is region locked.

well, it is a portable. but okay, bad luck for me

I don't think it is region locked, however, you would need a pretty fast internet connection to make it playable. Folks who imported said that the game didn't even start-up in Europe and some parts of America.

4 of my pets have finally hit 100 Loyalty thanks to the the App. I can go and slowly raise them up now thanks to that, lol. Got Beastmaster/Tamer to 50 as well so I have real gear that I can use on it.

I unlocked Item Master and picked up a Wandering Armor to go with my Dragon Kid and Slime on the farm.

Yeah, the app is amazing for that. I have 13 monsters with Skyppai and only two had reached 100 loyalty. Now with the app more than half are at 100.

Sorina only has three monsters, two of which reached 10 fairly quickly. The third one is just a pet for the house. I actually used monsters a lot with her, before the level limit was lifted for hiring friends as support characters.

The halloween event is so cool. Really, really cool. Just love how each costume is its own class and everything. It took some tries for us to figure out what each class was good for, but we eventually beat the boss of the tower.

Can't wait for the next part of the quest.

I like this year's halloween event too. I think they're doing a good job at providing quests for the seasonal events that can be played by everyone together, regardless of their level.

BTW, thanks for the special lottery ticket, Aeana. I wanted to return some for last time already but you didn't seem to be up for hiring at the tavern. And apparently you aren't now either. Are you not registering or did you set it to only allow hiring by team members?

Please let me hire you so I can return some sp tickets.

The Halloween event is really fun. I dressed up as a little devil fella, the different abilities were neat and I had a party that worked out pretty well together. It's also a nice touch having to use the candies during battle to recover HP/MP. The healing spell was cool as we could alternate and keep everyone topped up within the area. Made short work of the enemies.

It's all very thematically consistent. There's also a cool filter over the screen in the Candy Land that makes everything look swirly. Nice touch, a fun time, glad I did it!

EDIT: Forgot to say that one thing I thought was lacking was a spooky version of the battle theme, would've been a nice touch, but might be hard to carry out in practice.

I finally got around to entering the present spells from the DQX Sports Festival that ran on Nico Nico on the 10th of October. There is a summary for it on the hiroba site that has all the spells. I noticed these have pretty short expiration dates (they all run out on 11/8/14) so better enter them now:

3 energy balls:
げんきだしていこう

Fortune deity coin:
ねらうぞさんあくま

Saphire pierce:
おしゃれをがんばろう

Dress up ticket for Dura the dwarf scientist's attire:
ドゥラがだいかつやく

Fortune slip box:
カモンちょうだいきち

Evil spirit trio, strong version card (you can down trade these in Rakkaran at the casino for weaker versions):
リベンジよろしくね

5 dorserins:
みんなでマラソンだ

1 super energy ball:
ちょうげんきだってさ

3 bingo tickets:
ビンゴだいすきでしょ

1 golden casino coin ticket (worth 1000 coins):
めざすぜじゅうたん

They can be entered here (you need to be logged in of course).

The second half of version 2.3 update also hits on 11/6, introducing the monster battle road, an 8th tomb at the pyramid, two new tamed monsters, a new strong version of a story boss, the metal ticket for the magic maze,* the Bashizoom Shop (travel to any zoom location even if you don't have the stone, only once per day and for a small fee), new housing and dragon mount customizations, more features for the player site, new distributed quests, one completely new and sequels for two already running series.

*Costs 220 hours of energy charge (the one normally used to acquire energy balls), you get perfect critical hit rate and can meet all kinds of metal slimes at once.

The Metal Maze is really awesome. I just wish it wasn't 220 hours worth of Genki energy, lol. I used one of the 3 I got for the email registration campaign and got my Paladin from 21 to 39 in one go with an Angel Hat and another Genkidama. My second one went to my 70 Martial Artist/Monk and got me two full levels. Pretty wild stuff.

Definitely gonna use my last free to get some levels in something for the passives or maybe to start put some real levels into another job i want to play.

How do I access The Metal Maze? Can you bring AI companions with you or does it work like the rando dungeos?

Shouta

Yeah, it's solo only. But you can easily get a lot of XP in there. Just make sure to bring an AOE weapon so you can nab all the metals. Angel Slime Hat and another genkidama will get you maximum XP too.

Dorothy in Rendore. Near the NPC you used to get the magic key to begin with.

Wow, that sounds like something worth doing. Will check it out tomorrow morning.

Hey, that was great, blew through a good ten-twenty levels this morning got some passives up. Good times!

So i hit 80 on Martial Artist and I need to get gear for it, lol. Any recommendations on what status guards I should get on my armor?

extralite

Dance and stumble for shoes. Prioritize dance at 100% and stumble at 90+. Very expensive, you might want to settle for only dance. HP or paralyze for helmet. Breath guard for top, paralyze or sleep (or blindness) for pants.

The Golden Dragon set doesn't have pants so you can mix it with various other lower equipment to cover several status afflictions, whatever you need at the time.

Shouta

Member
Cool, I'll try to get a set that covers all of those.

For claws. I know the Dragon King Claws are probably the best choice. Should I prioritize Attack or Critical?

Stumble and Dance guard shoes are so expensive lol. I might have to settle for Dance only at 100% or both at lower levels.

90% Dance guard for 90k, that might help me get a more proper set by saving a bit at the cost of the extra 10%

Shouta

Member
Ok, spent all my cash and got these.

Golden Dragon Headband with two 40% Paralyze Guard for 80% (I hope)
Golden Dragon Robe with -22% to Breath damage taken
Golden Dragon Bracelets: with 2.6% Critical Hit Increase
Crimson Mail Leggings with 75% Sleep Guard (60% and 15% after penalty)
Golden Dragon Shoes with 90% Dance Guard
Dragon King Claws with 2.4% Critical Hit Increase

took about 690k or basically all that I had left. I could've gotten better single pieces for more but I really need a full set more than anything. I haven't equipped it yet so I can resell but I think this should be good.

Shouta

I thought about that but Monk loses out in Raw attack power to every other class it seems. I figured getting Crit would be better in that case because crit hits deal full damage when they hit, heh.

Also, Crit was the only thing in my budget, they were the last things I got. =P

extralite

The martial artist has a high critical hit rate already so it's better to increase attack for the guaranteed damage. For the bracelet don't use MP rate might be better.

Btw, are you making good use of the ordeal gates? You can jump straight to them with the Powerful Warrior Book. Using an energy ball and clearing as many as possible in 30 minutes will raise any job at least one level (30000+ per battle), give you loads of gold and items you can sell for even more gold.

You can defeat any ordeal once per week. You can still join other players who haven't gone yet for the week. So basically, if you have a lot of friends you can grind super effectively and quick too using the ordeal gates, going several times per week. Best option outside the weekly hunt quest and metal king slimes.

Shouta

Member
I'll see about saving up for those then. I got both of the critical stuff for fairly cheap, sub-150k for both pieces although they seem to be worth more as I'm checking right now. Keeping both allows me to use both if necessary, heh. Plus, the "No MP used" gear seems to be reasonable for 7.5% but gets really pricey starting at 8.5%

I should see if Aeana can rig me a Parser to see how well raw attack does vs Crit, heh.

Martial Artist only has +4% off claw traits though. Where else would you get it on Martial Artist?

extralite

Member
The base critical hit rate depends on deftness, which is very high for martial artists. The exact base rate isn't transparent but martial artists do land more criticals with the exact same equipment and weapon passives as other jobs, for example compared to a thief. If you want to raise the rate, critical plus alchemy should be more effective than deftness alchemy but again, these aren't at all transparent.

It's not like don't use MP where the base value is 0 and you can only raise it with the one alchemy effect. You can have no critical boosts at all and still land them so it must be higher than 0. You also learn deftness and critical alchemy from the same recipe, indicating that they are related.

Martial artists don't have high MP cost for their techniques so don't use MP isn't as useful as for healers and magic users but in boss battles it can make a difference. On the other hand, criticals are the martial artists biggest asset, so going with the critical alchemy bracelet will benefit you in all situations. Also if you run out of MP because the standard attack actually has a higher rate than specials.

Shouta

Member
I figured Dexterity would affect critical rates. I just didn't know how much. Oh well, I'll save for the extra pieces in any case. Always nice to have situational gear. I'm gonna focus on attack and MP for my accessories too if possible, so that should alleviate it a bit.

I spent the last while mopping up some of the key emblem quests I missed from 1.0. I had done the bare minimum the first time through to finish the story up. Just finished the Pukoripo and Wedi castle stories. They do a really good job with facial expressions and cutscene direction in the game, emotions and situations are very readable and understandable.

Also, I liked the dog. More dogs would be nice.

Nice. I wonder what the conditions are to get the broom or Ann-Lucia's armor outfit. Hopefully we won't have to buy them from the shop.

Edit: I just read it on the official hiroba update news page, they're for sale on the DQX Shop. Doh.

Edit2: The Lemon Slime quiz is pretty cool though. Guess the correct monster by the special attack the slime uses on you.
