EA ends support of Battlefield 2042. Season 7 to be the last season

While we’ve enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to turn from the present to the future. What this ultimately means is that Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.

These last few years of live development have been good for the game, I've been a big fan since launch and put over 300 hours into it. Looking forward to what's next. The engine still looks incredible and I consistently get that "jaw drop" effect when I load into conquest and see the sheer scope of the game. Hopefully the team has grown from this one and is ready to put out something generational.

They had finally managed to turn it into a good game. The 128-player battles had become quite enjoyable. However, I've never been fond of the futuristic theme. I believe the new Battlefield game, set in a different era and crafted with the new vision formed after changes in the game's management team, will be successful, and I eagerly anticipate it.

Smh, I like the game and yeah some of the content was questionable but they didn't have to do the game this way.

They treated BFV way worse as support got cut off much earlier. BFV is the superior game by far, too. BF2042 isn't a bad game (now) and most people only remember the early days, the problem is the game strayed too far from a formula that fans enjoyed. I hope they keep 128 player maps though as they are good, especially after they fixed some of the maps.

It's not about how good it is, it's about how much money they can make in the future on it.

A good game will continue to make money. Just releasing more weapons alone and selling the game at a cheap price and they will more than pay off development fees. And I don't even mean brand new weapons, just update and implement more ones from previous titles and they are golden.. Even a night time version of existing maps would be huge. Active players were higher in October of 2023 than at launch... and even in the past few months it's shown growth (not peak numbers, but active growth). Game is legit fun now, despite not being what BF fans truly wanted.

Yeah I like 128p quite a bit honestly, it’s just the specialists most of all, I don’t HATE them but the more I play the more I question why they went that route. It just gets in the way of the teamwork that makes battlefield… battlefield. I would rather they weren’t there and we got the traditional class structure.

I just hope the next one is better in every way across the board. I recently went back to 2042 and I thought it felt a lot better than it did at launch.

What's the difference between heroes and classes?

Most importantly, limitation of weapons. Heroes have abilities but can use any weapon in the game. Classes were very limited and make you feel like a soldier, not some specialist/hero. It's even worse when your team is full the same heroes with the same voices... kills the immersion and teamwork suffers big time. Classes force team play or you lose.

Perfectly explained.

Like I said in the locked post. Yea this one got better as two years went on, but the player base fell so far off that console players were forced to play crossplay to even find a match, and the PC cheaters became too heavy, with them too scared to ban people because it would have destroyed the player base completely. Not all PC players on there are cheaters obviously, but still, even with mouse and keys, plus the increase in FR..there’s a distinct advantage. I would rather be able to find actual game lobbies without having to go full crossplay, and that requires a solid player base…BF2042 did not have that after a month.

I had some fun with it but was disappointed all around. They didn’t know what they wanted this game to be and ignored their space in the market plus the customers that made BF successful.

Took too long to get back on track for anyone to give a crap.

Good riddance,the worst Battlefield game.

But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit surprised, like where's the new one? Are they ending support on this before the new one is even out? That's an interesting strategy

Game had its moments but I rarely fire it up. There are some elements I like of it but I prefer bf3/4 and BF1.

I don't have any confidence in the next one.

Of all the issues 2042 had, support wasn't one of em.

I hope they carry over this idea of transparency with the development team over to the next BF.
In typical Battlefield fashion they kill support for it as soon as it's half decent.
lol maybe, well, its likely cause the next BF is in full development and they want all hands on deck. As much as I liked 2042, I'm ok with them moving on and think this game got a great amount of support.
Thx god. Focus on the new one. Hope it is a bf3 remake.

Likely. Also.....very unlikely on a BF3 remake lol I don't even think as many would care as many in here really believe lol It would need like a COD2019 level remake to get massive sales and I believe even stating "remake" could even hurt it, as in it might get less sales based on the preconceived notion that its just a "reskin" of the same game or something, not as many as you think would really give a fuck about that tbh.

Re-imagining maybe, spiritual remake...i don't know.
I got this on sale for £8 and have had a lot of fun shooting the bots with a few friends. We got about 40 hours out of it.

I hope EA/DICE learn from 2042 and give us more custom modes/Portal mode options, maybe a map editor.

True. I think there is a lot that is going to stay.

Portal of course, how they did the team feedback is likely to stay.

Anything else, I'm not really sure.

I played it a lot when they had the 24/7 Redacted map option. Not a fan of the nerfed drone in season 7. I wish they stopped at season 6.

Good game now though. I saw it for 8 dollars on a steam sale. Totally worth it.

I've been playing PC BF2042 since launch and yes, there was a cheater here and there but this game seemed way less affected than previous titles. Overall, cheaters were the least of my issues. As a long term BF player (since BF1942) I've also got my arse handed to me by consoles players, so it's not as unfair as it seems.

You so soon forget BF:Hardline?

Spoiler Alert guys. Battlefield is over. The final installment of the beloved franchise was Battlefield 4. It had a great run.

People said the same thing when BF4 launched..... This an endless cycle with Battlefield. The old games always garnish attention as being better. 2042 will not be looked down nearly as harshly as it is now in 10 years.

Meh
I own BF3, 4, 1, and 5, but I just feel like BF can't compete with COD anymore.

CoD never could and at this rate never will be the same full scale battle experience as BF. Both may be military focused 'arcade' shooters but they are completely different games catering to totally different play styles. Quite frankly, aside from the original CoD games up to MW4 the games kinda suck - but hey opinions and all that. I'd rather play broken day one 2042 over any remotely recent CoD game.

They put a lot of work into this game and it shows. It’s hard to believe they missed the mark so badly at launch, what is even crazier is how cocky they were in the pre release period.

Honestly today I think the game is really solid and fun. The maps added and the redo maps are all much better. Anyone who is a battlefield fan should boot it up to play a few rounds so they can see how far it’s come.

Also as terrible as the launch was I have to give props to EA and Dice for admitting their mistakes and taking the time to support the game for the last 2 1/2 to almost three years.

Hopefully lessons were learned as they prepare to launch the next installment next year.

It makes sense for you to meet less cheaters when you have way more players in the pool which are less likely to cheat. It wasn't as a great experience to play on console as a result tho.

Yeah same here, played since launch and is still my fav go to shooter on both PC and PS5. had its normal BF niggles for the first 6 months but honestly never anything that bothered me much, enjoyed all the seasons and have amassed enough points to get the latest battle pass free so that will do me. Looking forward to the next version and have been happy with the support they have given this game.
