Elon Musk’s X Now Officially Allows Porn After Update to Policies

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Elon Musk‘s X now officially allows NSFW content on the social network formerly known as Twitter — with some restrictions.

In a recent update to its official usage policies, X says, “You may share consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior, provided it’s properly labeled and not prominently displayed.”

“We believe that users should be able to create, distribute and consume material related to sexual themes as long as it is consensually produced and distributed,” X says in the update, which was spotted earlier by TechCrunch. “Sexual expression, whether visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression. We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires, and experiences, including those related to sexuality.”
That said, according to X’s Adult Content Policy, “We balance this freedom by restricting exposure to Adult Content for children or adult users who choose not to see it. We also prohibit content promoting exploitation, nonconsent, objectification, sexualization or harm to minors, and obscene behaviors. We also do not allow sharing Adult Content in highly visible places such as profile photos or banners.”

Important to note that even when it was still Twitter porn was never not allowed. It was also never explicitly allowed, so it was a shadow territory.

So I don't think this changes much.

They should however add a NSFW toggle like Reddit has asap.

I wonder what's going to change... there always was porn, russians getting blown up and people getting their heads chopped off..

A lot more rampant rule 34 porn under video game tweets, at the minimum.

We are in this strange place where Virginia/Texas and a few other states are being criticized for "Blocking Porn" when the reality is they set a rule that they should verify age then the websites decided to strike back at them by blocking access in those states which IMO is moronic. Age verification IMO is important but also not an easy thing to roll out.... but honestly.. twitter allowing it and verifying age while these sites are just cutting their user base in protest could very well be a huge move.

I thought Twitter always allowed porn related stuff? Or did that change a few years back? I don't really use Twitter much, but I remember back in the day there was a lot of sexy content to be had amongst sexy content creators.

They aren’t doing any sort of legal age verification. It’s literally just your age you set in your profile that is used.

its similar to the predicament with twitch, where they want the views and users of the hot tub streams but still want the advertising bucks. so they intentionally have a policy of ambiguity.

porn has always been on twitter you can use the dated search for before 2020 and find it easily. people here all of a sudden becoming prudes really expose their stupidity here.

You think they’re ”verifying your age”, but actually they’re creating a databank of what you like to get off to and sell it to third parties

There was already a bunch of porn on there, whats going to make this different?

It looks like they're now clarifying what is OK (such as no revenge porn), while prior it was a little vague as to what kinds of material was allowed.

I think you're missing the point.. porn on other sites is freely accessible, the sites themselves are blocking access due to a basic request of making one verify age before being able to view it..
Does not matter how ineffective the verification is, a huge platform is making it clear you can access porn.. while the other major sites won't let you access it if you live in a certain state.

It's the perfect storm in X's favor.

X’s method of blocking porn doesn’t satisfy those states laws. They require age verification with government issued ID’s.

I’m not sure what any of this has to do with those States.

Nothing has changed since X had porn before that was blocked for any account they set their age under 18, there is no “move” here, they added a blurb to their site rules is all they did.

Err, not to get too political but Texas is definitely trying to block porn. They want to become an independent Christian fifedom to Abbott. That's why they are trying to change all the laws to be more restrictive.

I lived there for 7 years, my wife is Texan, and my in-laws still live there. So glad we moved

Again - the blocks are being done by the companies in protest not by the state.. state is just trying to figure out a way to make it not easily accessible to children.
X will not be blocked in those states.

I feel like we just need an agreement for "Playboy" level nudity, not Hustler or Penthouse, to bring pornography back to a socially acceptable level.

And can we all agree the floppy wang needs to go? Either let it stand tall or hide it completely :p

X will be outside of the law either way if they don’t block porn in those states.

edit: by “blocking” I meant X blocking porn from minors, there method does not make their porn legal in those states, far from it, so unless they want to be in violation they will have to do something more about it

The law did not make them block porn... They chose to block in protest... All sites that decided to not protest are still open in those States.

I know what the law says, they have to do photo id verification as I mentioned earlier.

You are completely refusing to address the point. X is in violation of the law.

Guess what you have to do to not be in violation of the law? Block porn from minors lol

What is the State of Virginia going to do to X? which is not in the State of Virginia.
The law is ineffective even though it's well meaning.
Again.. the only sites BLOCKED are the ones in protest.. everyone else is just like.. fuck off with that shit and it's business as usual.

I don't care about porn on the site, I just find it annoying that it's in almost every single post as a reply even when the post is totally irrelevant.
